Introduction to Evan Russell Welcome to Savanna Evan Russell, VP U.S. Operations

Evan Russell recently joined Savanna’s team as the new Vice President of U.S. Operations. After graduating with his Petroleum Engineering Degree from Tulsa University, Mr. Russell proceeded to complete his MBA at Texas A&M, and begin growing a career in the oil and gas industry. Starting with entry level rig positions in the early 80’s, he has never looked back. “I have worked my entire career in the energy business, both upstream and downstream,” recalls Russell. Througout his career he has held positions with Helmerich and Payne, Inarc Drilling, Flowserve and Crane Valve Services. Most recently, Russell has been able to develop an international perspective on the industry as Operations Manager at Grey Wolf, which led to him opening Precision Drilling’s Dubai headquarters. In the summer of 2012, Russell and his wife moved back to Houston, which, ultimately, led him to work for Savanna. “Savanna has many qualities, but the one most enticing to me was the smaller size of the company,

yet one that has huge potential for growth,” Russell says. In his mind, this potential comes from the continued support from the Board of Directors and the Executive Team who will play an important role in Savanna’s growth south of the border. “Not only do we want to grow, but our reputation as premier supplier of drilling services (safety, people, processes, etc.) will be our growth driver.” When he’s not hard at work, Russell spends his time riding Harley’s and hunting, as well as with his family: his wife, Mary Jo, and her children, Carol Anne and Austin, as well as his daughters Candace and Allee. Russell also admits to being a die-hard fan to two local football teams: The Dallas Cowboys and OU Sooners. Russell will be working out of the U.S. head office in Houston, reporting to John Cooper, Vice President, Operations & Chief Operating Officer. We are excited to have Mr. Russell aboard and would like to welcome him to the team!

Q3 Results Despite increases in operating margins in both the US and Australia, a decrease in industry activity and demand in Canada led Savanna to experience an overall decrease in utilization, revenue, operating margins and EBIDTAS (Earnings Before Finance Expenses, Income Taxes, Depreciation, Amortization, and Share-Based Compensation) in Q3 2012 compared to Q3 2011. Wet conditions at the beginning of the quarter in Canada limited activity and the demand remained muted. This caused an overall decrease in EBITDAS to $34.9 million from $39.4 million in the same quarter last year. However, looking at the year-todate totals, the increases from the beginning of this year have held up to create an increase in EBITDAS to $28.9 million or 31% for the nine months ended September 30, 2012 compared to September 30, 2011. At Savanna’s Town Hall Meeting in Calgary, Savanna’s President and CEO Ken Mullen mentioned that what the numbers don’t show is that although Q3 was a challenge for Canada, Savanna did better than anticipated. “If you look at the individual businesses or look at the individual rigs and what we expected from them, in most categories we did better than we expected,” Mullen explains. As well, Mullen points out that the Company’s international operations have performed well this quarter. In the United States, although the economy has been slowing down for the past year and a half, Savanna has remained strong. “In fact,” he remarks, “our margins have gone up, our day rates have gone up, our utilization has gone up and our contract status has gone up.” Revenue for Savanna’s U.S. drilling operation alone was 12% higher in Q3 2012 than Q3 2011 and 21% higher on a year-to-date basis. In Australia, Mullen adds that the company is headed in the right direction to be the go-to company,

even with a smaller rig fleet. He also says that the levels of investment and faith in that demographic are beginning to pay off for the company. In the coming quarter, the focus will be on ensuring 95% of Savanna’s rigs have Top Drives which is part of the plan to build with a focus on automated components since that is the way the industry is going. “The key for us,” Mullen says, “is to be the best at what we do and be the rig of choice.”

Summits for Seniors Seeks Savanna Employee Support Since his father passed away from Dementia three years ago, Kevin Papke (Contracts Representative at Savanna) has had a desire to do something in support of the cause. In March of 2012, he set out with his love of climbing and the support of Bethany Care Foundation with a goal of summiting 50 peaks in his 50th year and raising $100 000 for dementia. Dementia is a term used for a variety of brain disorders, and can affect memory, language, judgement, and behaviour. More than 500 000 Canadians live with dementia; Alzheimer disease as the most common diagnosis. “It’s pretty terrible,” Papke says. “And there are no big drives to raise money for the disease.” With that in mind, he started climbing. To date, Papke has summited 40 peaks; been interviewed for the Calgary Herald and CTV Calgary’s Inspiring Albertans; and raised over $112 000 for the cause; all under the charity Summits for Seniors — but he’s not done yet! Recently, Papke increased his fundraising goal to $200 000 and is still seeking sponsors for the last 10 peaks. As it gets deeper into the winter months, he notes that his climbs will be less technical, but still challenging due to the snow and low temperatures. “When there’s enough snow you can ski in, and then kick off your skis and go ice climbing or kicking steps up the snow slopes or rock climbing.” Each time Papke receives a $2 000 donation from a person or a group, he takes along a flag with the name of the sponsor on his next summit. “I would love it if Savanna employees could get together and sponsor a climb,” he says. Currently, he has about half of the money raised from three employees and hopes to be able to carry an “Employees of Savanna” flag before he finishes all 50 peaks by March 22, 2013.* “It’s great knowing that you’re doing something good and getting the support from people and hearing thank you from people who at the Bethany Care Centre.” *Savanna Employees who donate are encouraged to enter a comment in the online donation form to say they are from Savanna so their donation can be included in the employee climb.

What does the U.S. Election mean for Savanna? Although Barak Obama was re-elected and the Senate will stay under Democratic control, the House of Representatives still has a Republican majority and therefore the U.S. will have a divided government.

“I think our recent Presidential and congressional elections in the US resulted in the status quo. I believe we will continue to see oil exploration and development at the current or even higher pace.”

Chris LeBlanc, Marketing Manager for Savanna U.S.A., says the election outcomes are not the only divided piece of the puzzle.

-Evan Russell, Vice President of U.S. Operations

“The country itself is still deeply divided in its belief in government’s role,” he says. Both divisions could lead to one of two options, in LeBlanc’s opinion: the parties could remain solidly entrenched in their doctrine or they could work to compromise and move the country forward. This means that over the next few weeks, there is a small possibility that the two parties will not take action to solve the fiscal crisis and bypass the automatic austerity measures previously agreed to, potentially starting a negative cycle of economic recession around the world. “This is the least likely option,” LeBlanc says. “But it is by far the most dangerous to not only the oil and gas industry but every economy around the world.” Assuming that this is not the case, LeBlanc feels that energy prices will have to remain reasonable in order to avoid recession. “Also, with crises in the Middle East at the moment, there is a bigger push than ever to be energy independent which will further push higher rates of domestic energy production,” LeBlanc says. “These are good things for Savanna.” On the negative side, LeBlanc points out that greater taxation in the Obama administration could cause uncertainty which been especially prevalent when looking at Obamacare. Through this, LeBlanc admits the affects on Savanna and the industry in general may not have differed much had the Republicans achieved office. “Although one party controls the White House and Senate, the country itself is still deeply divided,” he suggests. “I believe the financial realities for the world today, and especially here in the US, are going to basically tie whomever would have been elected to a very narrow window of options.” When asked about the future however, LeBlanc says that, in the end, like most elections, he feels there will be a year or so of adjustment and then it will be back to business as usual for Savanna!

“Americans have made their decision,” American Petroleum Institute Pres. Jack N. Gerard said on Nov. 7. “We look forward to continuing our work with the president and helping him fulfill his campaign promise to increase domestic oil and gas production that will create American jobs and strengthen our economy.” -Oil & Gas Journal, Nov. 12, 2012 We’re offering a better path, a future where we keep investing in wind and solar and clean coal; where farmers and scientists harness new biofuels to power our cars and trucks; where construction workers build homes and factories that waste less energy; where we develop a 100-year supply of natural gas that’s right beneath our feet. If you choose this path, we can cut our oil imports in half by 2020 and support more than 600,000 new jobs in natural gas alone. -President Obama, 2012 Democratic National Convention Speech Note: In his campaign, and again in his victory speech, President Obama mentioned that he was hoping to limit the country’s reliance on foreign oil while investing in alternate energy sources. With the Environmental Protection Agency rumoured to be working on some very ambitious goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and possibly adding a large number of species to the endangered list, the oil and gas industry could be negatively affected especially with their ability to explore new areas for drilling.

Australia — HSE News HSE Global Director Visits Australia

HSE News from Dwayne LaMontagne On my recent visit to Toowoomba and some of the rigs, I talked about my own Personal Commitment to HSE and that we would be encouraging the idea of everyone to make their own personal commitment. I am personally committed to building and promoting a pro-active HSE culture in all of Savanna’s operations and activities in Australia. I will strive to achieve this by: • Ensuring my actions and behaviours demonstrate leadership in all areas of HSE. • Promoting and supporting all HSE Management Systems. • Monitoring the HSE activities and reported incidents.

Recently appointed HSE Global Director Sterling Rideout visited our Australian Operation where he actively participated in the HSE Annual Forum which was held in Toowoomba on November 7th and 8th. The purpose of the forum was to roll out any new initiatives being undertaken and take part in team building with Savanna’s operational staff and clients. Attendees included the Australian HSE team, Operational staff: Don Goldade, Steve Kitzul, George Pequin, Lyn Beardmore, and David Berry. Guest Speakers were Sterling Rideout (Savanna), Claudia De Beer (Savanna), Graham Hayes (Savanna), Mark Henderson (DERM Government Regulator), Andrew Luhrs (Arrow Energy), Jodie Gurski (Arrow Energy) Jim Carr (Origin Energy), and Jeff Nixon (Origin Energy) Some of the items covered in the forum were: • Savanna Vision and Values • Origin Energy’s new life saving rules • Origin’s new program “Every day is a game day” • Incident reports • Wellsite permit to work system revision 3 –Savanna’s stop and think program -Co assessing for the new training packages required

• Having conversations with key people involved in reportable incidences and high potential near misses to discuss the incident and what the effects or potential effects have or had on the individual, their work mates, their families, our customers and Savanna. • Respectfully intervening when I see unsafe situations or behaviours. • Communicating to Savanna employees on the importance of our Vision and Values and how each Value pertains to our HSE goals. • Reporting all incidents, near misses, errors and omissions that I see and ensuring all Savanna employees understand the importance of the same. • Acknowledging and rewarding positive HSE results and actions. • Promoting each and every employee of Savanna to create their own “Personal Health, Safety and Environmental HSE Commitment Statement”.

Sterling was a welcome sight to many in Australia and his enthusiasm was contagious amongst the HSE team he talked to. Sterling spoke about what direction he wanted HSE Globally to achieve and how we should progress encompassing the One Savanna theme. We look forward to working closely with Sterling in an effort to achieve our ultimate goal, ZERO HARM.

The Australian HSE team would like to take this opportunity in wishing each and every one of you and your families, a Safe and Merry Xmas. It is also timely to remind everyone that the Festive Season is a time where we need to focus on Safety more than ever as activities on our roads increase with scheduled holiday makers journeying to destinations within the state. This together with alcohol and fatigue makes our roads ever more dangerous to travel on and we ask all of you to take special care and to keep safe over the Festive season. Remember, safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Australia Payroll News by Marcia Wilkinson HR & Payroll Systems Upgrades The upgrade of several of our systems has commenced with work progressing in the first stage of a three phase upgrade. Testing is due to commence in December 2012 to move from our current ADP payroll system which we have outgrown. The company has now reached a size where the current system’s capacity to provide both management and staff with all that is required of today’s payroll systems has far been exceeded. We are moving to a more sophisticated system still within ADP with an anticipated “Go Live” in January 2013. Phase two of our upgrades will be the introduction of an HRMS System (Human Resource Management System) followed later in the year by phase three of the TMS System (Time Management System). Australian employees will all be receiving new log on details, Client ID’s, Employee Numbers in early January with detailed instructions on how to use the new website. We anticipate that we will be able to resolve a lot of the issues that a lot of you are having in understanding your payslips and entitlements. Some of the new features we anticipate being able to provide you with are: • More detailed payslips • Employee’s ability to reset their passwords • Ability to Report your Accrued Field Days • Reports will be able to be run on demand for various employee queries As you can appreciate this is going to be a very busy and demanding time for payroll during the next three months and we appreciate your patience and understanding while we go through the inevitable pain that any system upgrade causes. We will keep you updated on progress during the next few months.

Training News Rig Tech III Canadian Qualification now recognised in Australia! Training met with the Academy of Career Training (ACT) and finalized a process to have the Canadian Rig Tech III qualification mapped to the Australian Cert II & III Drilling. Recently a test run of the process was conducted with success. Here is what Training requires all Canadian Staff with Rig Tech III to complete: • Forward a copy of your Rig Tech III to Taryn Ashton, Training Coordinator • ACT will gap analyze against your current Cert IV/Diploma and return a list to training for the candidate • This list will require the candidate to gather further evidence should not take more than a day at most) • Upon returning the portfolio of evidence to training the package will be reviewed and then forwarded to ACT We request that all Canadian employees working in Australia who hold a current Rig Tech III forward to Taryn a copy of your qualification so Training can progress your Cert II and Cert III qualification. Transport Main Roads Permits in Australia are a major issue when trying to move a rig on both federal and state roads. Recently Savanna Trucking has initiated a meeting with the Queensland Transport and Main Roads covering a range of issues including individual permits, single trip permits, multiple period permits, online permitting and streamlining the registration process from import to operations. This has culminated in an industry body representing the drilling company logistics from all the major drilling companies coming together on a quarterly basis to discuss the progress and streamlining of the QTMR system. This has been an extremely successful intuitive and one which has been applauded by the QTMR as long overdue.

National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) is a voluntary alternative to conventional heavy vehicle enforcement. Savanna demonstrates that their vehicles and drivers comply with the standards set by the NHVAS through regular audits, training and assessments. The benefits of holding this accreditation are improved transport efficiency by reducing the impact of conventional regulatory enforcement, improved road safety, increased productivity of the transport industry through adoption of ‘best management practices’ and higher mass limits to be established in a responsible way. In 2010, Savanna was accredited with the NHVAS with the Basic Fatigue Management (BFM), Mass Management and Maintenance Management modules. In 2012 Savanna was accredited with the NHVAS in Advance Fatigue Management (AFM) module. There are only 12 companies in Australia that have this accreditation, so we are very proud to be one of the operators under this scheme. Savanna Trucking recently held the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) quarterly compliance audit for all three modules Savanna complied with all audit requirements with pass rate of 96%. Well done everyone!!

Stanley Lee Primus His name was Stanley, but we called him “Primo the Gentle Giant”. He had a big heart and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. Primo lived his life by the Bible Verse Acts 20:35 It is more blessed to give than to receive. Primo started working with Savanna on Rig 642 in June, 2009 as a leasehand. He was proud of his ability to work his way up and was promoted to Driller in March of this year. He was working on getting more of his family members to Odessa to get them working at Savanna, he would always joke that one day he was going to be a Rig Manager and his rig would be all Samoans!

Stanley Lee Primus, Jr. was born on May 19, 1983, in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1985, his mother moved Stanley & his sister, Shaylah to Brooklyn, New York, to be with their father. He attended schools in Brooklyn, New York, & in June 2001, he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. While at Abraham Lincoln, he played Junior Varsity & Varsity Football, under the direction of Athletic Director’s, Mr. Schoenfeld & Ms. Ebed; & his coaches, Mr. O’Connor, Mr. Chapman “Chappy”, & others. He played in the All Star Games between Long Island & New York, & the Governor’s Bowl at Rutger’s University. Stanley went on to continue his education at Nassau Community College, where he received his A.A. Degree, & received a full Athletic Scholarship to attend Temple University. After leaving Temple University, he began to play Arena Football with various teams in Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, etc. After Football he made a choice to pursue the Oil Fields in West Texas, where he went from the bottom up in two years, & became an Oil Driller. Stanley was a happy child, a good son, father, & friend. He touched the hearts of so many people that he met & made friends with, throughout his short life on Earth. Stanley Lee Primus, Jr., was predeceased by: Pulelei’ite Alailefaleula, grandfather; Tuioleloto Atuatasi Alailefaleula, grandmother; Rudolph Primus, grandfather; Ellis J. Scott Edward

In Memory of Scott Edward October 20, 2012

Little did we know that morning

God was going to call your name. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone.

For part of us went with you,

The day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories,

And though we cannot see you, You are always by our side. Our family chain is broken

And nothing seems the same.

But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.

A quote from the notepad Scott carried around to write down his duties and what to check around the rig.

Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue (R-Mar) is a registered Canadian nonprofit charity with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever homes for homeless dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Our dedicated team of volunteers rescues animals from overcrowded Canadian animal shelters, and homeless dogs and puppies from Native Reservations, primarily the Stoney Nakota Reserve in Morley, Alberta. Lead by director Rory O’Neill, a dog behaviorist and rehabilitation specialist, R-Mar provides a unique environment that allows each animal to be rehabilitated, trained and matched into a loving home. Since 2000 our amazing team has successfully rescued over 3,200 homeless, starving and lonely dogs and puppies. Save a Life, Adopt a Rescue We rescue and rehabilitate hundreds of homeless animals who were struggling to survive. These photos are all of animals looking for loving adoptive fur-ever homes.

If you can’t adopt – foster Many of our animals stay with our loving foster families until a fur-ever home match can be found.

If you can’t foster – sponsor We have a growing need for financial support to help special case animals who require unique transport and veterinary care in order to get ready for a better life. Heidi, in the last photo, came all the way from Iraq where she was treated extremely inhumanely.

If you can’t sponsor – volunteer No one is too young or too old to help save lives. We are always in need of volunteers with professional services, trades skills, and animal handling support.

If you can’t volunteer – donate Every little bit counts and adds up to help needy animals. Vetting, transportation, and basic animal supplies are all needed to support the many animals we help every day.
