TORAZ WAIST BAG

dESIGN sketch

Toraz comes from the Toraja word, which is a tribe originating from South Sulawesi which is famous for its traditions which are still maintained today. Waist Bag combines a masculine and sporty value that is suitable for travelers. Designed with a size that is large enough to be very helpful for users to store important items. This Toraz Waist Bag design is inspired by the distinctive roof of the Tongkonan House. Tongkonan house is a traditional house of the Toraja tribe that has a characteristic curved roof like a boat.

roro jongg -rang buffet

Roro Jonggrang Buffet is a buffet inspired by the legendary story of Roro Jonggrang where he gave a challenge to make a thousand temples in one night. Just like this buffet which was made at the Product Design Student Camp event organized by ADPII at UKDW, Yogyakarta. These buffets are designed in less than one night by our team and are produced in less than a day. The thing inspired by the legend is an aesthetic element of various sizes of bamboo sticks which number around ninety nine which are arranged in such a way and have a function as an organizer.

page 24

portofolio RORO JONGGRANG BUFFET

CONCEPTsketch The concept that we design inspired by the legend of Roro Jonggrang focuses on function. It can be said that the buffet that we made is very sensitive to users. Buffet that we made has an organizer made by bamboo pieces of various sizes arranged aesthetically. The holes can be used as a place to put items such as watches, combs, keys, and various small accessories. There are five main bamboo which have the largest size and do not have holes in the organizer. The big bamboo is the main storage area and can be used to store large items such as wallets, powerbank, cellphones and so on. The shelf above functions as a place to put clothes, towels and so on. While the bottom shelf is used as a shoe storage. At the top of the buffet there are hangers used to hang clothes, jackets, tuxedos and others.

page 25

portofolio RORO JONGGRANG BUFFET

detail & finishing The main material used in this buffet is Black Bamboo / Wulung Bamboo (Gigantochloa atroviolacea). Bamboo that has a large diameter is a Javanese bamboo that has a unique color that is black. This black bamboo is then processed by Cebongan craftsmen, Kaliurang, DIY by using a special tool called Pangot. A type of knife specifically for processing bamboo and can be used to punch holes in bamboo very well. Whereas for racks used bamboo slats that have smaller sizes. This bamboo material is also different which uses Bambu Apus which has brighter colors so that it adds variety to the buffet itself. Organizer is made of various types of bamboo that have different sizes. Especially for the five main organizers using Petung Bamboo which has the largest diameter and part of the section taken so it is not holey. For finishing we sand until smooth and coat it with liquid varnish so that it can increase the color of the bamboo. page 26

ko nt ou r ash-tray Ashtray is one product that is always side by side with smokers, even though it is only a 'side' product, ashtray sales also increase along with the high sales of cigarettes in Indonesia. There is rarely an ashtray that has a unique shape and most have a standard shape and are not very attractive. The organic form is the main concept of Kontour. This ashtray is inspired by the terracing contours that are commonly used by farmers in Indonesia for gardening or farming.

pr ot otyping This ashtray is made using Waterproof MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) material. The MDF board with a thickness of 5 millimeters is then stacked according to the height of the ashtray. After that, the formation process is carried out by using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) according to the 3D

page 34

modeling that has been made. This process takes around 6 to 8 hours starting from the roughing process to finishing. Finishing Kontour using a putty layer so that the surface of the MDF is resistant to embers from cigarettes, then painting using black spray paint.

CNC PROJECT

ALL A M ER ICA CLOCK All American Clock was created to fulfill the CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) project. This clock is made using a 3 axis CNC machine with two-dimensional protocol. The design concept used is inspired by elements that exist in America and also character traits that are closely related to America, such as super heroes and so on. The purpose of using the character of the American super hero is because the target consumers are children. This clock can also be used as an aesthetic element in a room that can give a cool and extraordinary impression.

3D Render 3D rendering of this product uses the Autodesk Fusion 360 application. Using four layers of MDF material to get such a shape. After 3D modeling, the MDF layers are combined into one and rendered using internal rendering from the Autodesk Fusion 360 application. The results of the design use material that can be lit to increase the aesthetics of the clock. Then after obtaining the rendering results of these products, digital imaging was performed using Adobe Photoshop to put the clock in an interior space. Digital imaging is useful to find out how the display of the clock in an interior room of a children's room has a color tone equal to the hour.

CINTA SEGITIGA LAMP

This Love-Triangle lamp is a group project that is carried out at the ADPII event namely Product Design Student Camp. This lamp uses bamboo material. We use beautiful skin from Bambu Tutul as the main frame for the lamp. To combine these frames we use the pangot technique. Pangot Triangle technique is a technique that requires high expertise and Cebongan craftsmen are one of the craftsmen who can do the technique.

Beautiful glow of light is produced by the exploration of bamboo material, which is the center of the bamboo. We cut the middle part of the bamboo and use the bamboo segments to produce a unique glow. This technique has been used quite a lot, but rarely use on Cendani Bamboo. Cendani has the smallest diameter compared to other bamboo so it requires more accuracy in the process.

WOVEE LAMP

This lamp is a basic design class project whose main purpose is the exploration of pitrit rattan material (small diameter rattan). This project uses pitrit rattan material in combination with transparent matte paper that can refract light glow. This lamp uses the technique of woven rattan in the process.

TOYS DESIGN

B ET T Y Betty is a project carried out to fulfill Designer Toys 1 courses. The purpose of this course is to make toy design characters that will be produced later. Betty's character itself takes the concept of Alice In The Wonderland where she is the girl who becomes the right hand of the Queen of Heart. Betty has an angry temper and always moody, which makes her the favorite girl of the Queen of Heart.

TOYS DESIGN

Halloween automata This is an automata toy that has the concept of halloween. The way to play this toy is by rotating the lever that is connected to the system that will move the pumpkins and also open the coffin. The material used in making this toy is balsa wood. The choice of

page 52

wood is because this wood is very light and easy to form. while for the pumpkin is to use 3D printers made from PLA. Then do the engraving technique on the words 'Trick or Treat'.

portofolio

Modeling Process This modeling process becomes a very important process because the condition for the functioning of an automata is in the precision of the system being assembled. The system used is quite simple because it only uses an oval shape as a tool to lift the pumpkin. Whereas to open the coffin using an arm that will pull and can return when the lever is rotated.

Prototyping Process

This prototype is made using balsa wood and acrylic. Cutting material using laser cutting to increase the precision of the automata.
