Joe has been a photographer for a bunch of years now. He learned his craft in the six years he spent in Europe. Living in Paris, Milan and London. Then spent a few more years in New York. Travelled the world working and now Joe reside in The City of Angels.
Ryan is a commercial photographer living in Pasadena, CA. When he’s not taking pictures or in the process of another creative endeavor, he’s most likely obsessing about hockey (his favorite sport) or Harley, his adopted cat (who’s really more like a dog). As often as he is able to, he turns his lens away from fashion models and commercial products and focuses on taking striking images of dogs in need of loving homes. One of his personal projects, “Adopt, Don’t Shop” is a series of glamorized portraits of such dogs that shows just how relatable, adoptable, and above all lovable these pups really are.
Brian Ziff, Romanian born and now Los Angeles based is a photographer, director and musician.
Born in Medina del Campo, Spain in 1971, Miguel Pietro Vallinas, advertising and industrial photographer, spends much of his time to his personal work in studying the landscape meaning the pure nature, cityscape, contemporary architecture, portraits, etc. In his photographs seeks to leave no room for improvisation by performing a preliminary study, the light and all those determinants. The technique is central to his work at the time of taking the pictures and in the later work of postproduction. Uses personal issues that arouse interest beyond mere contemplation and thereby intended to seek reflection on the other. We could say that his work is a search for beauty understood through his eyes.
“I love what I do, and do what I love.”
When not shooting he spends his days and nights staring at his cat Trouble gazing deep into her eyes wondering if she can see what he sees.

f you’re a regular reader of SATELLITE – and if you are, we thank you – then you know that our September – October issue is traditionally our pet and animal issue. Last year, we devoted Sep/Oct to pets, especially dogs and cats. This year, we decided to split the difference between woof and hoof, and broaden our horizons. The result is Fauna, one of our more unusual issues. Lion’s tigers and bear... well are just a few of our fury and feathered friends we have features in our September – October Fauna issue. In this special issue we have our usual fashion, culture and design feature, but with a focus on providing first class pet resources and articles of global interests. I hope you will be as wild about this issue as I am.

enech-Soler are an electropop band from Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire, England, that formed in 2006 and consisting four members: Ross Duffy, Ben Duffy, Daniel Fenech-Soler and Andrew Lindsay. The name Fenech-Soler is taken from Daniel Soler’s full surname, which is Maltese. The band’s sound has been compared to Friendly Fires and Delphic for their “hybrid of summery indie and big dance-inflected melodies” Fenech-Soler’s self-titled debut studio album was released in 2010 and included three singles. The single “Stop and Stare” was named by BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James as ‘Record of the Week’ and ‘Weekend Anthem’. and Dutch public broadcaster NOS used “Demons” as an anthem for their 2010-11 UEFA Champions League broadcasts. Both “Lies” and “Demons” were playlisted by Radio 1. The band recorded a Radio 1 Live Lounge session for Jo Whiley in February 2011. The band released their second album, Rituals, on 30 September 2013. The release of the album was announced following the announcement of a UK tour, which coincided with the release of the single “Magnetic” in March. The album’s second single, “Last Forever”, was released early in September prior to the album. In addition to their own work, they are also known for their remix work, including a remix of “Self Control” by Sunday Girl, “Kickstarts” by Example,”MY KZ, YR BF” by Everything Everything and “Hollywood” by Marina & The Diamonds. Fenech-Soler cowrote and featured on the Groove Armada track “Paper Romance”, taken from their latest album Black Light. Fenech-Soler have appeared on C4’s EVO Rooms, NME Takeover and BBC Switch.

Wich brings us to the tatest offering Rituals. Rituals can be divided into the two veins as mentioned above, Last Forever especially (lyric: ‘We can make this last forever, we can waste time together’) being syrupy enough to cause a sugar induced toothache, whilst the band’s experimentations succeed in songs such as Somebody and Fading, the former possessing a rather dirty, hollow sounding bass, whilst the latter slowly grows to quite epic proportions. This is the essence of the exotic merging with technology. The album itself is interspersed with the two interludes of Ritual I and Ritual II, acting as two halves of a whole, with both being ethereal sounding and laced with whimsical vocals, however it is Two Cities which stands out in its subtlety, rippling with almost sombre emotion, yearning for a lost love FenechSoler.co.uk

f you enjoy The Sartorialist, you will love cruising The Dogist, a street-style photoblog “dedicated to capturing the beauty of dogs.” Based in New York City, was created back in October with one snapshot of a Boxer on the streets of Vienna. But you could say The Dogist himself was created years ago, when photographer Elias Weiss Friedman was just a 10-yearold kid taking photos of his family’s two Labrador retrievers. The site features dapper four legged pups spotted throughout the city’s parks and bustling streets. Covering all variety of breeds, the clean portrait style allows each dog’s personality to shine through. The keys to his work are “expressive faces,” says Friedman. “Happy, sad, curious -- there’s something very honest about the way dogs photograph.” “My first mission statement was ‘All the breeds.’ Now it’s ‘All the dogs,’” he explained. “Every dog deserves recognition, and sometimes a compelling photograph can get a dog out of a shelter, or inspire people to appreciate their dogs more.” The Dogist is made possible by contributions from people who enjoy the series It’s entirely self-funded and is currently accepting donations. oo Jeans is a range of clothing designed by tigers and other animals. Huh? Yes, we’re not lying. Zoo Jeans, the maker say, are “the only jeans on earth designed by dangerous animals”. The denim materials have been wrapped around tires and rubber balls and then given to the animals to play with. They “roar, gnaw and claw at their toys,” as the organizers say! The materials are carefully reclaimed from the creatures and, complete with claw and bite marks, are made into the final jeans by a small factory in Okayama. There are three models, each with the scratches and bites of their respective “designers”: lions, Ussuri brown bears and Bengal tigers. You can then wear jeans that make you look like you have survived a battle with nature’s most fearsome beasts… and lived to tell the tale. An initiative by the zoo’s volunteer suppporters’ club, all the clothes will be displayed at Kamine Zoo in Hitachi City, Ibaraki Profits from the sales will be donated to the WWF and Kamine Zoo with the goal of reviving the local zoo. Damien Hirst returns to his ‘Natural History’ series with a gilded skeleton of a three-metre tall woolly mammoth, in a colossal steel and glass vitrine. The sculpture forms part of Hirst’s ‘Natural History’ series, which he began in the early 1990s, with work including the shark in formaldehyde, ‘The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living‘ (1991), and the bisected cow and calf, ‘Mother and Child (Divided). The unique piece was donated by the artist, to aid amfAR‘s work in the fight against AIDS. Hirst explained of the piece: “The mammoth comes from a time and place that we cannot ever fully understand. Despite its scientific reality, it has attained an almost mythical status and I wanted to play with these ideas of legend, history and science by gilding the skeleton and placing it within a monolithic gold tank. It’s such an absolute expression of mortality, but I’ve decorated it to the point where it’s become something else, I’ve pitched everything I can against death to create something more hopeful, it is Gone but not Forgotten.” DamienHirst.com

langkarussell is German for Sound Carousel even though they are an Austrian electronic dance music production group formed in 2011. The two members of the group are Tobias Rieser and Adrian Held. Their biggest hit to date is “Sonnentanz”, which reached the Top 10 in six countries. Before the duo formed, the name “Klangkarussell” referred exclusively to Rieser’s solo work. At the same time, Adrian Held produced electronic music under the artist name i herald, a partial anagram of his real name. In 2011, the two artists produced their first songs together under the name “Heldenklang” (German: “Hero Sound”). Soon after, they began using Rieser’s moniker Klangkarussell to refer to their ongoing collaboration. In June 2012 the duo released their debut single “Sonnentanz”. The song peaked at number 3 in Austria, number 3 in Belgium, number 170 in France, number 4 in Germany, number 1 in the Netherlands and number 3 in Switzerland. A new version of the song was released in the United Kingdom on 18 August 2013, featuring vocals from Will Heard. In 2014 they released their second single “Netzwerk (Falls Like Rain)”. Then they released their debut studio album Netzwerk, which includes all three of the singles. Their new single within a very short time seems to find significant ‘appeal ‘. The instrumental version was clicked on YouTube a long time ago about a million times and all eyes have since focused on the newly produced vocal track. Klang Karussell are leaving room for vocal brilliance on their new single that they already demonstrated impressively with the Sonnentanz collaboration (Sun Do not Shine) feat. Will Heard . “Netzwerk ( Falls Like Rain ) “ certainly contributes the same handwriting and ties seamlessly with the producer qualities. The single is an equally atmospherical , as well as danceable summer anthem that gives our rhythm a little extra forward momentum. Klangkarussell.com

Diana Beltran Herrera born in 1987, Colombia is a designer and artist that has been working over the
past years with paper as the primary medium in the production of her work. After graduating from her BA degree in industrial Design at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in 2010, Herrera realized that she wasn’t interested in pursuing a design practice as a life career, as she was more interested in the theories of understanding of nature and material as an element that exist around us and is present in an everyday routine. For Herrera, there is a considerable distance in the relationship between human and nature, and throughout her work, she aims to repair this relation by producing elements that are constantly removed, altered and forgotten. Her work is presented as a resistance where those sculptures remain in an ideal state and act like a model of representation of a reality that doesnt suffer any change. Trough her practice in sculpture, Herrera has is been representing corporality in movement trough her extensive work with birds. Herrera has exhibited in her no.

She has been cooperating with artists as well as organizations and private clients as 215mmcann, Olivari Olive Oil, Volevatch, Longwood gardens US, ENI, Marina Rinaldi, Lebeau- Courally, and many others. The interest that Herrera has in economic materials in general, is the potential of transformation that may occur with just the implementation of simple techniques and process based on repetition. Just as the patterns found in nature, her sculptures comprehends massive groups of elements that together compose a major complex system. She is currently living in Bristol, where she is studying a MA in Fine Arts at the UWE. (university of the west of England). Recent commissions includes a piece for the Festival of ideas (program developed by Bristol City Council), and an upcoming solo exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia supported by the Embassy of Colombia in Indonesia and Cancilleria de Colombia en el Exterior. MENS WEAR DOG
W
e found this husband and wife, Dave Fung & Yena Kim, with their stylish star, Bodhi, of the hugely popular blog Menswear Dog. We asked a few questions to find out more about this amazing trio. Satellite: How did this wonderful project get started? David & Yena: It all happened by chance one Saturday, we had some downtime so we decided to snap a quick photo of our dog Bodhi in some of Dave’s clothes. Inspired by Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, the photo came out surprisingly human-looking - there was just something that lit up when we shot him, so we decided to quickly build a tumblr page with a few more photos. The site went viral the next day and that’s how it all started. S: Who is Bodhi? D&Y: Bodhi is our handsome 5-year old Shiba Inu who models for a living. S: What are your backgrounds? Are they related to design?

D&Y: Dave is a Graphic Designer and Yena is a Fashion Designer/ Photographer so yes, we’re excited about all things design. S:How will you describe your Menswear Dog style? D&Y: Menswear Dog’s style is best described as Classic Heritage. The stuff that’s timeless and functional and let’s the dog do the speaking. S: What is your approach to your work? D&Y: At the end of the day, we’re dressing up our dog so we try to keep things light but that doesn’t mean we don’t spend hours curating, styling and editing to make sure our work looks great. We get carried away sometimes because we’re both really into fashion. S: What inspires you to keep going and how do you keep yourself motivated? D&Y: We quickly realized that we come out with our best work when we’re enjoying ourselves in the process. We try to work with people we love spending time with and we’ve managed to keep ourselves motivated by taking trips to issue

refresh our brains. It’s worked wonders so far. S: Any influences or anyone you look up to when it comes to your work? D&Y: We’re influenced by everyone and everything around us, especially in the city we live in. When we feel stuck, we walk out to the streets of NYC or go people watching. S: You have a Tunblr site now any plans for a e-commerce site for the fans of your work? D&Y: We’re working on a few projects to expand our website and we’re keen to spread more giggles around the globe. S: Describe yourselves in 5 words. D&Y: Dog CEO and two poopscoopers. S: Lastly, any words of advice for aspiring pet clothes designers? D&Y: Yes. It’s a dog’s world out there. Go forth! MenswearDog.tumblr.com no.

lizabeth “Elle” Wittelsbach is the founder of Strangest Angels Animal Rescue. She has always had a deep compassion for and connection to animals since she was a child. “I am honored to be an animal rescuer” says Elizabeth. She calls her rescue Strangest Angels because she rescues anything with a pulse and she will do it in my favorite dress. Although she will try and help all kinds of animals, in all kinds of situations, her main focus are the animals on the euthanasia list at animal shelters. Once animals hit the red list Elizabeth will do her best to pull as many as she can. “I believe my main purpose in this lifetime is to help animals in need and to educate people on how to be compassionate and humane to all animals.” “The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” -Albert Enistein Strangest Angels is the Saving Grace For Animals Without a Prayer StrangestAngels.org

ntellectually and visually stimulating, this book is much more than just a bunch of dog pictures. This exceptional book features the work of numerous famous photographers and artists (from Picasso to Man Ray, Ralph Gibson to Eric Fischl, Wolfgang Tillmans to David Salle, and of course Elliott Erwitt and William Wegman), as well as captivating essays on the presence of dogs in the history of photography and their relations with man. Spanning over 150 years, this book chronicles the life and times of man and dog. Taschen.com

tephen Creen-Armytage, author/ photographer of Abrams’ enchanting Dudley: The Litter Terrier that Could, has now produced a unique adult book, introducing the bizarre and beautiful world of exotic ornamental chickens. His startling pictures present an international selection of breeds ranging from the Bearded Silkie and the crested Polish to the majestic Phoenix, whose tail feathers can exceed 10 feet in length. Chickens of all sizes, shapes, and colors parade through these pages, as Green-Armytage captures the surprising and expressive personality of these amazing birds. For breeders, this will be a volume they must own; for everyone else, it will be a revelation, prized for the sheer enjoyment of the striking photographs and the extraordinary animals they portray. ne of the best at the art of wildlife photography presents a year of his work in an informative and visually remarkable diary. From January’s visit to India (and its magnificent tigers) to March’s Arctic journey (where a sleeping polar cub lies atop its mother) to December’s African safari (leopards, jackals, hyenas), each month includes valuable information on planning a trip, packing equipment, and taking the actual shot. Almost every page features breathtaking examples of the author’s pictures, and special boxed tips focus on shooting in lowlight, selecting film stock, capturing silhouettes, and more. Digital cameras, underwater photography, macro lenses, coping with weather and its effects, and producing scans: it’s all here, along with advice on photographing wildlife close to home. Amazon.com
