MAY

The library started the year off with a bang! The book fair ran this year during the month of October and revenues allowed us to purchase new books for the collection. A second fair was run this year in February, and despite the snow we were able to make additional purchases and give away LOTS of FREE books to kids!

There was a big push this year in the library to build student skills with inquiry based learning. For many of the projects students completed, there was a focus on selecting a topic of personal interest, developing strong research questions and then continuing to revise them as the research progressed.

Partnering with the 7th grade social studies classes, Ms. Nemeth and Mrs. Hahn and I helped students research topics connected with Ancient Greece and they then created an interactive digital museum with the information they found. Students learned to embed videos and games as well as how to use the databases to find what they needed. Report Developed by Sarah Scholl - SLMS for HDMS Middle School

Banned Books Week this year was celebrated by students and teachers alike as they showed off the banned book they were “caught” reading. Students got a chance to view some of the banned books on display and check them out to read as well as have their “mug shot” taken with the banned book of their choice.

In addition to the new carpet which was installed over the summer, we also were able to update our circulation desk and move it to a more central location in the middle of the library. Both the media specialist and technician are now easily accessible as resources to students and able to view the entire library space from one spot.
