Breaking Through I believe every designer needs to be hardworking and struggle before designing successful work. I have acquired strong graphic design skills and processes over these two years, and throughout the portfolio, you can see my designs solutions and my process of exploration. Before completing each design work, communicating, organizing, resolving problems, and reflecting are necessary for graphic designers. Because of this, I can create more and more successful design works.

Shadow of Loneliness OBJECTIVE Design a magazine about a natural phenomenon of our choice. Our approach toward bringing this content to life should be conceptual. Think of the magazine as a limited-edition collector’s piece.
APPROACH Loneliness is a sensitive condition which makes me feel cold and sad. I chose the phenomenon because it was my first time to study aboard when I designed the magazine. I used black and white pictures, minimal layouts, and simple color to express loneliness and cold to the reader.

OBJECTIVE Design the conference materials for a hypothetical or actual design conference. All the deliverables must be consistent and convey the meaning of the conference.
APPROACH I chose the conference “HOW Design Live” to redesign the main visual. “HOW Design Live” is one of the largest annual gatherings of creative professionals in the world. A lot of attendees connect with each other, and they experience a truly global happening through the conference. Therefore, the link will be the project's concept. I employed a hexagon to be the main visual and used it to develop the series.

Say It Visually OBJECTIVE Design two experimental posters, one based on an abstract word, one based on a song. The posters should express the meaning of the word and song.
APPROACH For the first poster, I selected entropy. Entropy in Chinese means fire. Thus, I played with the Chinese word and separated it into two parts, and demonstrated Chinese style on this poster. For the music poster, the song that I chose is A Thousand Years, which is full of memory and endless love. I expressed the sad emotion with purple, pink and blue. I attempted to add some romantic elements to the title to express that the song is also a romantic song.

A THOUSAND YEARS Heart beats fast Colors and promises How to be brave How can I love when I'm afraid to fall But watching you stand alone All of my doubt, suddenly goes away somehow One step closer I have died everyday, waiting for you Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more Time stands still Beauty in all she is I will be brave I will not let anything, take away What's standing in front of me Every breath, every hour has come to this
One step closer One step closer I have died everyday, waiting for you Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more And all along I believed, I would find you Time has brought your heart to me, I have loved you for a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more

OBJECTIVE Redesign an annual report for a company in a field that we are interested in. The report must include charts, graphs, pictures, and tables of information.
APPROACH I selected Carter’s Inc. annual report to redesign. Carter’s emphasizes high-quality, friendly products, and uses blue as their main color, but I employed different colors to express neutral gender. Orange is the project’s spot color. The graphic elements used are the circle and the line, which connect with two keywords—bubble and friendly. I communicate that Car ter’s produces children's apparel through four icons (girl and boy’s clothes, and play clothes).

OBJECTIVE The Project is a large under taking of extensive research, writing, image gathering and design. The main source of research material is our own environment or habitat. We are recording things that we see, hear, and touch. APPROACH Pretend you’re standing in a church. What do you see? What do you feel? I see each scene as if I see several movies. I feel various emotions. People bring different moods to go to church. It’s my view; it’s my feeling; it’s our stories. I used colors inspired by stained glasses windows.

OBJECTIVE Design a smartphone application for a need that is seen through personal experience and try to meet user needs by user centered design.
APPROACH Because I’m busy with my work, it is hard to prepare meals every day. In addition, I want to eat healthy food, so I hope an application can resolve the problem for me. Fur thermore, I like to cook, but it is hard to prepare one-person meals, so if I can share the meals with other people, I think it benefits everyone.
