The Savile Row Training Academy Awards were created to challenge and encourage the students and graduates of today to be creative and innovative, whilst still respecting the tradition and craftsmanship of tailoring. Each finalist was asked to produce two different outfits for menswear, womenswear or unisex markets. The entrants had to ensure that each design was individual, one being more traditional, focusing on fit, quality and detailing. Whereas the other could be more conceptual, encouraging the entrants to push and experiment with the boundaries of tailoring. Both of the outfits had two work together as a part of a collection, meaning a theme, colour, and fabrics and detailing should be constant. In order to qualify for the competition the entrants had to be, full time or part time students, or graduates within two years of completing their degree, completing a degree in a design related course, within the UK.


There were also specific submission requirements for entering their work; it must have evidence of there •

Sampling and design development

Fabrics and colour palette

Illustrations of chosen two outfits

Technical board

And a 200 word written statement

Each entrant had to have uploaded their entries by midnight on 02/01/2014 and would find out if they made it into the top 20 by 10/01/2014

BLADEN a company, created by two brothers, William and Arthur Bladen, initially to supply riding wear to the coutry classes. Quality was always important to the company as much as when it started to when the label grew. Their jackets, breeches and cavalry twills only made from the finest clothes that the British Isles had to offer. -AWARDÂŁ500 Cash Prize If the winning designs incorporates tweed fabrics and goes through to production, the winner potentially could receive royalties from each garment sold.

Presented to the student who displays creative & innovative research & development in their work In order to be considered for this bursary you will also need to submit 200 word statement on how you will spend the money and how it will benefit your practice The winner will also be expected to blog about their experience which may be used for PR purposes

Jack Dougall Winner of the Dugdale Bros & Co Award

£1000 CASH PRIZE £500 of fabrics to the winner purchased through Dugdales £500 of fabrics to the winners education provider purchased through Dugdales Invitation to visit Dugdales head quarters in Huddersfield Jack Dougall, a student studying Fashion with Business Studies at The University of Brighton from Chingford, London wowed the judges with his design. Jack enjoys mixing modern and old structures to create striking and challenging garments. Jack said; "Winning this award honestly means the world to me. This project was my first experience with


tailoring, so to be both recognised by the Savile Row Training Academy and rewarded Dugdale Bros & Co is truly an honor. In addition to this the amazingly generous prize given to me by Dugdale Bros & Co will help me greatly in my final year collection when the time comes. Thank you so much to everyone involved in the competition for giving me this chance to showcase my work�

Kanrawee, a student studying Fashion Design the University of Kingston, London, explains how her collection was inspired by the concept of an old film camera, a set and an elegant model.


Kanrawee said; “I am so thrilled and overwhelming after finding out that I'm one of the winners. It really made my day and I was jumping around in front of a fabric store in central London. I called my mum and emailed my course director straight away. My mum is my best supporter, always says positive things and believes in me. I'm really looking forward to visiting and learning new things the Savile Row Training Academy and Bruce Oldfield. �

Lizzie Atkins Winner of the Bladen award

Lizzie, a student studying Fashion Studies at the Arts University Bournemouth explained that her interest in


antiques inspired her to explore history and developed her interest in war garments. Lizzie said “Being a winner of the National tailoring awards 2014 feels surreal! This is my biggest achievement so far and has given me so much confidence towards my own personal approach to design. I am so proud and honoured to have my name next to this prestigious award. I feel positive, excited and motivated for the future and will continue to work hard so I can achieve my dream career in the tailoring industry. Thank you to the judging panel and Bladen for my award, and congratulations to the other deserving winners!�
