HAITÍ Save the Children has worked in Haiti since 1978 focusing on child protection, education, health services, food security, livelihoods, humanitarian relief, disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness for children and families. We work in both urban and rural communities in l’Artibonite, South, Grand Anse and West departments and the capital Port-au-Prince.

OUR WORK INCLUDES Survive Save the Children focuses on increasing the quality, availability, and use of health, clean water, sanitation, hygiene and nutrition services and practices that impact newborn, child, adolescent, and maternal health - contributing to the end of preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths in Haiti. We work to ensure a comprehensive continuum of care at the facility, community, and household levels and encourage community participation in community-based services and health centers. At every level, we encourage quality, youth-friendly service delivery and efficient referral systems. With the help of our partners, we help generate awareness and health service-seeking behavior change.

STORIES FROM THE FIELD

Asmithe, 18.

The HEART program gave me chance to sing and dance. I am usually a shy person; this has helped a lot to reduce the fear I had after the hurricane.

I want to know more about family planning and health so that I can protect myself and take better care of my son. The youth club supported by Save the Children helps me in this

FUNDING REQUIRED

To continue our work to support children to survive by strengthening community health workers and increasing their capacity to work more closely with the communities.

To better protect communities from the impact of humanitarian disasters we want to further our work of economic empowerment for those at risk.

To strengthen access to information on children’s rights we want to increase our work on supporting the development of a strong and vibrant civil society.

Child protection must remain a priority in the immediate and long term by strengthening State and community capacities to prevent and respond to child protection concerns.
