Smartness Index Measuring Smartness
Basix smartness index elicits 8 indices which encompasses everything that a system should have in order to be smart enough for user to be able to trust, use and adopt them effectively.
8 indices Smartness index
Unintrusive
Silent operation | Low visibility | Only when critical Reliable
Sustainable | Self Health monitor | easy maintenance | Trust | Fall back Delegation
Ability to complete required task | Accept orders | Decision making | Reduce cognitive load Submissive
Human over right | Wait for Authorisation | Make human feel like a superior species Sensorial
Create experience | Invoke emotions | Human Language, gestures, real life metaphors | Involve senses Flexible
Modular | Customizable | Device, space, media agnostic | Ease of install, shift, carry Responsive
Keep user updated | Inform everything | Quick and accurate | React - no poker face | In human language Social
Communicate with other devices | Compatible with other systems

Sandwich Theory Language layer
Defining Smartness Basix Sandwich Theory says that for any device to be smart, it needs to be sandwiched between two layers of humanization: Language & Learnability.
Device
Learnability layer
Defining Smartness Sandwich Theory
Language It forms the top most or external layer - the interaction layer. It is what users see, touch, hear, smell & taste. For a device to be smart, it has to communicate with the user in the language that he/she speaks. Learnability It is the bottom most or inner layer - the cognition layer. This layer is always hidden but its implications are seen in how a device responds and behaves. Devices should be able to learn user patterns, behaviours, preferences etc in order to suggest, predict & remind tasks user need to do in order to reduce his/her cognitive load.

Interaction Guidelines Creating Smartness Basix Interaction Guidelines is a guide to design the global interaction behavior of the system. It illustrates the 10 rules of thumb to help Designers, Developers and Product Managers to create experiences that are functional and usable.
Interaction Guidelines
1/10 Human
language for human interaction 2/10 Functional layering for hand holding 3/10 Looping the feedback 4/10 Consistency for experience of continuity 5/10 Bring it closer to reality 6/10 Hierarchy in information 7/10 Quick access and flexible navigation 8/10 Remeber to recognize 9/10 Respect the user, consider him smart 10/10 Make it social & shareable
