2011 January - 2012 August Design, Supervising at the Construction Site, Car Showroom Beijing Shanghai Hangzhou - / 5,600 m² / 5,500 m² / 5,100 m² Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, PR CHINA Project and Cheif Architect / All the Phase of Project
BMW have advanced into Chinese market since 2008 with their standard design which head office in Germany has. However it doesn’t match with the site that is provided by Chinese dealer, and the showroom gets many idle spaces because of the largeness of the site. So BMW China had looked for the foreign office which knows well about the design for Chinese market, and been in contacted with us, then our collaboration started. Until now, apart from that design work, we designed three showrooms which was alreaady built in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. And also another conceptual work for redeveloping part of existing showrooms.

| The Exisiting BMW Car Showroom in China |
| Redeveloping Standard Design of BMW |
02 | Project | 01. Execution | BMW |
For corresponding with their concept “Efficient Dynamics” and flexibility of BMW vehicle design, basically we utilized their existing design: liner and grid. At the same time, actively we had tried to adapt “the design of dynamics”, “the design with nature” as new design factor. We use a lot of metal mesh fabric, wire and mirrored finished panel. And for avoiding monotonous and chilly impression, they are used repeatedly with slightly change and sensitive treatments.
9
| Beijing Pilot Inplementation Project | Following the success of the redeveloping BMW standard design project, in July 2011, BMA was asked to design the interior and exterior of a new dealership in Beijing. We are assigned to the customer area of 5,600m².
The theme of this project is “to express dynamics of automobile with minimum elements”. In the process, it leads to a conventional yet fundamental problem: “to push the limit of the brand image to maximize the possibility of design”: ultimately, it can be paraphrased as” to harmonize the conflicting ideas as ‘order and freedom’ or ‘unity and diversity’”. It is an inevitable challenge common to both architectural design and branding strategy.

| Shanghai Pilot Inplementation Project | This is the third project of our collaboration. The site that is located in residential area which is rather northwest than CBD in Shanghai.
To the exterior facade, office space and showroom, we applied the standard design that we designed for BMW 4S dealership store in China by collaboration with BMW China in last two projects. On the other hand, we tried to figure out new background design that strengthen the appearance of their concept “Efficient Dynamics on each car, and updated the space.
16
02 | Project | 01. Execution | BMW |
| Branding Centre Project |
During our collaboration, BMW has asked us to join some design work for their stores which is not pilot project but more like conceptual design work. For this project, they would like us to design 700m² rental car showrooms with little branding space. The customers come to this store and reserve their car and depart from this shop with it.
| Idea 01 / Chinese Dragon |
We suggested that the BMW stores should be localized bit more to China, then we got the concept from drangon. We put the series of walls to the store everywhere, at some point it can be pushed out from walls and have space for counter or barcorner. And also that walls made from mirrored to reflect the customer with the cars.
| Idea 02 / Circuit |
Our another idea is the circuit. Usual showroom must be flat and show the car usual, but this “Circuit” show the car with different angles and then if the customer get in the car, can get the view of circuit like real racing competitons.

| Description |
2011 November - 2012 June Design, Supervising at the Construction Site Retail Shop (for Stationary) 40 m² Shanghai, PR CHINA Project Manager / All the Phase of Project
This is the schematic design project for BiC Service that is most famous brand fot stationary and lighter all over the world, and it’s the first store in Asia area for them. The site is located in the Chinese typical wholesale market building in Shanghai. And the building is filled with stationary wholesale stores which are almost similar size. Thereby we would think how to design the eye-catching façade and how to leave the space for tons of wholesale stocks as the key of the design for this project.

02 | Project | 01. Execution | BIC |
| Main Concept of the Layout |
At first we put the shelves on both side walls for the enough storage space, and install tilted orange walls between each shelves for avoiding the view from the entrance. Radial arrangement of shelves emphasizes the depth of the space, and makes customers focus on the orange walls that exhibit BiC products. The wall in the end was covered with mirror and reducing the oppressive feeling of the confined store space.

Once coming into the store, the shelves are not seen from the entrance since they are behind of the tilted orange walls. And the displayed products on each wall will catch eye of customers.

| Signboard of the Entrance |
Signboard of the entrance is one of most important factors for the impression of the store.
| Cloud Shaped Lighting and Table |
In the centre of this store, there is a cloud-shaped counter which has different levels.
We designed it with a lots of colors and especialy orange since the impression of BiC brand and thier products, and put the logo that have lighting behind also together with.

| Description |
2010 September Design[open competition] Residence and Retail Shop 6,832 m² Medina of Fez, MOROCCO Project Manager / All the phase of project
In the site, there were full of Arabic traditional buildings which have high cultural and historical value and worth to be preserved. Besides it is located in the centre of Medina district, still many artisans live and work there. Then the site have highly potencial and possibility to be important place for both local people and tourist in next decades. So our insight for this project was how to develop this area by refining old valuabe architecture and putting new architecture. Our main concept was “INSIDE OUT”. Now almost all the building is closed to outside, public, and open to thier courtyard, private. And each courtyard has unique activity that characterize that building. So we tried to “inside out”, and expose the inside private space that is filled with a lots of activities out.

We tried to break the existing big public place into small pieces and spread out all around the site, so that more shaded spaces. And put new street between buildings, then connect each zone smoothly, and it’s also connected with riverbank street, and with slight slope that this site has, you will see new variety of experience.

| Refine Existings to New Architecture |
To preserve the existings is not only the way to keep present, but also to build new building that is similar with the existings. Our way to connect the past and the future is to draw new wider street between buildings and reinforce the structure of each, put new material which is consider with existing materials with combination. People walk through this street will see the existings and new alternately, and think them as new Medina district.

2013 February Design[open competition : website] Multi-purpose Hall 684 m² Izunokunishi, Shizuoka-Pref, JAPAN Project Architect / 2013 January
This competition is for the hall for Japanese traditional performing arts. Main concept of our design is super long stages, which is 10m width and 80m length and going western point to eastern point through the inside of building. Besides, it’s done with all same level, so when the door is opened, whole this space(80m x 10m) can be used at the same time. And the stage for traditional performing arts is placed at the most western point which has small cliff, so it can be seen from everywhere from surroundings. Also this hall can be used as the hot spot of the surroundings which are a lots of hot spring public bath.
| Material and Fireproof |
This building is constructed with only standardized wood panels, pieces or logs, and it let us to use local products of wood. And each piece’s size are concidered with fireproof standard, then it’s can be exposed at any point, even ceiling.

2010 February Research, Design[Diploma Project for Master Degree] High Rise Tower for University - m² Ochanomizu, Tokyo, JAPAN / -
The site is located in the centre of Tokyo. Now there are many redevelopment projects are considered around this site. Almost of them are supposed to be high-rise building. But it also breaks all the matters of surrounding, social construction, even the local people’s habits. This site is known well as the city for students, especially many university and colleage there. Most of their buildings are low(3~6 floors), and spread out everywhere.
Ochanomizu Station (Yamanote Line)
So I propose to build one big high-rise to combine two university, and spend the space where that university built for the other redevelopment project.

| Concept “Falling Tower” | As Koolhaas mentioned in his book, One of big problem of high-rise is the separated floor by slab.
1
4
Fall the high-rise down. Parts between each program will be public.
For the limits of the site and sun lays, roll them up. 2
5
Fall the buildings down, it can have public space on the middle of the building. And that public space works as terminal.
For the footprints of each function, each programs will be high and tight. 3
Aligh to the top for the view and sunlay for ground level.
6
Programs which is devided to mass prog and void pro, will be replaced on the floor connected by skip floor.

While the theme of this festival is “Short-Lived Curiosity”, we choose the Japanese traditional things, “U Chi Wa” that is used only during summer as materials. Only to show the beauty of its form, but without any other things, weave together U Chi Wa, this installation was made by the only U Chi Wa. Additionally the map of Montpellier is drawn on this U Chi Wa, so visitors can freely pick it off our installation. And that is also intended to spread like a scattering cherry blossom to the town. At the same time, this installation represents the theme of this festival by scattering to all over the city and getting shorter.

We joined Local Energy Reclamation Competition by Japan Government, then got the badget for this BookCafe project. But this project is totaly independent project. All this project is organized by we all student. The town is currently without a library, nor meeting hall people can gather. So we design the place like a big livingroom as people can feel free to stop by, read a book, drink coffee and chatting.

| Bookshelf Concept |
We proposed bookshelf. One side is usual book shelf. But another side is fiiled with the pipe (φ=150). People can see the title of book easily and put the book yet to be read into the pipe. To repeat this movement make their own book shelf.(This side is always updated.) Pointing the stick in the backdrop, can also display a special stuff.
| Workshop |
This town has decline and depopulation problems, which prospered as a post town along the highway. Through discussions with the city council, we felt the low awareness of the revitalization of the town residents. We believed this project should be done with local residents, and that’s the only way to change the situation in this area. So while this project, we organized a lots of workshop for some stuff this bookcafe needs, and communicated with resident then try to do this project together for the revitalization.
