love as a verb

The connections teachers, coaches, and staff members create with students (and each other) are the foundation of a St. Andrew's Episcopal School education. The four pillarsacademics, athletics, artists, and servants - are the framework of your student's experience. The foundation and framework help St. Andrew's form the finished project: a graduate equipped to go out into the world and accomplish great things.

The educational journey begins with a simple greeting and an acknowledgment of that person's humanity, which signals our faculty and staff's commitment to ensuring your students are prepared for life beyond our campus. I remain inspired and in awe of my colleagues and their work, for it is noble and great. I could share hundreds of stories with you that would illustrate my love for the school, and my story starts on Day 0, my finalist interview day.

The interview allows the Search Committee and other administrators to evaluate a prospective colleague. Additionally, the interview allows the prospective hire to evaluate a potential employer. From the time I parked my car on the Southwest Parkway campus at 8:00 a.m. to begin my interview to the last meeting of the day with the Search Committee that concluded at 5:30 p.m., I assure you, I have seen love as a verb. I hope you witness what I’ve experienced during my day-long visit: A community built on connection and care.

Our community is one of thoughtful and erudite educators who don't take ourselves too seriously, I wanted to be a member of this team. I observed what love looks like at St. Andrew's, and I have felt that feeling of love, admiration, and respect every time I have driven onto campus since I started here one short year ago. The work of our colleagues is not perfunctory; it's purposeful. I support the St. Andrew's Fund because I want all students and families to feel what I felt when I arrived on campus

on my interview day. Additionally, I support the St. Andrew's Fund because I believe in the necessary and majestic collective work of our colleagues to prepare the next generation.

Our work at St. Andrew's has been a love story, and supporting a school is easy when you do what you love and pour your heart into it.

a grateful board

Recognizing the impact that an independent school had on me, I always hoped to be able to give my children and other children the same opportunity and experience. It really does build foundations that prepare these girls and boys for a life of courage and developing into global citizens.

We chose St. Andrew’s because of its intentionality of all four pillars: academic, athletic, arts, and service.

On top of our gift to the annual fund which enables the school to fulfill all four pillars with

vigor, SAS also has partnered with a school our foundation founded in Tanzania, an amazing example of fulfilling the service pillar.

In addition, my dedication to service also led to a Board position, where I hope to support the already extraordinary mission and vision.

We are grateful to SAS for shaping these students to change the world for the good. We feel blessed to be a part of the community.

a community to cherish

Hindsight is always 20-20. When I first set foot as a new junior at the St. Andrew’s Upper School, I was nothing short of petrified. Transferring schools during junior year was not how I had envisioned events unfolding, yet there I stood, overwhelmed by unfamiliar faces buzzing with excitement. Though transitioning to a new school is daunting, when reflecting on the 2023-2024 academic year at St. Andrew’s, I can assert with unwavering certainty that my growth as both a student and an individual has been unparalleled in this environment.

From the very beginning, I was met with uninhibited kindness from the St. Andrew’s community, encompassing both students and faculty. Each encounter, whether in class or within my advisory, was marked by warm smiles and welcoming conversations. This supportive community ensured that I did not linger in the stereotypical new-student jitters, and before long, the school year had swept by in a whirlwind of shared experiences, laughter, and a profound sense of camaraderie.

At St. Andrew’s, I was constantly encouraged to delve into subjects I had never explored before. The extraordinary faculty were integral to my educational journey, consistently providing support for my inquiries and encouraging further investigation beyond the material learned during class. Within a single academic year, I ventured into realms like the calculus of statistics and abstract domains such as string theory, all under the guidance of the phenomenal St. Andrew’s faculty. Their daily commitment to pushing us to be our best selves, coupled with their compassion, facilitated a deeper understanding of my own capabilities.

Moreover, St. Andrew’s offers a rich array of extracurricular activities. I engaged in clubs that aligned with my interests and stepped out of my comfort zone to join others. Unexpectedly, a new passion emerged as I participated in Model United Nations and the Science Competitions

(L to R) Ava Hanners '25, Michelle Huang '25, Arden Seifert '25, and Georgia Papavassiliou '25

clubs. These experiences allowed me to express my passions and build numerous friendships. The weekly meetings, late-night preparations, and celebrations over regional and national accomplishments fostered an indescribable sense of belonging and fulfillment. Whether representing a country in a conference or engineering a functional garage door from scratch, these moments were enriched by the vibrant St. Andrew’s community.

The impact that St. Andrew’s has had on me in a single academic year is a testament to the school’s exceptional nature. The strength of its community and the goodwill of every member are irreplaceable and unmatched. Though my time here has been regrettably brief, St. Andrew’s will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Kathy and David Hughes

St. Andrew's Board of Trustees unanimously approved a 25-year comprehensive site plan for St. Andrew's, which outlines an incredible vision for both of our campuses. On the immediate horizon is the construction of our $32M Athletics Complex & Student Union, followed by the relocation of our Middle School to our Southwest Parkway Campus.

Our new Athletics Complex & Student Union, which must be built first in order to accommodate the Middle School move, will provide much-needed court and community space, bolstering our Athletics Pillar and boosting school pride and spirit. It will allow for additional programming and will be "home" for student life on campus.

Construction is underway, with $14M left to raise to complete this transformative facility. We are tremendously grateful to our pioneering Raise the Roof donors who are blazing the trail for this important project.

senior challenge CLASS OF 2024

This spring, the Class of 2024 transitioned from students to SAS Alumni. We wanted to ensure they remain able to connect with our wonderful St. Andrew's alumni community, and had three parts for them to complete for their Senior Challenge: 1) Updating their email address, joining our True Blue Alumni Network, and 3) Making a five-year deferred pledge. In the Class of 2024...

Once alumni leave St. Andrew's, there can be lots of mailing address changes, so having an updated, personal email address for alumni allows the school to stay in touch about alumni events, faculty updates, and more.

True Blue connects alumni with each other, through mentorship opportunities, a business directory, groups based around common interests, and jobs posted by fellow alumni, in addition to photo albums and event boards. It's a great way to stay connected to our cherished community.

The deferred pledge is one seniors make with the aim to fulfill in five years when the Class of '24 comes back for their first reunion. Gifts to the St. Andrew’s Fund support each and ever student and faculty member, and we are very grateful for gifts that make so much possible.

Total Donors: 42 Median Gift: $10

Total Pledged: $1,880 Average Gift: $45

ALUMNI GIVING BY DECADE

a driving force for good

On my first day of college, I had to introduce myself to the class. When giving a few details about where I’m from and my life before starting college, I mentioned that I was a lifer at St. Andrew’s. Having just graduated from the Upper School a few months prior, it was the first thing that came to my mind. To a room of people from all over the country, it may not have meant much, but to me, it felt like one of the biggest parts of my identity.

St. Andrew’s was my home for 12 years. It was the place where I learned how to read, how to make a bowl out of clay, how to have good sportsmanship, and how to serve others. It was also where I made some of the most meaningful relationships I still cherish today. Through the joys and the challenges, I knew I was seen at St. Andrew’s. My teachers cared about me and my peers, and they wanted us to succeed and go on to do great things in our world.

Knowing my teachers cared about me and supported me for so many years has had a big impact on my life. It has become a driving force in how I form meaningful connections with the students I have today.

Now, I feel so lucky to be able to work in the place that brought me so much joy and such great opportunity for so long. As a faculty member, it brings me immense pride and joy to witness all the hard work and dedication that go into providing a safe and loving place for students to grow and succeed.

I feel fortunate to be able to support St. Andrew’s in this season of change and growth, both as a faculty member and as an alum. I’m grateful for all those who join me in providing a place in which students can be scholars, athletes, artists, and servants for years to come—thank you!

All the best,

To quote Waco High School’s 1955 yearbook, the Daisy Chain, “Lucy Collins really gives it all she’s got,” and give all she’s got she did! Lucy lived a full and rich life filled with joy, passion, and service. She was a leader who led by example, encouragement, and with a great sense of fun. She made friends wherever she went, from Waco to The University of Texas to Tokyo to each and every church and school she served. Lucy devoted her boundless energy and enthusiasm to many endeavors, none more so than to the University of Texas, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, and most of all, her family.

What is The Bailey Society? The Bailey Society is a group of donors securing the future of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School by giving to the school in their wills, retirement beneficiary designations, or other planned giving instruments.

How do I become a member of The Bailey Society? You become a member of The Bailey Society upon notifying the school of your intention to make a gift in a will or other vehicle for planned giving by signing The Bailey Society Letter of Intent.

Is a planned gift to St. Andrew’s Episcopal School revocable? Yes, you can always change your will. Your Letter of Intent is not binding.

Do I have to give St. Andrew’s Episcopal School a copy of my will? We welcome the opportunity to retain a copy in our files, but it is not a requirement for membership in The Bailey Society.

What minimum amount can I designate? There is no minimum gift—St. Andrew’s Episcopal School appreciates and will accept designations of any amount.

How will I be recognized? The names of Bailey Society members are listed in the Annual Impact Report and on our website.

Have other questions about the Bailey Society? Contact Director of Annual Giving & Stewardship Beth Bailey at bbailey@sasaustin.org. Thank you for considering including St. Andrew's in your legacy planning!
