Chamber Opens New Doors The Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce welcomed over 100 business professionals and elected officials in celebration of the chamber’s purchase of the office building located at 1243 Golden Gate Drive in Papillion. Rennovations of this 1970s building took most of this past summer. The 4,880 square-foot building will allow the Sarpy Chamber to continue to add staff as membership grows. Extra space includes a second meeting room and offices that will allow local small businesses to set down roots for success. Continued inside on page 2

Open House Continued

Occupants of the additional office space include Boots & Suites Unlimited, Pitch Edison Home Loans, and Schmit Law Firm, LLC. Those businesses joined the Sarpy Chamber in celebrating the building’s ribbon cutting and open house on September 19th, as well as several special guest speakers. La Vista Mayor, Doug Kindig and Trenton Albers with the City of Papillion spoke to the commitment to the area the new building represents. Brian Mahlendorf with The Weitz Company shared his experience in overseeing the completion of this building project. Sarpy Chamber President, Karen Gibler, thanked Shadow Lake, the former location of the chamber’s office, for being a place of growth and Chairman of the Board, Eric Jones, spoke of the ways the new space will grow the chamber into the future. “This building is a legacy for the 2018 Sarpy Chamber membership,” said Gibler. “The success in programs and services offered have grown the membership which made all this possible.” Renovations may have taken one summer, but plans for building ownership have been in the works for much longer. The Sarpy Chamber spent the last 5 years saving with the long-term plan of purchasing a building as the goal of chamber president, Karen Gibler and the board of directors.

Sarpy Chamber members are encouraged to stop by anytime to visit the new offices at Golden Gate Drive. Inquiries about leasing additional office space can be sent to president@sarpychamber.org.

Special Thank You Moving into a new building is exciting but it is also a lot of work. The Sarpy Chamber’s new building would not be possible without the support of all our members, but there are some in particular the chamber would like to thank for their help. For everything from the process of purchasing the building to giving the windows a clean shine, Sarpy Chamber thanks these members for assistance in making the project come together so smoothly. 2018 Cookie Drop The Cookie Drop was designed as a way to thank every Sarpy Chamber member at their business, create meaningful and personal connections between members and Sarpy Chamber staff and volunteers, all while leaving a special treat behind for members to enjoy. It had been several years since the Sarpy Chamber held the Cookie Drop when the event was relaunched in 2017. Interest in volunteering for the Cookie Drop only grew and created an even larger volunteer force for this year’s campaign. One of the 46 volunteers for the 2018 Cookie Drop was Gitzy Loder, Solution Development Representative at Kidwell. “I love volunteering to help out my community,” said Loder, “I truly believe you get out of the Chamber what you put in and so I try to get involved as much as I can!” The unique blend of networking and fun was especially appealing to Loder. “This event is particularly fun because it mixes connecting, supporting local businesses, laughs and business all in one! Who doesn’t love getting goodies from friendly folks? It’s all about people!”

Blueprint for Economic Prosperity Nebraska Blueprint is a group of business and industry leaders who have come together with the common goal of providing a strategic plan that offers a clear path towards sustained economic prosperity for all in Nebraska. This diverse group of people represent interests from across the state and across industries that make up Nebraska’s economic life. Nebraska Blueprint is neither a government agency nor an academic institution even though it has origins in both. While Nebraska Blueprint works with any organization that affects the state’s success, the organization considers themselves beholden to just one group: The people of Nebraska. Lance Fritz, President and CEO of Union Pacific Corporation(Omaha) and Owen Palm, President and CEO of 21st Century Holdings were the business leaders who stepped up to the task of launching Blueprint Nebraska. Under their guidance, the organization has put together a Steering Committee, comprised of people with differing backgrounds from every corner of the state. The Steering Committee brings their unique perspectives on success in Nebraska together to create fresh ideas on how to achieve real, sustainable prosperity for all.

A total of16 Industry Councils have also been created and charged with representing their respective areas regarding their needs, opportunities, and growth potential. As the group’s work begins, Blueprint Nebraska is gathering feedback, opinions and ideas from a survey hosted at their website and visits to communities across the state. The large scope of Blueprint Nebraska’s outreach is by design. “Our success hinges on it being a statewide effort for competitive growth and prosperity,” said Jim Smith, Executive Director of Blueprint Nebraska, “We want to hear from people in terms of what they see as concerns or hurdles, what can be done to help and what needs to be prioritized.” The statewide visits are currently focused on introducing the concept of Blueprint Nebraska and asking for input. Blueprint Nebraska will be holding events in the area on October 4th at Tiburon Golf Club with the Sarpy Chamber, and Tuesday, October 16th at the Scott Conference Center in Omaha. To participate in Blueprint Nebraska’s survey or check to see when the group will be visiting other locations in Nebraska, visit Blueprint-Nebraska.org.
