Camo has been a part of fashion for many years, always changing it’s aesthetic within different fashion houses. For Autumn 2017/18 we can see various pops of strong vibrant colours, embellishment, and also the print being digitally manipulated. Houses like Moschino and Balmain have embraced the strong role that this print has within menswear, but visually created a new trend which attracts a new wave of consumers.

FIG 4.

Celebrities are a big influence for the camo trend, especially within the hip-hop and pop scenes; allowing the trend to infiltrate the fast fashion industry and also allowing the younger generation to experiment with a new and creative trend.

Camo now isn’t just for the hidden purpose it was, it’s now used to stand out FIG 5.

The return of the 70’s suit is coming back a lot stronger and a lot more modern. Corduroys and rich velvet are the key fabrics that influence this trend. How is it interpreted today? Well, we see a different colour scheme consisting of vibrant, rich tones; this season differs from the original suit, with its relaxed silhouette, cigarette style trousers and detailed pockets on the jackets.

Tracksuits have become part of nearly all men’s wardrobes over the past few years. We used to see tracksuits as just a home comfort trend, but now it has been modernised to be worn on a day to day basis.

Prints, textures and graphics have been added, and instead of the plain colour scheme, vibrant and also unusual colours are a big theme within the future of tracksuits.

This VM trend explores the use of recycling and sustainable materials to create a natural inspired aesthetic. The category of this trend falls into artisinal and minimal, with soft colours which contrast well with large scale objects and architecture. Design matters supports imperfected materials and unusual shapes resulting in natural textures.

Nocturne visualises the ‘light that comes from darkness’ - WGSN. What are the influences? Mainly the twilight sky and space. WGSN states that Nocturne is where night becomes a place of activity, this is interpreted through bright neon lights which are overlayed creating a certain mood within a space and a mixture of textures and surfaces which construct distinctive dimensions and illusions.

Infusion mixes between maximalisim and minimalism and also a retro mood to the objects and lighting used. Geometric shapes and patterns are also infused to create textured surfaces, as well as using materials such as copper, brass, gliding metal and zinc for a more futuristic feel to the trend.

Dark wonder consists of dark botanical prints with a dream like effect to the materials. This trend also infuses both technology and fantasy, intensifying the natural colouring of the prints which challenges the mainstream perception of beauty.

We’ve all seen religion becoming a part of fashion trends through the years. For Autumn/Winter 17/18 a more artistic approach is added to this reoccurring trend. Jeremy Scott and Mochino’s recent collection is a fantastic example of how these fashion houses have manipulated original prints and created a completely different aesthetic.

Darkened Lace has been influenced by Gothic architecture and also the Victorian era. For this season we see the pattern being complimented by different structural shapes and also embellishment which adds a fantasy effect to the clothing.
