Welcome to the new frontier

Welcome to the April edition of Sativa Magazine. This month we are going to take a little peek at the business side of the industry. Who are the financiers? Which companies have already made it to the stock exchange? What options are available to the entrepreneur ready to get into this industry today? We want to help guide a movement and build the foundation of an industry — an industry that demonstrates to the general public that this is a business that can be regulated just like alcohol, wine or craft beer. That all business owners have a chance at success from the ground up. How, you ask? Included in this issue are stories about investors eager to hear about your business and ready to help you move forward. Do you need money to help your business reach new goals and higher levels of success? Do you need consultation, friends or business partners? This issue is for you.

play on the same field as many other business owners. The millionaires are here and the billionaires are waiting for the right time. The snowball is set in motion from the peak of the mountain. Can the government stop an avalanche in motion? There are trademarks and patents in place as you read this. States are approving medical research in their universities. Innovation and opportunity is abundant. What makes one company different than the other? The professionals operating it. A great idea. The financing behind it. A clear vision of where you are going. And a little bit of being in the right place at the right time. Stocks are hot, and I recommend doing your research. I cannot offer stock advice, but I can tell you that the industry is full of risk and reward. Get your plan ready and choose your partners wisely.

The industry needs professionals like you.

Welcome to the new frontier.

Hippies-turned-millionaires are changing the landscape of the next generation. We are a nation of capitalists. Set aside the medical benefits, which Sativa Magazine absolutely and completely supports. The future of the Cannabis and hemp industry depend on financial support and a professional environment in which all business owners that work in the industry possess equal rights and

BRIGHT SHINY OBJECTS  HIPPY KK

Product review: Green Candy Press

Rating: 5 nuggs We’re happy to once again have the opportunity to review another Green Candy Press publication, Cannabis Indica, The Essential Guide to the World’s Finest Marijuana Strains, Volume 3 by S.T. Oner. From here on out, I’ll refer to the title as Cannabis Indica Vol. 3 for short. Inside the covers of Cannabis Indica Vol. 3, readers will find 100 great indica strains from some of the world’s best breeders. Cannabis connoisseur S.T. Oner has compiled this ganga guide with great detail put into each strain listed. All 100 strains are accompanied by a full-page photo showing each strain in all its glory. To give you an example of what can be expected, I randomly thumbed to page 124, Maffy Gold. Beginning with information regarding the breeder, their origin, S.T. Oner then describes certain

SATIVAMAGAZINE.COM

characteristics specific to Maffy Gold and gives a great description of her buds as well as what she smells like. He then goes into detail about what type of buzz can be expected when consuming Maffy Gold as well as her medical benefits. Left center of every strain page, there is a highlighted box with the breeder’s name, genetics, potency and website(s). S.T. Oner states it best in his Preface: “These books are an indicator of just how far we’ve come, but they are also a stark reminder of how far we still need to go.” When he says, “these books,” Cannabis Indica Vol. 3 is one of five strain guides (three indica and two sativa). Cannabis consumers love variety and breeders search for the best mate to match their girls up to in order to produce specific traits in a Cannabis strain. In my opinion, Cannabis Indica Vol. 3 (or any

volume for that matter) would be a perfect resource for that search. This book should be in all dispensaries, head shops and on book shelves all around! We applaud Green Candy Press for their commitment to publishing books that are targeted to a quickly expanding audience of Cannabis consumers and educated ganjapreneurs. Visit the website of Green Candy Press for product availability and cost. Cannabis Indica Vol. 3 can be purchased in paperback at Amazon.com http://www. amazon.com/Cannabis-IndicaEssential-Marijuana-Strains/ dp/1937866254/ for $15.43 Green Candy Press: http://www. greencandypress.com/ Green Candy Press Facebook: ht tps ://w w w.fac eboo k.c o m/ I n d i c a B o o k ? ref =b r_ t f # !/ GreenCandyPress S

INCREDIBLE MEDIBLES  HIPPY KK

Hot ham and cheese roll-ups

Easter is quickly approaching, and chances are there’s gonna be some of that Easter ham left over. This month’s Incredible Medible is a quick and simple way to use some of that ham, while providing that mellow, euphoric feeling one can only get from medibles. Get your oven heated up, pull out the necessary ingredients and be sure you don’t have anything else to do after lunch besides enjoying the rest of your relaxing day — with the exception of a nap, that is.

2 In a medium bowl, stir baking mix, hash and milk with a large spoon to form thick dough. 3 Roll dough out onto a floured surface, using a floured rolling pin, roll dough out into a large rectangle about ¼-inch thick. 4 Top dough with ham and cheese. 5 Starting at one long end, tightly roll up the dough.

Yield: 8 servings

6 Using a sharp knife, cut dough into 8 equally sized pieces and place on baking sheet, cut side down. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.

Prep Time: 35 minutes

Serve immediately.

Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups baking mix 1.2 grams hash 3/4 cup milk 1/4 pound ham (about 6 thin slices) 1 cup grated cheddar cheese

I have a very picky eater at home who refuses to eat mustard. I, on the other hand, love it. So to all of you, who do as well, after rolling out dough, but before placing the ham on, feel free to spread on desired amount. This recipe provides 150 mg. THC per serving and I cannot go without saying my famous last words; DO NOT drive or operate machinery after consuming medibles. S

1 Assemble ingredients. Preheat oven to 375°F

An unexpected origin Patent number 6630507 is an existing patent that lists the use of certain cannabinoids found within the Cannabis sativa plant as useful in certain neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and HIV dementia. This research was funded and is owned by The Department of Health and Human Services, which has performed some of the most important non-biased research when it comes to the quality of life for a Cannabis consumer. Always being the pessimist, I try not to highlight any government agency too much, but their mission statement says a lot: “The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services is to help provide the building blocks that Americans need to live healthy, successful lives. We fulfill that mission every day by providing millions of children, families, and seniors with access to high-quality health care, by helping people find jobs and parents find affordable child care, by keeping the food on Americans’ shelves safe and infectious diseases at bay, and by pushing the boundaries of how we diagnose and treat disease.” The mission statement alone explains why a government agency would perform an unbiased scientific experiment whose conclusions mean everything that they teach kids about marijuana and the reasons people are in prison because of it is wrong. I believe patent number 6630507 is just a by-product of a government agency being efficient and I’m not sure which is more shocking — a government agency actually doing something good for the people — or a government agency being efficient.

Is government consistency an oxymoron? We’ve all seen the meme with Captain Picard’s hand extended with the heading “Why the Fuck?” followed by a witty and poignant

36

statement at the bottom. The one I’m thinking of in particular is with the witty statement: “Why does the government own patent #6630507 on Cannabis’s medical qualities and claim it has no medical qualities?” The meme itself is comical but raises a very valid question: how can one branch of the government (DEA) dismiss the fact that marijuana is healthier than man-made pharmaceuticals, supported by evidence produced through scientific research done by another government agency (HHS)? One branch is staffed by cops the other with scientists. Who are you supposed to believe? The Department of Health set out to discover which medical properties Cannabis has besides CBD; THC is categorized as a psychoactive drug, but does that mean it can’t be medicinal as well? No. What if I told you that the government knows that there’s a natural medicine out there that can be used for: “neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. Non-psychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses”? (Quoted directly from the U.S Patent office website). The statement I copied and pasted above could also be said like this: what if I told you there’s a natural plant out there that can act as medicine against brain disease and, by the way, it’s all natural and our government owns the patent on it?

6630507 screams either conspiracy or just plain ignorance. Some would argue the country is backwards, but by whose definition? There’s still a lot of ignorance predominant in this country, but Cannabis awareness movements and those providing good information are killing reefer madness.

As people become aware of patent number 6630507, they need to be aware that this isn’t something that just happened on October 7, 2003 when the patent was approved. The government patented it because of their discovery that it is possible to separate the cannabidiol in 1942. I reference this time because at one time scientists could openly experiment with and test Cannabis.

marijuana isn’t legal in 20 states simply because a lot of people like to get high, but because the truth is that it’s good medicine. Our body comes with cannabinoid receptors, which tells me our bodies are meant to have Vitamin C. Maybe it’s not for everyone, but it should be an option for anyone, which is the American way, isn’t it? We’ve come a long way from waiting in strange parking lots and living in fear, to seeing Cannabis available in retail stores, but we’ve still got a long way to go. Patent number 6630507 is a gateway to vindication for many and perhaps an eye opener for others. S

The definition of penny stocks can vary; some set the cut-off point at $3.00, while others consider only those stocks trading at less than $1.00 to be a penny stock. Penny stocks have also been known to be referred to as “microcap stock.”

As defined by INVESTOPEDIA, penny stocks are: “a stock that trades at a relatively low price and market capitalization, usually outside of the major market exchanges. These types of stocks are generally considered to be highly speculative and high risk because of their lack of liquidity, large bid-ask spreads, small capitalization and limited following and disclosure. Companies listed within are required to file current financial statements with the SEC, a banking or insurance regulator. There are no listing requirements, such as those found on the National Association of Securities Dealers Automation Quotation (NASDAQ) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), for a company to start trading on the OTCBB or Over-The-Counter Markets (OTCMKTS). makers who trade them. However, unlike the OTCBB, Pink Sheets aren’t registered with the SEC, and are not enforced by any listing requirements which cause them to be a bit more risky of an investment then OTCBB or OTCMKTS. Confused yet? Let me put it this way. Penny stocks are low-priced stocks, not normally traded on the NYSE or NASDAQ, but by Over-The-Counter Bulletin Board, or Pink Sheets. Penny stocks are considered risky investments because the stocks typically have wide bid-ask spreads. The companies might also lack liquidity, are thinly capitalized on, and have limited financial and market information available about them. But for

Wondering how to get in on these potential little money makers? The simple answer — just as you would any other stock — through a stockbroker. It’s just that easy. Penny stock can be purchased through a stockbroker regardless if it’s listed on a major exchange or not. If you’re in the market for a stockbroker, you might first try some of the big names such as Edward Jones or Raymond James. No matter what the investment, beware of scams. Since companies that are delinquent in submitting their filings to the SEC are still accessible to individuals, penny stock has proven to be a host for dishonest people. Be sure you do research on investment firms or individual before trusting them with your money. Regardless if it’s only pennies. DECRIMINALIZATION Profits, players, and potential

or LEGALIZATION? For many of us, memories of buying Cannabis are of engaging in a strictly illegal venture. Sure, it may not have felt as immoral as the body-politic made it out to be, but some degree of caution was inevitably put in place to avoid any interference from Johnny Law. Now, depending on where you live, purchasing a sack is no longer such a dangerous affair. Or better yet — for you lucky ducks in Colorado and Washington — a totally legal jaunt to the store. Times are certainly a-changin’, but for all levels of government, decriminalization and legalization each hold their own specific allures. While much of the debates between these two legal philosophies are weighed heavily on moral grounds, let us not forget that Cannabis remains a commodity and commodities make money. Regardless of the legal distinctions, Cannabis will inevitably be bought and sold in the massive quantities we’ve come expect in the U.S. of A.

In the beginning

Most of us can readily recall the traditional illegal business model: the producers, the local growers cultivating quality buds or

SATIVAMAGAZINE.COM

the economy-class brick variety that usually originated south of the border. In both of these instances, the growers would be paid by the distributors at wholesale prices and outside guidelines, taxes, license fees and the law. The distributors would then move the product through varying hierarchies of dealers until it reached the hands of the consumers. A simple setup that required little complication. Profit would go towards expansion of the business or be transformed into pseudo paychecks. Regardless of the income gained, profits were spent at the discretion of the individual, and would rarely benefit society as a whole.

A more civil society

As civil authorities work their way into the game, either of their own volition or through voter-mandated ballot initiatives, money from Cannabis can be diverted to loftier social ends. Naturally, many factors influence how this money is collected and redistributed, and in what amounts. Not least amongst these factors is whether state or local authorities choose decriminalization or legalization.

Decriminalization: Just to make sure we’re all on the same page, Cannabis decriminalization and legalization of Cannabis generate very different outcomes as they relate to civil administration and to the Cannabis users they govern. In practice, decriminalization varies depending on its local implementations, but generally makes possession of small amounts of Cannabis a non-arrestable offense. Being caught with small amounts of Cannabis will usually result in a civil infraction and an issued fine similar to a parking ticket. The amounts of acceptable Cannabis and the amounts of the fines vary widely depending on the local authority. Alternatively, many cities are directing law enforcement to simply ignore small amounts of marijuana instead of issuing an official citation, either through administrative directives or through local ballot initiatives. This approach is also a form of decriminalization and can recently be found in the birthplace of the Republican Party, Jackson, Mich., among a growing number of other jurisdictions. As for locales that use the most common form of decriminalization, civil infractions and fines, we can look to one of the originators of the practice, Ann Arbor, Mich. Beginning in 1972, Ann Arbor’s decriminalization journey quickly manifested to an ordinance that would punish the “possession, use, giving away, or selling” of Cannabis within city limits. The law remains largely unchanged, although the fine has increased from $5 to $25 for the first offence, $50 on the second, and $100 for subsequent infractions. In 2013, a total of $7,595.50 was brought in by the 15th District Court from civil infractions associated with Cannabis, including public safety and non-

44

APRIL 2014

compliance/late fees. The majority of this total, $6,325.50 was simply funneled back into the City of Ann Arbor General Fund and the remaining remitted to the State of Michigan. At first glance, the government revenue brought in from the decriminalized recreational Cannabis seems modest, even paltry. Still, for Ann Arbor and many other decriminalized locations, the legal philosophy toward Cannabis regulation is grounded not in revenue, but in prioritizing the direction of law enforcement in a way that exemplifies the community’s moral doctrine. And while this may not be as pressing for a place like Ann Arbor, many cities are implementing a decriminalization policy to rectify the longstanding racial disparities in drug arrests and convictions. This line of thinking was a major factor behind the recent decision of the City Council of the District of Columbia to decriminalize, whose arrests for Cannabis possession amongst the African-American population currently stand at an insanely disproportionate 91 percent. Legalization: Moving from decriminalization of recreational Cannabis to medical legalization, let’s stick with the Great Lakes State. Michigan’s medical scene remains in a state of legal limbo, so while on the ground this may be complicated, revenue for the program is still flowing into the State unabated. In 2013, Michigan’s Medical Marihuana Program brought in nearly $11 million in revenue, with $4 million of that covering program expenses. That left the state with a $7 million profit. Like many other states that have gone down the path of medical Cannabis, income from fees is meant to make the program self-sufficient and not be a burden on the taxpayer. As such, this $7 million is

With medical Cannabis programs, selfsufficiency seems to be the name of the game. Net gains are generally diverted into upgrading the services of the regulatory body or simply translated into lower fees down the road for patients and caregivers. Still, in Michigan and other states like it, sizable stockpiles of profit will most likely find their way into other budgets as the programs become streamlined.

In closing

Obviously, full legalization of Cannabis brings in the most money by taxing Cannabis sales. Like medical programs, fees from growers and sellers generally cover operational costs with taxation factoring as net revenue. Figures from Colorado for the month of January received quite a bit of buzz in the press, with the state bringing in $2.01 million. If this trend continues, Colorado can anticipate nearly $25 million in annual tax revenue from legalized Cannabis. Granted, this isn’t even one percent of the state’s $20 billion annual budget, but that’s still a sizable chunk of change that was previously nonexistent. So how does Colorado plan on spending this shiny new stack? Proposals have been called to use the money for public service advertisements, specifically, directed at children to stay off of drugs and adults to not drive while stoned. Time will tell however, on what Colorado actually diverts the

For the states and localities that are looking to move on from the decades of Cannabis prohibition, weighing the pros and cons of both decriminalization and legalization is a task that should be done sooner rather than later. After all, you never know when a ballot initiative might make the decision for you. Both approaches will carry administrative costs, though it’s been shown that these can easily be offset with fees, be it through licensing or infractions. Full legalization brings in the most revenue from taxation, though requires the most administration and oversight. Additionally, let’s not leave out the human cost of these decisions. For both the legalization and decriminalization of recreational Cannabis, each alleviates the constant threat of prosecution for millions of Americans. The concept of bringing in tax revenue for a commodity that people are going to use either way is simply a bonus. Regardless, the traction for legalization and decriminalization is rapidly gaining momentum across the nation, on the merit of both financial and moral stipulations. For many of these that are initially choosing the latter, it will merely be the training wheels for the former. S

o the words “Cannabis” and “opportunity” cause a chain reaction of goosebumps across your skin and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand at attention? When you imagine the exciting opportunities in the Cannabis and hemp industries, do you see yourself as a player? Would you like to play a part in the medical marijuana, recreational Cannabis and hemp industries? Before jumping in, it’s always a good idea to test the waters. There are a number of companies investing millions into projects currently listed on the open market. You can now buy stock in the Cannabis trade, without having to touch the plant. The market is exploding, and there are investors looking for creative minds with innovative ideas. Do you have a business plan? Do you have your elevator pitch ready? Most investors are looking for companies that have already established and have proven their ability to generate revenue. With the industry in a frenzy and investors placing bids on exciting opportunities in the market, creative opportunists are drooling over the market’s potential. Some exciting markets to watch include insurance for Cannabis-related businesses, testing facilities, consulting and branding, lending, payment solutions and software. I had originally planned on listing the top three investors to whom to pitch your idea, but during my research, I discovered quite a few others that may be of help to your future success in this industry. recreational, hemp products and ancillary products & services. A vibrant market will shine light on the potential of this amazing plant. The medical benefits are already undeniable, and the long list of consumables produced from hemp — with a reduced carbon footprint — are equally important. When it comes to recreational Cannabis, a small craft brewer model working beside large economies of scale sounds attractive. The craft beer business model is doing very well, working right alongside their large competitors. As we all know, the largest impediment to the growth of the Cannabis and hemp industry is the Federal government. As voters, we have the power to change that. We are quickly learning the truth about a plant that was demonized, and we now have an opportunity before us. Cannabis will be legalized and federal law will change. The question is when. Many investors have deep pockets and full confidence in the direction the industry is moving. The industry is still in its infancy and very soon billions in investment capital will flood the market, gambling on the big winner and spreading bets as if they were standing next to the roulette table. Currently, collectively, these financial investors are putting roughly one billion dollars into the industry right now. That number is rapidly growing. The investors are looking for genius, for innovation, for creative minds like yours to provide them with more tools to move the industry forward in a professional manner. Some of these investors or financers will ask for a controlling share in your company, some may want to buy you out, some will simply manage your company for a large return on

their investment and the ability to play a large role in guiding the company’s future. They are looking for safe bets in a high-risk market. Get out there and let the world know who you are. The Internet is filled with many unlocked doors to your future. You don’t have to start your own business to get involved in this industry; there are other options. There are many ways to enter the Cannabis and hemp industries. You can partner with an existing company and provide a large capital infusion; you could join a group of investors; you could start your own business; or you could invest in the stock market. The stock market already has many companies that are directly related to the Cannabis industry listed on the exchange. There are penny stocks and stocks on the open exchange. Be careful and do your research. Penny stock companies are often good companies to look into for buyouts, wherein you take full control of an already-working model. Or failing model that you plan to turn around. Or it may possibly be the investment that pays for your early retirement. A penny stock is any stock trading under $5.00. A look back at our fave gems from the past year of Business Highdeas. Foreward by Michael Freedom Carter SATIVAMAGAZINE.COM

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

I have to admit I am cursed. I sleep with a pad of paper, a flashlight and a pen. Just in case. A great idea could come at any moment. I’m ready! I keep a pen and paper in my pocket when I leave the house or office for the same reason. My mind never shuts off. So I share my ideas with you. Every month KK and I put our minds together to provide you with a taste of the possibilities and potential in this dynamic market. We want to see you succeed, and all of us at Sativa Magazine want to help. At night, when I dream, I often wake up as many do, feeling like I am still in the dream. That it was so real, you can taste the turkey, or smell the pumpkin pie from the dream as you awaken. I dream of business ideas and marketing plans. As I dream, I smell fresh paper, ink from pens and I can hear the rapid tap of keyboards as they write the future. Cannabis helps me focus and play around in my own head a little more visually with more creative concepts. I believe I see things that many people have been taught to close their eyes to. My eyes are wide open. With investment comes risk, especially in this market. However, with risk comes the possibility of reward. Business Highdeas was intended to inspire minds and provoke creative innovations in a market that has only begun to bear fruit — a jumping-off point for anyone with a passion to make their mark in the new landscape. And also for those who have already jumped into the market as a catalyst for them to build and evolve their brands. Those that have built

a strong standing in the market and established their brand positions will come out as the winners when this bubble pops. A bubble? Yes, indeed. Most assuredly we are in a bubble. You will have many competitors. How will you differentiate your market position? Every month we will provide you with two or three ideas to consider. We provide a list of web addresses that are available to purchase on the open market. All listed web addresses were available when this issue was published. Research your state laws if you consider any idea we provide. Not all states will allow every one of these business ideas to legally operate under their state guidelines. Business Highdeas is a core piece of Sativa Magazine. I believe that a strong Cannabis industry, which includes hemp and all ancillary products involved, will be what keeps the ferderal government on the same side as Cannabis supporters. We all believe in an economy that provides fair wages and puts food on our family tables. For most business owners, that’s all they want. A fair chance to make a living at something for which they possess skill and passion. Please read through our Business Highdeas and imagine the steps you are about to take to change the world. The environment of opportunity is thick with potential and flooding with million-dollar investors. What are you going to do?

Hemp tubing for temporary/portable shelters Temporary shelters are just that — temporary. Imagine a product that could allow short-term shelters to be long-term or semi-permanent. Hemp tubes, like their cardboard counterparts, would be a strong building material that could easily be waterproofed and fireproofed, as well as being reusable, recyclable and available in several sizes. Natural disasters are often unpredictable and unannounced, leaving thousands of people without shelter for long periods of time. Hemp tubing could be used to make temporary housing or even portable homeless shelters. Using crates to construct the foundation, the larger diameter hemp tubes could be used to complete the structure of the building. Although wooden joints would normally be used, hempcomposite joints would be even better for hemp-tubing structures. Shelters made of larger hemp tubes are best used for long-term or semipermanent structures. Once the lost structure has been rebuilt, the hemp tubing can easily be disassembled, reused, or recycled if necessary, leaving no industrial waste. Following many natural disasters, many people are forced to turn to homeless and/or emergency shelters. These shelters offer cots to sleep on but little to no privacy, and are often limited to a single level. Smaller diameter hemp tubes could be used to build partitions, similar to a tinkertoy-like structure, then draped with some type of privacy cloth, preferably hemp canvas. This allows the facility to continue to offer just as many beds to those in need but with some privacy as well. Displaced survivors suffer mentally and physically; privacy can offer a much-needed sense of personal space to assist with the healing process. A hundred million people in the world are

homeless. Portable individual shelters can be built outside with as few as six of the small diameter hemp tubes, two corner connectors, some rope and a tarp (all preferably made of hemp). Assembled like a tent, they provide displaced people a temporary shelter providing protection from the outdoor elements that can easily be taken down, moved and put back up as needed. Hemp skyscrapers We have to start thinking in new ways regarding skyscrapers. A skyscraper by definition is a structure that is ten or more stories high. Statistics show that buildings made of steel and concrete contribute up to 47 percent of the world’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, also known as greenhouse gases. Hemp is one of two building materials grown by the sun that gives off oxygen and stores CO2. When hemp dies, it’s given back to Mother Nature, recycled. It’s time to steer away from steel and allow Mother Nature to grow our buildings. A skyscraper built from hemp would have the amazing capacity to store carbon and provide us with carbon sequestration. One cubic yard of hemp will store over 2,200 pounds of CO2. Build big with hemp. By reducing the amount of steel and concrete used and building with what the earth

provides, laminated hemp panels can be a game-changing alternative that can play a significant role in reducing the ridiculously high greenhouse gas levels associated with steel and concrete. Using small pieces of hemp glued together to make enormous eight-foot-wide by 64-foot-long panels of various thicknesses, the world could see its first 30-story hemp skyscraper sooner than expected and will change the scale perception of what hemp can build. By building a flexible system utilizing laminated hemp panels, which the builder can erect in six-story sections at a time can allow architects and engineers to safely build in any part of the world, even in high-seismic zones. The design flexibility of using these panels allows for different styles of buildings. Laminated hemp panels are as safe as steel and concrete, and play no part in deforestation. Leave the trees to the forest. We are poised at the precipice of a revolution in the way we build and this is the first new way to build a skyscraper proposed in over 100 years. Non-profit lobbyist group Do you want to make a difference in the Cannabis industry and at the same time create jobs? Every industry needs an advocate with

a strong voice to lobby for its rights. If that is your passion, then starting a non-profit lobbyist group or NPLG might just be your niche. With a clear objective and a well-developed business plan to present to potential contributors, your group could be well on its way to making a difference. Since an NPLG is simply another form of a business, you’ll need to develop a solid business plan and guide the execution through implementation. A business plan is essential for procuring non-profit funding from donors and the government, and is a great tool to help recruit volunteers. You will need to establish board members and incorporate your organization. You’ll also need to understand how to structure your non-profit, what tax exemptions you may qualify for, as well as how

to obtain government grants. Advising, informing and encouraging changes in legislation by maintaining a professional and well-organized presence within the media, individual state capitols and the nation’s Capitol, are key factors to securing a future for the Cannabis industry. Advocating for people who share the same viewpoints is imperative when it comes to making a difference. Lobbying is a regulated industry and a protected activity under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that guarantees rights to free speech, assembly, and petition. There are two forms of lobbying. Direct lobbying is communicating directly with a legislator, or any covered executive branch of or other government employee by meeting with them in person, by phone or corresponding with them in order to influence their vote. Grassroots lobbying is when everyday citizens contact their own legislators to try to influence legislation and policy. Either works as effectively and is just as important as the other. If you seem to find yourself wondering if there is something more you could do to make a difference in the Cannabis industry, form a non-profit lobbyist group, and lobby for policy change. App for non-profit company for activism and education Everywhere you look, there’s an app for this and an app for that. With the touch of a finger, anyone pro-Cannabis could have a wide range of information readily available to them. Creating an app for a non-profit company to use to encourage activism or to educate potential activists could prove to be invaluable for many non-profits. Of course you’d have to follow the same procedures when forming the non-profit app as you would for any other non-profit company. Not only will you need to create a business plan, form a board of directors, incorporate the organization and recruit volunteers, but you must also be certain that in order to receive government grants for the education part of your non-profit organization, you must meet certain standards for the type of grants that will ultimately help you with your organization’s goals. Advocating and education are imperative for non-profits. Without education on Cannabis reform, facts can be hard to come by; without advocates, support may dwindle. Together, the two go hand-in-hand, providing the world with vital knowledge and igniting the passion that paves the way to reformation of current laws. The app should be rich in educational resources and facts regarding Cannabis, to teach those that might be newcomers to Cannabis reform. It should also provide reliable information on what they can do to make a difference, as well as links to current events, such as individual state medical legalization laws, state legalization, house and state bills that have been introduced and where to lobby. It would be ideal if while on vacation, one could type in the visiting state and find out if there might be a rally at that state’s capital that would benefit

Cannabis tissue bank Acapulco Gold immediately comes to mind when thinking of a Cannabis tissue bank. In 1975, the Government of Mexico began an aerial spraying program to destroy Cannabis fields with paraquat, a poisonous herbicide, bringing Acapulco Gold to near extinction. Luckily, that wasn’t successful, but it was a close call indeed. As dreadful as it may have been, had they succeeded, a Cannabis tissue bank could have been a savior by resurrecting Acapulco Gold after the Mexican government’s attempt at abolishing the historic strain.

Without using all the scientific and technical terms, but making it as simple to understand as possible, a Cannabis tissue bank would hold samples of your Cannabis strain for later use by using a technique that keeps the tissue alive and growing. These samples are what’s called, undifferentiated cell tissue, or in layman’s terms, a cell that has yet to acquire a special structure and function. You don’t need a whole plant to regenerate your Cannabis strain. A single cell will do. By taking the cell and placing it in a tumbler that contains a culture medium of chemicals, hormones and agar, the sample is then placed on a shaker table. This process will keep the tissue sample alive and growing. Note: this is only a few steps of the process, but you get the gist of it. Rapid multiplication means that as the tissue continues to grow, it will become necessary to divide the original, now-grown tissue sample and repeat the process for as long as necessary. What might have started off as one Cannabis tissue sample, over time will easily climb into higher quantities. This entire procedure must be done in a completely sterile environment. Other benefits in having a Cannabis tissue bank: if your seeds are no longer available or aren’t germinating, if the plants are infected or diseased, it’s possible to produce new plants

without infection or disease, and restore a strain to its original genetics. Samples can be moved without the fear of pests and diseases, mass-mass produce. Best of all, because these are only tissue samples, it’s completely legal! With permission of the sample owner, tissue samples could be sold to others, making all those tiny pieces of tissue very profitable to the sample owner. Most importantly, be prepared for the unthinkable, keep your strain alive at a Cannabis tissue bank. Clone library delivery service Special ordered clones — who’s heard of such a thing? Much like a seed bank, a clone library would offer the cultivator clones of any species and strain. They will even go one step further by offering delivery service right to the ganjapreneur’s front door. Say you want seven clones of a specific strain but don’t know anyone from whom to obtain cuttings, and there are no seeds available. A quick phone call to the local clone library would solve that dilemma, as they have clones of just about every strain a cultivator could dream of — in fact, it’s a grower’s haven! Offering a full line of strains to choose from, the clone library guarantees that upon receiving your order, the clone is free of disease and pests when signed for. With rows upon rows and shelves upon shelves full of various

strains to choose from, most likely the strain you’re looking for can easily be acquired through the clone library. Special requests could be taken as well. For instance, if there is a certain height the cultivator would like to receive their clones at, such as 12–16-inches, or maybe one would rather have four-week old clones rather than 10-day to 2-week-old clones in order to obtain a little more stability; the clone library can do that! Advertise on and insure your delivery vehicles accordingly as well as have all delivery personnel dressed in a company uniform and be professional at all times. Build a reputation that will make your cannabusiness stand out. As with every other type of grow facility, it is highly recommended that all mother plants be kept separated and secluded, away from all other plants. Clones are a touchy subject in many states that have passed medical legalization, so it’s imperative to know the legal status of clones under the appropriate state MMJ guidelines. Are they allowed or aren’t they? According to your state, are they considered a Cannabis plant once they have developed roots? And if so, are they considered to be one of the plants allotted that a caregiver is allowed to grow or are clones excluded from this number but in addition to? Please don’t just assume that clones are allowed to be possessed, check the state laws and if there is no wording for clones included or if it’s questionable, take whatever steps may be necessary to get this important information revised and clarified so it’s better understood in the appropriate states’ MMJ laws. It’s reasonable to believe that these two cannabusinesses could be partnered-up. Think about it: if clones were needed from a tissue

sample that had previously been dropped off at the Cannabis tissue bank for safe keeping, a quick phone call or trip down to the local Cannabis tissue bank could easily bring back to life what was thought to have been lost. The Cannabis tissue bank could then hand over tissue samples of the strain to the clone library, which would then grow the clones out for you. Once specifications have been reached, the clone library would hand deliver them to your door.

There would be absolutely no information stored on a smart phone, the entire process would start over every election year to ensure security. With all of these security measures in place, it is very feasible that the government’s IT department could ensure privacy and security of each and every registered voter.

Depending on what paper was read or news channel watched, it was estimated that 90–95 million people — that’s almost half of the American population who is registered to vote — did not vote in the presidential election year of 2012. According to a USA Today poll that was published Aug. 2012, many reasons were given for choosing not to vote. These excuses ranged from: not having time, illness, to simply not caring who wins the election. The presidential election in 2008 had 10 million more votes than in 2012. A voters’ app could have significantly lowered those numbers, especially for those that were simply too busy or unable to venture out to a poll site because they were sick. Had the app been in their hand, they’d have been able to cast their votes. Their voices would have been heard, all from the palm of their hand!

Voting App Over the past several years, the popularity of smart phones has skyrocketed. There seems to be an app for just about everything imaginable. But what about voting — shouldn’t there be an app for that too? With careful implementation of security features such as facial and/or voice recognition software, a signature pad or fingerprint scanner could all be verified by entering a personal PIN that the registered voter must supply at time of registration. The votes could constantly be entered, and on a set schedule, transferred from one secure server to another where all votes would go through recognition programs and filters, counted, confirmed and voters’ rights verified. Making every vote count and keeping the system in balance. All these checks and balances would ensure voter privacy, and ease anyone’s mind about who might allow someone else to use the app on
