SAVITA JASWANI ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO

CONTENTS I am a firm believer that we recite our designs from the natural around; the sun, the wind, the land and the resources which help us process a design both at building as well as at the city level. I evaluate myself as a person who chooses not to isolate a built structure from its surrounding environment on a micro as well as macro level. I have evolved as a disciple, who feels that the natural parameters specific to a site decide the form and scale of a building in any context. This relationship in which a designer accepts the course of nature in the form of climate, topography, resources and material, produces an outstanding and socially responsive results. - Savita Jaswani

STRATOS Luxury Living Stratos bridges the gap between contemporary architecture and timeless living. What a chateau is to the countryside, the hotel particulier is to the city. In the elite arrondissements of Paris, the upper echelons of 17th century French society lived in their own private mansion-exclusive, elegant and architectural. Inspired by the essence of the hotel particulier and informed by the context of Bangalore. A minimalist aesthetics replaces classic influences, technology pushes the structural envelope and function is chisseled into a seemingly free floating form with a striking interplay of concrete and crystal. An unembellished yet imposing concrete pillar form the structure core of stratos. Floor plates are suspended from beams that extend from the top of the pillar. The cantilevered construction lifts the building off the ground, freeing up space at the ground level and giving stratos its distinctive floating form. The faรงade is an alternating rhythm of floor plates and clear glass.Natural light pours in, allowing an enhanced perception of space and a close dialogue with lush trees that flank the property. While glass walls blur the line between the inside and the outside, multiple layers of screens afford privacy and keep sun and sound in or out, as the situation demands.

PRADEEP KOTHARI Mansion One would be surprised to stumble upon this heaven of greenery in the middle of the city.During the site visit, I came across two very important elements -SPACE and LIGHT.The sheer heights of the spaces give one a feeling of being within a monument.Carving in intermediate green pockets within the design, open to sky and all environmental factors gives one a sense of always being in the outdoors. The seamless transition from the inside to the outside provides this very positive vibration of being amongst nature. The green pockets allows for more surfaces to be exposed to the exterior hence in Creasing the quality of light and adding a much needed therapeutic space.‘The green carved into the moss’. MASS; Arriving at massing it was very clear that Green would dominate the spaces. The massing to accommodate the program was thus seen as the sculpture carved into the whole site. VOID; Since green spaces was considered most crucial in this project, much emphasis was laid on these ‘encased’ courtyards. SCALE; The scale of the structure is kept quite large to magnify the feeling of openness within. THE Palette; The palette is kept very neutral yet full of character. The overall white moss of the residence sits harmoniously on the green all around and within.

Greams Road, Chennai, India 2040 sq.mt.

Considering the implications of Vastu Shastra( science of architecture) on the planning, Entrance to the site from the north and entrance into the structure from the North-east quadrant, location of the kitchen at the south-east quadrant and master bedroom in the south-west quadrant according to the study.

MARQ Experience Centre An experience can either be wanted and desired or totally unexpected and magical. In both cases it is a moment of joy, astonishment and discovery.Art and craft are the overall soul and spirit of the experience as each and every part of the center is infilled with refinement and elegance, through simple detailing. MASS & VOID; The building envelop, punctured with glass boxes for the entrance, the meeting and administrative part. The quality of natural light coming from the roof as well as the steel trusses, the double and triple height spaces inspires. So we propose a journey through the entire space. A journey in length and width and height. Spread over the length of the entire space. There are three free standing screens holding large views of the project and creating multiple pockets of events and information. Experience center is vast in size, contemporary in aesthetic and its flexibility proposes a multiple use from meditative to collective. The subtle presence of nature, the clear statement of business transparency and the attention to detail and perfection through art and simplicity of industrial design and decisions makes marq experience center not only an information and marketing center but a destination and a great gate to the marq project. The entire space is a place to meet and sit and discuss. There are formal discussions rooms but these can be held anywhere at any moment; around the large model of the project, at the lounge or around a sculpture. There is a cafĂŠ, there is a material library, and there is art and light.

KOTECHA PRASAD Artist Residence If I would be an artist I would need a very peaceful environment to create especially in a chaotic place like India. I would need a retreat, a place where I can isolate myself and a place where I can Meet with other artists. COMMON-WEALTH VILLAGE Multi-Storey Housing The housing proposal was inspired from tree like growth and its characteristics thus rising on a hilly landscaped plaza. Aim of the Stusio was to understand the local building rules stipulated by the government as well as the commercial aspects involved in the building industry. Hence then it was required to follow the required bye-laws aiming to achieve the maximum floor area ratio possible. The blocks are oriented in such a way that it admits the prevelent tropical south -western breeze and natural light inside each apartment. Balconies for each apartment has a view towards the existing green land. The entrance to the apartment is narrowed down and the central space is also used for the garden, gatherings and other common amenities. A cluster for economically weaker section(EWS) is also designed such as they do have the required facilities without disturbing the residents. also, Basement parking is planned below the open ground with skylights and a club for the society.

LANDSCAPE STUDIO Work Compilation Where Urban meets nature is where I work. As a young teen I began helping my mother around the yard creating flowerbeds and thinking acout what we can put in bed to complement its surroundings. Then when the plants kept dying I began to research how to make planst grow. There and then i found my interest in Landscape. Most of the people understand that Landcsape Architecture is something to do with planting schemes and laying out space between buildings. Certainly both of these activities are involved but its much broader than that. It induce a refined character and serene feature to built mass that contributes significantly to well-being of both humans and environment. Followed are few projects with landscape design practiced during my bachelor studio’s.
