MINI SKEIN OF YARN Cut two 12” (30.5 cm) lengths of any color yarn and set aside. Hold four fingers extended and slightly spread. Wrap yarn color of your choice around fingers 50 times. While wraps are still on fingers, slip one of the 12” (30.5 cm) length under the wraps and slip the wraps off your fingers. Knot 12” (30.5 cm) length tightly around wraps. Hold wraps by tie and smooth out yarn so that it hangs straight. Slip second tie through opposite end of wraps and knot around wraps tightly. Apply a moderate amount of craft glue to knots and let dry. Weave ends through skein and trim. Set aside. Label Make a copy of the mini Red Heart label. If needed, reduce image size to fit mini skein. Then print image on color printer. To reinforce label use clear cellophane tape placed carefully over image or image can be laminated. Trim label width and length to fit skein, wrap around middle of skein and tape securely.
FINISHING Note: Whenever possible, use yarn tails still attached to pieces to sew the pieces in place. Using photograph as a guide, sew arms to shoulders of snowman near beginning of cardigan sweater. Sew hat to head. Sew nose to lower portion of head. With sewing needle and black thread, sew eyes above nose, and sew four black buttons evenly spaced down the button band of the cardigan sweater.
Snowman’s Knitting Needles: With craft scissors, cut the bamboo skewers to desired length (about 8” (20.5 cm) long). Glue a bead on the cut end of each skewer for knitting needle tops. Place one snowman’s knitting needle in palm of each hand. Sew each hand closed around the needle. Place small amount of glue where hand grips the hook for extra security. Tie scarf around neck, so that bind-off edge is facing the snowman’s knitting needles. Tack scarf in place using matching yarn, as desired. Insert the tip of each needle into about one half of the stitches on the bindoff edge to look as though snowman is in the middle of knitting a row. Glue the stitches to the needles using craft glue. Tie the long tail of bind-off edge to one end of the mini skein and weave loose end into the skein.

Notes 1. Snowman is worked in one piece beginning at top of head. 2. Head and bottom section are worked in rounds of single crochet. The mid-section, which resembles a cardigan sweater, is worked back and forth in rows of a pattern stitch, known as Granule stitch. 3. Arms are worked separately and sewn to snowman. 4. Snowman is stuffed using a knee-high stocking to maintain the roundness of the snowman sections. 5. Gauge is not critical for this project. Work tightly so the pieces are firm and the stuffing does not show between stitches. 6. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color.

Christmas Village This small crocheted village adds nostalgic charm to your holiday decorating. Use it on the mantel, with a train set or on an entry table. Children will enjoy playing with this village without fear of breaking anything! Small building measures about 3½” (9 cm) tall. Large building measures about 5” (12.5 cm) tall. Church with steeple measures about 7” (18 cm) tall. Tree measures about 3½” (9 cm) tall. Notes 1. Village consists of three small buildings, one large building, one church, and five pompom trees. 2. Gauge is not critical. However, work tightly to ensure that stuffing does not show between stitches. 3. Buildings are made from seven pieces each: Two side walls, front wall, back wall, floor, and two roof pieces. 4. Church is made the same as the Buildings with the addition of a Steeple and Cross. 5. Windows and Doors are worked separately and sewn to the Buildings and Church. 6. Trees are made from Pompoms that are stacked on top of a Base and glued together. Special Stitch sc2tog = [Draw up a loop in next st] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Continued...

ASSEMBLY Weave in ends. Step 1: Sew a circle motif on each triangle. Step 2: At top of each triangle, sew 3 pearl beads in a vertical row. Step 3: With right sides held together, sew triangle sides together. Turn tree right side out and stuff lightly (do not overstuff). Step 4: With sewing needle and thread, sew short edges of scallop trim #1 together, then sew trim to bottom edge of tree. Sew short edges of scallop trim #2 together, place trim on tree, and sew to nearest round. Step 5: With sewing needle and thread, sew bottom edges together, leaving a ½” (1.5 cm) opening in the center for the dowel. Step 6: Apply glue to ⅔ of dowel and insert in tree, leaving remainder of dowel for bucket. Allow glue to dry thoroughly
throughout all assembly and finishing steps before handling. Step 7: Apply glue to outside of bucket near top edge and glue bucket trim in place around. Allow to dry, then tie bow around trim. You may want to apply glue to an inconspicuous area of the knot to prevent it from unraveling and to loops to prevent drooping.
FINISHING TREE 1 Insert a Styrofoam ball in the bucket. Apply glue around the ball where it meets the inside of bucket and allow to dry. With a pin, mark the center of the ball. Lightly mark 1½” (4 cm) from the bottom edge of dowel and insert dowel into the ball up to this mark. Carefully remove the dowel and fill the hole with glue. With right side facing the tree, slide skirt onto dowel, then reinsert the dowel into the hole. Ensure that the tree is standing straight, slide the skirt down to the ball, and allow glue to dry thoroughly.

Wreath Ornaments These knit wreath ornaments are perfect for the tree or to use instead of a bow on your gifts. Choose any shade of this jumbo yarn, make I-cord and then braid it into a wreath.
What you will need: RED HEART® Grande™: 1 ball 110 Aran Double Point Knitting Needles: Two 10mm [US 15] 1 yd (.9 m) of 1” (2.5 cm) wide green ribbon for each ornament, sewing needle and thread, binder clip, yarn needle GAUGE: Gauge is not necessary for this project.

Ornament measures 5” (13 cm) in diameter. Special Technique I-cord = Cast on 2 sts, k2, * do not turn work, slide both sts back to other end of needle and place needle with stitches in left hand. The yarn will be coming from the left stitch. Pulling the yarn so that it is snug, knit the two stitches from the left needle. Repeat from * until I-cord measures indicated length. Cut yarn leaving 12” (30.5 cm) tail. Pull through both sts. Notes Ornaments are made by knitting long I-cords which are then folded, braided and sewn together. One ball of yarn is enough to make 3 ornaments.
ORNAMENT Make an I-cord 50” (127cm) long. Fold I-cord into thirds. Clamp binder clip onto one end (one fold + one loose end). Begin braiding loosely, pulling out the loose end when it becomes tangled. At the end, pull the loose end through the loop created by the fold. Sew through this end to secure using sewing needle and thread. Remove binder clip and sew through the end to secure.
FINISHING Sew ends together forming a circle. Flatten the wreath so the braid lays flat. Make a bow with the ribbon and sew over the seam. Hanging Loop Sew one yarn end to back of ornament seam to form a loop. Weave in other yarn end. Reversible Wave Throw Cuddle up in front of the fireplace wrapped in this wonderful wave stitch throw. It has the added advantage of being reversible! And it’s the perfect gift for someone who has everything! Throw measures 44” wide x 56” long [112 cm x 142 cm]. SPECIAL STITICHES K2tog = Knit 2 sts together. ssk = Slip, slip, knit. Slip next two stitches one at a time knitwise to right needle, insert point of left needle through front of sts, knit these sts together through the back loop. Sl 1 = Slip 1 st purlwise with yarn to the back at beginning of each row. K1tbl = Knit 1 st through the back loop. P1tbl = Purl 1 st through the back loop. NOTE Throw is worked back and forth in rows on circular needles to accommodate the large number of stitches. Do not join. When working Wave Pattern, the stitch count remains the same on every row—125 sts. TIPS & HINTS Join a new ball of yarn when there are approximately 6” [15 cm] of yarn left from the old ball, also leaving a 6” [15 cm] tail of yarn with the joined yarn. Weave these ends in neatly on the wrong side of the fabric in a zigzag pattern for a few inches, and then trim off excess.
THROW Cast on 125 sts. Work in Wave Pattern until piece measures 56” [142 cm] from cast on edge—246 Rows total. Continued...
