HIGH POINT MARKET By Brad Cates We just finished up in High Point and definitely made a statement. Not only with our usual expansive slate of new products, but with a revamped business approach designed to solve the needs of weary retailers and designers on the hunt for inventory. As we have for decades, our company unveiled hundreds of new products right for the times. But this time, there was a twist: All the samples on display in our third-floor Commerce & Design building showroom are already in production with stock arriving in our Wilson, NC-warehouse daily—making them available immediately for purchase and shipment. Simply put, we decided not to wait around for a Market to decide to order more product. This is in an effort to help satisfy our customer’s needs during these challenging times. Instead, we increased production across our global supply chain, not only of our top-selling products, but everything brand new as well. The goal is to give customers full buying confidence, whether they were able to shop Market in person or are working from an office or studio in their home.

HIGH POINT A Closer Look
Dore 2 Drawer Chest 53396
¡ Building on our legacy and talent for mixing materials and proficiency with metals, Sarreid is introducing the Dore Collection in polished brass, with nail head trim and rich, antique brown leather for a show-stopping look in four different accent chest styles. The Vineyard Collection combines simple silhouettes and an ebonized finish on highlighted solid walnut with an intriguing inlay pattern in a series of tables for a variety of uses, whether dining, drinks, or display.

STYLE SPOTTING @ HIGH POINT MARKET
Gustave Sideboard 53271
Among the line extensions this season, watch for the head-turning geometry of Tribal, which pairs recycled wood in a wheat finish with iron accents in a rustic brass finish for real drama with an artisan vibe. Keep an eye out for new, on-trend finishes like Sage and Weathered Driftwood applied to solid pine for looks that feel as warm and recognizable as well-loved antiques yet are entirely new. Also, not to be missed: The undeniable panache and transitional style of the leather embossed Shagreen Buffet and its counterparts. Look for drawers lined with exquisite, hand-embossed papers, a Sarreid signature, and still another surprise. Hint: The gold trim outlining the design is actually leather, not metal and has to be seen (and touched) to be believed!

Q&A
with Mickey Sharpe
For this Fall 2020 High Point Market we leaned on renowned designer, Mickey Sharpe, to help design our showroom. Mickey is a designer based in Lexington, North Carolina, that focuses on interiors and architectural designs.
Q
What is your process to set a showroom and how do you make sense of that many products?
I've been a fan of Sarreid's for a number of years and began specifying it for projects almost fifteen years ago. I was drawn to the quality of craftsmanship, wood finishes, and classic designs. Since then, the dedication to quality has remained consistent, but it has become a much more eclectic line. That eclectic nature of products allowed me to create vignettes that could stand alone, if necessary, but also flowed naturally throughout the entire showroom. My ultimate goal was to create a welcoming experience the moment clients walked in, and establish obvious paths of interest that drew them to every corner of the space. I think we achieved that. I won't say it was easy, but I will say it was a fun and exciting challenge from the placement of the first piece to the last.
Q
What trends are you seeing this High Point Market?
That's a tough question to answer at this market, because there is nothing normal about it. So many showrooms aren't staffed, and I think new introductions were fewer than normal. That being said, I did notice these trends: Lots of warm colors - nutmegs, deep reds, gold tones, and earthy greens. Blues are still everywhere, but gray tones were not as predominant. Rattan, roping and grasses were definitely more visible in both furniture and lighting, as well as a lot of woven leathers. More round lines and softer edges in both seating and casegoods.

Which Sarreid products were your favorites?
This is another tough question, because I like so many products in the line, but my personal favorites are: I'm loving the coastal style and casual feel and soft white and gray finishes that have been introduced into the line. A Day In Sarreid History
October, 2020
The High Point Enterprise, October 1, 1969
In 1969, just two years after Sarreid Ltd was born, Alex Sarratt and Walter Reid, embarked on the High Point Furniture Market. As an importer of furniture and accessories from Spain, they decided to have offices located in Barcelona as well as Wilson, NC. The two alternated every two years between the two offices. When asked why Wilson, Alex Sarratt commented "we chose to locate in Wilson because it is close to Norfolk and because of its trucking facilities, tied to the Wilson tobacco market." Since launching more than a half century ago in the towns and provinces of Spain, the wanderlust and taste for adventure eventually led them to new opportunities allowing Sarreid Ltd to become a well-respected and successful furniture manufacturer while still maintaining their artisan roots.
