Welcome to 5Point In 2007, Julie Kennedy approached, long-time friend and outdoor industry guru, Yvon Chouinard and pitched him an idea for an adventure film festival built around the power of story. Her pitch hit home and here we are today, 10 years later—an institution in this small mountain community. 5Point is unique, 5Point is infectious, and 5Point makes you think about your life and how you are living it. For 10 years this community gathering has taught, inspired, and united us through the power of curated, soulful outdoor films, art, and performances. It continues to remind us of what is good in the world when it seems all too easy to forget. We believe that communities are made better when their people pursue adventure and intentionally live their own best story. We work to curate a weekend that embodies our five guiding principles—respect, commitment, humility, purpose, and balance—and reminds us that when we change, the whole world changes. Countless hours have been put into fine-tuning a program so that it encourages us to be kind to others, to respect the environment, and to get out and live our own best adventure—be it buying a new pair of sneakers for an extra spin around the block or summiting Mount Everest. A reminder that—adventure belongs to all. The 2017 5Point Film Festival brings with it lots of exciting new changes: the organization has new leadership, a new event venue in the middle of downtown Carbondale called the 5Point Confluence that will host free activities including five podcast storytelling segments and live music all weekend long, and an art exhibit hosted by The Launchpad. We recognize the power of community and where it has brought us. If it were not for an ambitious Julie Kennedy, an army of loyal volunteers and hard-working staff, sponsors, friends, partners, and filmmakers we would not be blowing out the candles on our 10-year cake. For you all, we are truly and deeply grateful. Here’s to the next ten years. The 5Point Crew

OUR MISSION W E BE L IE VE that communities are made better when their people pursue adventure and intentionally live their own best story.
AN D SO, O UR MISSIO N IS to ignite personal and communal adventure of all kinds through the experience of sharing meaningful stories.
W E E NV ISIO N
a national network of educated, engaged, and multigenerational communities inspired by story to take action in their individual and collective lives. The 5Point Film Festival is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit and proud member of 1% for the Planet.
OUR FIVE POINTS The 5Point Film Festival is built on five guiding principles: respect, commitment, humility, purpose, and balance. We believe these principles also form the foundation for individuals who lead lives of adventure. These shared values connect all of us who feel an elemental passion to explore and expand our boundaries.
RESPECT For each other, for the environment, for the experience, and for the knowledge we inherit from those who inspire and teach us.
COMMITMENT To overcome fear and give ourselves completely to the challenge at hand while leading a vital existence and never allowing ourselves to become complacent.
HUMILITY To summon the discipline to listen to our intuition and not our egos, always mindful of our place in the natural order.
PURPOSE To muster the motivation and conviction necessary to pursue our highest aspirations in the face of adversity.
BALANCE To maintain our focus and energy in life, in nature, and on the journeys we undertake while things we cannot control shift around us. 5

Lisa and her entire collection of 58 mountain top paintings will be on display to the public during the 2017 5Point Film Festival. This summer, she hopes to embark on an even greater task—climb and paint from the summit of every 14er in the continental United States. Restless and driven, Lisa seeks to combine her two passions: the ethereal beauty of art and the brilliant logic of engineering.

Kelsey’s mission as an artist and athlete is to play big and shine bright. Her work will also be featured at The Mountains are Calling exhibit at the Launchpad (p. 11). 9

This body of work is an invitation from our public lands. It is a call from home, a beckoning to return to the places that have defined us and our relationship to the land. It is a provocative love letter from the lands that have captured us as artists and the very essence of what it feels like to be pulled into a place again and again. It is a celebration of what lies beyond the daily landscape of our lives and what we unavoidably cannot live without. Opening Reception Friday April 21, 4:30-6:30pm Come meet the artists and enjoy a beverage on 5Point.

It is in the fold of those pages that his story is told—from adventures as an exploratory rock climber, activist, award-winning filmmaker, and author. EAT + DRINK Sierra Nevada started small, with a hand-built brewery and a vision for American craft beer. They helped change the beer world forever, and decades later they keep making some of the world’s most ambitious beers under tenacious standards for excellence. The Infinite Monkey Theorem uses predominantly grapes from the Western Slope of Colorado, and the results are top-notch, well-respected, and accessible wines produced in a 29,000 sq. ft urban winery located in the River North Art District of Denver. Bonfire Coffee is a local craft coffee roaster and cafe serving the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. They celebrate the attention to detail needed to extract optimal flavor in the coffee brewed and the food served. Serving up premium fruit-wood smoked meats and scratch sides, the Slow Groovin Food truck is sure to please. Traditional American BBQ with a Colorado twist. Offering favorites of Pulled Pork Tacos, Hillbilly Nachos and Marble Mac 'n' Cheese. The Beat is a small, locally owned restaurant joint specializing in the art of salad slinging, cocktail making, shake blending, and toast building. Most ingredients are organic, much of the produce is locally-sourced, and all they create is infused with love and passion.
