02 AANGAN
Aptly named AANGAN, is a Residence revolves around an asymmetrically placed courtyard, which acts like a buffer.
Concept The word ‘Aangan’ is a hindi word which has a very homely feeling attached to it. The courtyard not only acts as a datum but also serves as a climate responsive feature regulating the air movement in the building.
Design The courtyard has corridors on two sides and staircase on the third side, directing the influx into funnel like pathways into the various spaces inside the house. It adds the much required dynamics to the circulation space. The courtyard and the formal dining are a step lower than the rest of the house, volumetrically isolating them. The play of levels also adds the quite admired movement in the transition between spaces.
Second floor
First floor
The Family lounge has been strategically oriented to have views from the garden and swimming pool, with their openings on the North-South direction. The kitchen has convenient accessibility from the deck and the dining hall. The Eastern wing and the First floor has private spaces. The lounge area acts as a junction. The study has a ample amount of north light.
Ground floor
The entire house has been protected from direct heat gain via the horizontal shading devices on the Southern faรงade and vertical fins on the western faรงade.

WATCH TOWER
Obelisk you are, witnessing the change around you Without changing yourself a bit, Standing by your virtue
Concept
Design Evolution
The Watch Tower represents the journey of the city of Mcleodganj, looking over the city and witness it’s change at the same time remniscing from what it has come through.
The design is based on the watch tower which is approched with a staircase to reach to the platform having a museum in the centre and the observatory around it’s periphery
While going to the Observatory at the top, one can see the evolution of Mcleodganj portrayed on the walls. The four main places can be seen from the periscopic openings
Further the design is contrained in a cuboidal concrete tower which represents timelessness of the building, the Obelisk.
Design Evolution The bottom of the tower, symbolizes the beginning of the city during Colonial period, the essence of which can now be seen by a church, St John in the Wilderness, the only surviving structure of that era!
The maze like circulation with skewed passages is well contrived through the inclined walls, represents the earthquake which wrecked the city. This space induces, in the visitors, a feeling of uneasiness; aptly portraying the state of the city at that time.
The struggle through skewed passages, end at a platform, standing in the middle of nothing. A dark void running along the tower that symbolizes the unfortunate situation in which the city could forever remain desolated and become a ghost city!
A pillar rises from the floor of this space to the top, symbolizing the culture and the struggle of the Tibetans, along with a continuous exhibit showcasing the development of city after advent of Tibetans. This pillar is a memorial acknowledging their contribution.
This is an Observatory from where one can view the entire city and witness the change from past. The staircase in this space leads nowhere and is symbolic of the future the tower would hold. Like a blank canvas waiting to be filled!
This space starts at the bottom of the tower to symbolize the beginning of the city. Early Mc Leodganj was a hill station to the British, the essence of which can now be seen by a church, St John in the Wilderness, the only surviving structure of that era!

CHANDIGARH PAVILION
Reminiscing Corbusier vision of the refuge city - Chandigarh. Open to all and Open to recieve
Concept Chandigarh was built as a refuge city to accommodate the needs of a plethora of cultures. The design of the pavilion takes inspiration from this very concept. The pavilion is designed as a narrative of Chandigarh’s story. 1. Entry from open hand cutout 2. Open hand thread installation 3. Chandigarh map installation 4. Information panels 5. Stall Type I (size 3.5mX3m) 6. “Connections”, installation 7. Sukhna lake, wall mural 8. Stall Type II (size 4mX3m) 9. The accused cabin, High Court 10. Road network light and shadow installation 11. Store room (size 2.25mX4.75m) 12. Service Duct) 13. Tower of Shadows, Visitor’s room 14. High Court facade exhibition area 15. 17 sector plaza fountain 16. Metal Scupture by artist Shiv Singh 17. Pivoted doors with tapestries as exit

Accused cabin
Information Panel
Design The entry to the pavilion happens through an open-hand shaped cutout placed at some distance from the gate, giving appreciable visual experience to the visitor. At an appropriate distance, acrylic boards with relevant information about the history and evolution of Chandigarh have been provided for the awareness of the visitor. The roof forms of the stalls are synonymous to the roof forms of the various buildings in Chandigarh. The columns and pylons of the High Court have been used in the exhibition gallery. The visitors room is a replica of the Tower and Shadows which has been designed to provide focused views of the spaces in the pavilion.

Display
Pop ’n’ shop
Photobooth display
Pop ‘n’ shop is a first of its kind private fueled flea market venture, introduced in Chandigarh by SoulBowl. For such a unique venture, the clients wanted one of their kinds, handmade and eccentric decorations. Thus the entry was built out of waste cardboard boxes, with little souvenirs from each stall, combining the essence of the entire market in a compact display. The lighting cum decoration objects were all customized and handmade, each piece uniquely crafted.
Displayed in front of Open hand
The installation is a metallic bird resting over a mirror box. The bird is evolved from origami defragmented from metal sheets, and showcases optical illusion facilitated by the mirror box. At a particular angle, the metal bird seems to be suspended mid-air! The concept of the sculpture is freedom, for even a bird stuck on a box can be perceived as free; it’s only a matter of changing your visual perception.
