Thanks to movies like Reefer Madness, and the current federal laws, marijuana has been attached to a negative stigma, but have you heard about the benefits of medical marijuana? Marijuana was first used medicinally in the late 1970’s to treat glaucoma. In 1978, Robert Randall sued the federal government for arresting him for using cannabis to treat his glaucoma. Cannabis works well for glaucoma, as it has been known to lower the intraocular pressure of the eye, which is the goal for relieving the pain and pressure of glaucoma. The judge ruled in Randalls favor, and required the FDA to set up a program that allows the growth of cannabis on a farm at the University of Mississippi, and that was the beginning of the study of the benefits of using medical marijuana. Cannabidiol, which is abbreviated to CBD, is one of the many active cannabinoids identified in cannabis. CBD does not offer the intoxicating effect that THC does. What CBD does offer though, is a medicinal way to provide health benefits to the human body. Studies have shown that CBD can stimulate bone growth, kill certain kinds of cancer cells, prevent seizures, control muscle spasticity, and many more remedies. Charlotte Figi, an 11 year old from West Hartford, CT, developed Dravet Syndrome, which is a severe form of epilepsy, as a baby. By the time Charlotte was 3 years old, she was having upwards of 300 grand mal seizures a week, while in treatment. After her parents learned of another child with the same condition that was using medical marijuana, they decided to

try it on Charlotte. Both her parents and doctors agreed that she had improved considerably. There was no risk to Charlotte, as this was a very low level of THC, and high level of CBD. Less than two years later, her epilepsy had improved so much, that she is now down to about four seizures a month. The reverse searing method can lead to a wellbrowned holiday roast with an evenly cooked interior that’s tender and flavorful. 1. A day before cooking, dry brine or season roast and leave it uncovered in the refrigerator to develop crust and flavor. This dries the outside of the roast and forms a layer that allows even browning while locking in moisture. 2. Place roast in the oven at a low temperature to cook evenly from edge to edge. Take it out at an interior temperature of 5-10 degrees below desired finished temperature; it will cook a little more while resting and during searing. 3.
