Attitude “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. - Charles R. Swindoll

Introduction
My Journey with Mandalas My mandala journey started in 2006 without me being aware of it. As an Art Director and Graphic Designer, I work to meet clients’ needs. Back then, I was working for a publishing company and advertising agency. I created ads and managed the overall workflow a nd production. I’ve always been connected with design and created the logo designs and corporate identity for clients of very different businesses. And no matter what type of industry, the common denominator has always been the need to communicate a message graphically. That’s what I trained for at university. I have the privilege of working in this field for 2 3 years and counting. I speak graphically, and that’s been my design company’s tag line since 2008: “Graphically Speaking.” For more info, you can visit www.savisualarts.com Back in 2006, I felt the need to find other ways of expression that didn’t require me to solve any communication challenges. It was just for the joy of creation and “for no particular reason” (in quotations because I’ve been using this phrase so much lately that it will be the title of my next book.). Warning: I’ll be using this expression several times in this book. I have a hidden passion for photography (not hidden anymore), and one of my “for no particular reason” projects was to take nature photography, especially plants and flowers. I can see now how everything was connected. You can check my online photography portfolio at www.savagallery.com. Without knowing it, my exploration journey had started. I took my photos. I started to manipulate them to create something new digitally. I soon began to see a pattern in my process, and I decided to give them a name: the “Fantasy Metamorphosis: Supernatural Visions of a Blooming World.” There was so much freedom in this work that every person has their own interpretation. It was fascinating to hear the descriptions of they saw. With this series, I was selected to showcase at the Miami Art Show, and I was a guest artist at the New York’s Art Convention at the Javits Arts Center. That occasion provided my first visit to New York City. You can see part of my work here: www.fantasymetamorphosis.com Fantasy Metamorphosis has been evolving ever since, and after a couple of years, the pieces started to show a distinctive center, a more organized pattern. I’m fascinated by symmetry, and I began to feel a sort of calmness and connection to something else that I couldn’t describe. Seeing the shapes and colors change and transform in front of my eyes was (and still is) one of the most exciting and calming experiences I’ve ever had. 12
Soon, people started to see things and call them names, or find a logical way to describe them. Some of them said they looked like kaleidoscopes, and others called them mandalas. I had no idea what a mandala was, but I was happy to hear they had a name - mandala sounds soothing to me and it was a great way to describe what I felt with them. I continued creating pieces, and one series evolved into something else throughout the years. I didn’t have a lot of activity for about two years, but in 2019, something showed up beautifully— Islamic Symmetry. I always loved patterns and Islamic tiles, creating beautiful art. However, I hadn’t paid too much attention to it until I saw a TedTalk about it, describing the process of creation. I was amazed by it, and I realized “I can do that.” I rushed to my computer and started to draw. It was a new glorious moment of creation. I felt a combination of excitement, fascination, and calmness, all at the same time. It became a non-stop process. These designs started to literally pour out of me. As I sat back and looked at the new artwork, I found them again…. they became mandalas! I was in such a state of joy! Mandalas showed up in my life again! On a different path, with a separate process, they came back to me. These mandalas brought me so much joy that I needed to find what their purpose was. What can I do with them? It became clear if I feel so good creating them, maybe others can benefit from them too. “For no particular reason,” I started to place them in a book format, and since they were black and white, I thought: could people color them? That was the beginning of the creation of this book. Although I had to put it on hold for the rest of 2019 because I was focused on other projects and assisting clients, I knew something was gestating there. Year 2020, a year that the world will remember vividly. In the middle of the pandemic, everything was going crazy:the news and the people, the uncertainty, the chaos. I let go and made a decision. I can face this with fear, or I can face this with calmness. I chose the latter. It was not easy at all, and meditation was a great tool. The natural uplifter that I am came to my rescue, and the question to myself was, what can I do to uplift people’s spirt? What is my contribution to the world? What is my role since I’m not in the frontline?
13
I started a 40-day healing meditation for my loved ones, myself and the entire world. t’s a Kundalini Yoga meditation. I also started another meditation, the “so-hum” meditation, as explained by Deepak Chopra. Starting with the four soul questions: • Who am I? • What do I want? • What’s my purpose? • What am I grateful for? (I highly recommend this one; you can find the instructions on page 17.) The key is not to force the answers; the answers come unexpectedly during meditation or after. The answers can change at any time. The answer that came to me the fastest, and even before finishing the question was: who am I? The answer: an uplifter. It came repeatedly and consistently. Noted. Dancing is a great way to change your state, shift your energy. Since I’m also a dance instructor, I started to host online meetings “for no particular reason” to help people move, smile, and raise their vibration. I hosted meditation, dancing and stretching events. Until that night. The night of realization. I was creating mandalas with a plan to continue the design of this book. During that phase, I realized that I intended to create a coloring book, and I hadn’t painted any of them yet. I thought, “It’s time to paint my own mandala!” I printed one to see what would happen. All of the sudden, I found myself painting every night, multiple copies, in different styles, one unusual discovery—another of my non-stopping events. For several nights, I was in a painting frenzy. My dear husband, who’s very curious and analytical, needs to find an explanation for everything. He would come over, be silent, and turn around until he needed answers. I knew the questions would eventually start, and they did! He would ask: “This is nice. What is it for?” Me: “I don’t know. I’m an artist; if I don’t do art, I’ll explode.” Next night: “But why do you paint them?” Me: “I don’t know. For no particular reason.” (I really didn’t know why) He kept asking and didn’t get any reasonable answers from me. Until one night, he changed the question: “What or how do you feel when you paint them?”
14
And it finally did the trick. It made me click, and I started to describe my feelings and emotions. “When I paint them, I feel grounded, in a sort of trance, connected to source energy. I feel calm, centered; I feel infinite and limitless. This art can take so many shapes; it’s not just coloring; it transforms; it’s transformational. It never ends; it evolves. It’s ’Beyond Coloring.’” In that instant, I thought: “Could others feel this? Or similar? What would happen to them? Would I be the only one feeling like this? Could others benefit from it? Could I bring them joy? Could I bring them peace for at least a moment?” I needed to find out. I posted a question on social media; it was very casual. I asked if any of my friends would be interested in painting a mandala with me. To my surprise, many people showed interest. With no hesitation, I just did it. I hosted my first mandala party. It was a pleasure, an event filled with joy, peace and relaxation. This event may have changed the course of my life and who knows, of many others. A selfless intention, sharing my gift, where money was out of the equation. It came from pure joy and love in times of desperation.
Experiences at the workshop I think it’s beneficial to share some of the experiences of the people who attended my mandala coloring workshop. I intended to create an event where people can relax and have a good time tapping into their inner creative child and letting go in the process of self-expression. And just play! In an environment of no judgment, they were free to create something collectible and be present feeling the energy of all of us, even in the distance since we were not in the same room but still connected — the sublime moment of human connection in peace. As a result, my wishes were granted, and people started to share their experiences. To my surprise, there were discoveries. I received such great feedback that I decided to put this book together to share and see if we can continue this work of transformation. The attendees felt relaxed in a moment that we all needed it. (This took place during the quarantine (May, 2020). They learned about perception and how not to judge and let inspiration allow things to be what they are.
15
One of the most touching experiences was from a mother and child. They painted together, and that created a peaceful moment of bonding and serenity that lasted the rest of the day in their home. A hyperactive boy in the middle of the confinement that quarantine creates was able to have a moment of peace, connection and enjoyment with his mother. This event was more incredible than I expected and my motivation to create and continue this work.
The purpose of this book My intention is to help you unleash your creative spirit. I created these mandalas, so if you don’t know how to draw, you have no excuses; you can create from them. Use them as a base to experiment. Paint or draw outside the lines if you want. There are no limits. You can color them, or you can draw on them, or both. I included some samples as examples of what you can do - observe the transformations. I invite you to be present; this is the time for you. This book is my invitation to let me guide you to experience peace of mind, calmness and connect to your higher self through art.
Doing the unthinkable thing: turn your cell phone off This is a time to be with yourself; trust me – it’s worth it, and the world won’t stop spinning. Cell phones are the primary distraction we all suffer. When you dedicate time for yourself, not only you help yourself, you help your surroundings, your affections.
Keeping the pot full and empty You can’t give to others if you don’t replenish yourself so that you are full: full of love, full of attention, full of life. Nurturing yourself by investing time on yourself keeps filling yourself so you can give. Don’t forget to empty until the last drop so that you can replenish with fresh of you.
A journey of self-discovery Flip the pages of this book and stop at a page that attracts you. That mandala is the one that is choosing you at this moment. Ask the mandala the following question: -What do you want? And start to create on it or paint it. When you finish
16
this mandala or any other, you will discover something about yourself that you didn’t know. I’d love you to share it if you wish. Please take a photo of your finished piece with your discovery. What do you feel when painting them? Do they calm you down? Do they excite you? What is happing inside you? I’d be excited to hear from you. You can e-mail me at eternalcreatorshub@gmail.com
You are invited! I’m creating a community of creators, a place where we can share our experiences and learn from others. There is a reason why you came across this book: to learn something about yourself, find a word of encouragement you need to hear, or see what others are experiencing, learning, or sharing. The reasons are unlimited; you will find yours. It’d be nice to hear from you!. Please visit my website for more information about the Eternal Creators Project: www.eternalcreators.com
Meditation with the So-Hum Mantra About the mantra: This is the mantra of the breath. As you take a deep breath, if you pay attention, the air coming through your nose will have a sssss sound; this is “so.” When you exhale, it changes to a humming noise like “hum.” These are the vibrational sounds of the breath. To try it out, you can cover your ears, and you will hear it more loudly. With your eyes closed, breathe in and think of the word “so;” when exhaling, think of the word “hum.” Gradually, both the breath and the sound will become quieter and the breath seems to stop. By quieting the breath, you quiet your mind.
Prepare your body and environment Find a place where you can spend time with no interruptions. You can start with 10 or 15 minutes. Sit in a comfortable position; you can sit on easy pose (legs crossed) if it feels comfortable to maintain with no effort. If you feel discomfort in this pose, sit straight on a chair. Before you start the So-Hum meditation, take a deep breath, and ask the four soul questions: • • • •
Who am I? What do I want? What’s my purpose? What am I grateful for? 17
As I previously explained, you will get the answers during or after your meditation. Don’t force the answers; they will just pop out when you least expect it. After you ask the soul questions, start the So-Hum meditation. If your mind wanders, which it will, gently come back and focus on your breathing. Keep breathing. Set your alarm for 15 minutes, so time doesn’t become the focus of attention. If you use your phone alarm, set your phone in silent mode! The alarm will go off anyway, and you won’t be distracted. In my case, when it comes to mediation, depending on the day, the first 15 minutes are just to get started, as my brain is super active, and I need to stay longer. You may need more time too, but it’s OK if you can only dedicate 15 minutes. The intention of doing this meditation is to lower the frequency waves of your brain to enter the alpha estate; this will enhance your connection with creativity. And maybe you will get some interesting answers from your inner self or source. This is part of your self-discovery journey. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this meditation, don’t do it. Just take deep breaths and close your eyes for a moment. If you like this meditation, you can continue doing it every day for as long as you want, not only before painting. I use this meditation to ease the mind; I don’t need it to paint. When I paint, I get in “the zone” pretty quickly because I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a child, so I have a lot of practice. I get in a creative trance fast! If this is new to you, meditation is a great tool to get started. And just now, as I’m writing this for you, it occurs to me that I could meditate in preparation as well and see what happens….creativity on steroids…

A Different Approach Trasforming mandalas
ORIGINAL MANDALA
As you can see, the image on the left is the original mandala I created. • I started to color them with a black marker. To my surprise, I discovered that a simple mandala could turn into infinite designs as shown below. • I invite you to participate in a creative journey where you can modify the original mandala that I present to you and make your design. Don’t limit yourself, since there is not right or wrong. • You can add your personal touch and add color as well. • Be free, unleash your creativity. Use my designs as the foundation. • See how they transform in front of your eyes. • The possibilities are infinite here and as in life.
INFINITE POSSIBILITIES OF TRANSFORMATION

You can see here that I divided the mandala into four quadrants to show you samples of what you can do. Quadrant 1: Fill small areas with black ink. Quadrant 2: Draw lines to fill in small areas. Quadrant 3: You can paint polka dots style Quadrant 4: Draw curvy organic lines. You can paint the whole mandala, like in these quadrants, and combine all styles if you wish. You can also find your style. Have fun!!! 20
Guidance to paint and create on these mandalas 1. Did you turn off your cell phone yet? 2. Find a place where you can set up your area; this will be your creative spot.
3. Gather your pencils, markers, or other painting tools. Have them organized. Check if you need to sharpen your pencils before you start.
4. Make sure you set a time when you will be the least interrupted. Lock your kids in a cage. Joking! (Come on. I know what you’re thinking -it may not be a bad idea!)
5. I usually choose the late night, it’s when my creative spirits visit me the most. Joking…not. I’m a night owl, and the night’s silence is my favorite sound.
6. Playing smooth music can add to your experience. Depending on the night, I go silent or play meditation music or house music. Binaural beats with headphones are fantastic!
7. Before starting, make sure you have anything you need so you don’t interrupt the process.
8. Stay hydrated. I hydrate with wine :), so I prepare my glass in advance.
9. Go to the bathroom before starting. This may be a silly instruction, but I’m trying to keep your flow. If you “have to go” in the middle of your process, please do! I don’t want to hear that you peed your pants…or worse.
10. Do the page-flipping, as I explained in “A journey of “selfdiscovery on page 16.
21
11. You are ready to start doing the so-hum meditation as described on page 17, or not; it’s your choice. You have the mandala in front of you. Now close your eyes, take three deep breaths and exhale. Open your eyes (you need your eyes opened to paint, or not, tell me how it goes!) and ask your mandala: “What do you want?” If it responds, dial 911, you need psychiatric assistance. JUST KIDDING! After you ask, let it flow, follow your impulses, paint, draw, let it go.
12. Check my suggestions as on pages 19 & 20. See if you want to apply any of the techniques or come up with some of your own. Have a practice paper handy; if you are not too familiar with your painting tool, practice a little before applying to the mandala, this way you can see if you like it before using it.
13. While you are in your process, the mandala will tell you when to stop, especially when you are adding your extra touch. Listen to your inner guidance. You can also write in your journal after your process. Don’t overthink; write whatever comes. You can revisit later and reflect on it.
14. After you finish, take a photo and send it to me and your experience if you wish to share. You can e-mail me at eternalcreatorshub@gmail.com. Or post it as a comment on my blog:
Congratulations! You created something that it’s unique to you! You can carefully cut the page out of the book, hang it, or frame it and be proud of it! I’m sure it will inspire you to paint more. HAVE FUN!!! I host live events online. Check my website to participate in the next one and become part of our creator’s community. https://www.eternalcreators.com/events

Intro to the world of mandalas As I previously mentioned, I had no idea what a mandala was when they started to take form in my art. I’ve been receiving mandalas for years through different art forms. When I started to create the book, I felt the need to investigate them, and maybe I’d find answers about the way they appeared in my life. I will share some of my findings.
The awareness of the mandala When we become aware of mandalas, we become conscious of the interconnection of the world. In nature, the mandala is present more than you can imagine. By observation, you will discover the infinite presence and connectivity in the elements that form it. “The study of mandalas often includes contemplating the core of reality, what is at the ‘true center’ of the world in which we live.” - Lori Bailey Cunningham “Mandala” is the Sanskrit word for “circle.” Sanskrit is a language found in the scriptures of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, and it’s one of the oldest known languages in the world. As described in the book, You Are the Eyes of the World; the mandala is “An integrated structure organized around a unifying center.” Some of the most remarkable artworks are the Tibetan Mandalas; the study of these mandalas deserves an entire book; for now, I need to at least mention them. They are an instrument of meditation. They are created with colored sand by Tibetan monks who work in the construction for several weeks. After completion, these mandalas are dismantled in a ceremony as a demonstration of the impermanence of life.
We live in a mandala world “A mandala is also any circle, such as the disc of the sun or moon, and, by extension, any environment or surrounding the sphere of influence of kingdom, the circle of acquaintances of a person, and so forth.” - Robert Thurman Planet Earth is a sphere, as are the sun and the moon. It’s an integrated structure organized around a unifying center, which is the core; we live in a mandala. As I started to observe, after reading about the presence of the mandala in nature, I realized the structure of the mandala in everyday items, like plants and fruit.
23
Look at these views of fruit and veggies. These are transversal cuts of the following fruits; they all have an organized structure around a center.
The list of things in nature is infinite; now, you can start your discovery by observation. Be aware of your surroundings, and you’ll be amazed.
Do you know what the most exciting mandala is? YOU We become human after our mother’s egg is fertilized. Her egg has the characteristics of a mandala (circular). After conception, the cells, the atoms with a central nucleus, and compose our body, are organized in the different structures which create the shape of our human composition. We are mandalas living in a mandala planet. I learned the concepts mentioned in the above intro from “The Mandala Book, Patterns of the Universe” by Lori Bailey Cunningham
I’ve always been attracted to patterns, circular shapes and symmetry. The logos that represent my leading design company and new Eternal Creators project have a circular shape, and I designed them both before I started my mandala research. It’s no coincidence that this sacred shape has such a strong presence in my life that I’m just beginning to understand.
24
What are mandalas? At first glance, mandalas are circles with patterns or designs originating from the center. They represent wholeness and have spiritual significance to some individuals and groups. Mandalas are made by many people and cultures, but the mandalas that we are familiar with are the ones made by Buddhists. The objective for some is to become one with the universe through the mandala. Although not everyone can reach that state, many still use it for meditation purposes. Mandalas can tell a lot about the person who made it. Some create it to know about their journey through life, where they’ve been, and show their path in life. A mandala is a tool people use that affects them significantly spiritually.
Mandalas used in meditation To meditate with a mandala, you first have to find a mandala that draws you in. The mandala is meant to be so aesthetically pleasing that it draws in your mind and blocks off any disturbing or ill thoughts. This allows the peaceful and spiritual essence that is blocked by the thoughts to come out freely. By observing the mandala, you seem to tune into a higher level of your consciousness, similar to reaching a hypnotic state. Your mind is able to slow down from the swarm of thoughts in our head that stops us from being able to meditate.
The therapeutic benefits of mandalas Mandalas have now become a form of therapy for some. Just the act of coloring or making a mandala is very therapeutic and symbolic for the individual. By drawing or painting one, you are reflecting your inner self. It’s beautiful to see the result, and it’s as important as what was done to get there. The journey you took to reach your destination is what really hits you and is why mandala art is so useful.
Mandalas and stress reduction Mandalas are able to reduce stress because of the process done to create or paint one. Mandalas reflect the person making them. Allowing yourself to freely make anything on the mandala will give you a sense of freedom. Drawing enables people to relax and let their creativity flow.
Mandalas and mental health Mandalas have been shown to help with a lot of the issues we usually deal with mentally. Anxiety has become an issue for many individuals, and it is hard to deal with. Thankfully, making mandalas is an excellent way to deal with anxiety and stress and reduce it. Drawing and coloring are known to be a very calming experience. This allows users to clear out anxiety from our minds and release our creativity.
Does symmetry on mandalas help the brain/mind? The symmetry in mandalas draws our attention to the center. The design that originates from the center can really captivate your mind. This causes all the “monkey thoughts” to dissipate until your mind is clear. This is why mandalas are used by many for meditation to establish a sacred space 25
for themselves. This helps with the mind, seeing as teenagers and adults seem to have so much on their minds. Using a mandala to meditate can let the stress we build up from our minds out.
Meditative Effects of Mandalas As we practice meditation, we teach our bodies and mind a new state of consciousness. In that state of mind, we can learn new things and change how we are. You can do this with regular meditation, but using a mandala makes it easier. A mandala is a circle with patterns or designs originating from the center. By finding a mandala that appeals to you, observing it can clear your mind and shift into a state of meditation. This meditation is different because the mandala brings you to a state of releasing alpha waves. The alpha waves make you more creative and allow you to learn things faster than you usually would.
Painting in mandalas A lot of artists become enthralled in their artwork because of their passion for art. While painting may be their passion, it is not the only reason some paint. Painting is also a form of therapy used to cope with stress, depression and anxiety. It works as a good distraction and gives you a canvas to let loose your emotions and thoughts. It is an excellent way to cope; it has been integrated with other methods to improve its effectiveness. One approach is by painting mandalas. It is also used in art therapy to have you project yourself onto the mandalas, reflecting yourself in your creation.
Gratitude I want to dedicate part of this book to gratitude. On some pages, you will find a space where you can write things that you are grateful for. You can use those pages as your gratitude journal or as an experiment. Before you paint the mandala on the right, write a list of things you feel grateful for today. They can be significant events or smaller. Give thanks before you start painting and see what how the mandala connects with you. Gratitude has been proven to: • Enhance empathy and reduce aggression • Improve physical and psychological health • Help to sleep better • Increase mental strength • Improve relationships
Gratitude & Manifestation “Gratitude is a powerful motion to use for manifesting because normally we feel gratitude after we receive something. So the emotional signature of gratitude means it already happened. When you are thankful, or you feel appreciation, you are in the ultimate state to receive. When you embrace gratitude, your body as the unconscious mind will begin to believe it is that future reality in the present moment”. 26
-Dr. Joe Dispenza from his book Becoming Supernatural
Look around and see all the things that surround you. You may be surprised by everything you already have in life. Be thankful and let your blessings multiply. I’m grateful to help you get inspired to explore your creativity, that this book became a reality, and that you are holding it.

What I’ve learned: We are not seeking to become “more spiritual.” We are spiritual beings living a physical experience by choice. Some of us are just beginning to remember who we really are and why we’re here. We are here for the joy. If we want peace in the world, we need to find our inner peace first and spread the belief that it is possible. Silvana A.

Gratitude These are the Gratitude pages. Gratitude is a powerful emotion that you can experience any time you choose to. I suggest using these pages before painting the mandala and seeing what happens or as a gratitude journal. You can fill the whole page or write one sentence. The more you write, the higher your mind state will rise. Start your sentences like this:
I’m so happy and grateful now that
