How to Curate a
WINE CELLAR The idea of owning your own wine cellar sounds incredible. For avid wine drinkers, having a variety of wines that you like, for all types of occasions, at your fingertips is a dream for any wine enthusiast.
Curating a wine cellar is a personal endeavor to develop a collection of wines that fits an individual’s tastes + lifestyle. It requires hundreds of hours of research + a wealth of knowledge to determine what varietals appeal to one’s palate + pairs appropriately with food. With over 10,000 varietals of wine grapes + 65,000 wine producers around the world choosing the right wine can be a daunting task.
In order to have a personalized selection of wines one must consider several factors. Some of these are listed below.
SIZE OF COLLECTION How much space for wine storage is a consideration. If you enjoy wine regularly for different occasions throughout the year then you need a variety of wines. Collecting wine for special occasions takes up space as well. This takes up a good amount of space. How you manage your inventory can get tricky.
WINE FOR SPECIFIC OCCASIONS How often do you enjoy wine? If wine is a part of your everyday life then one must consider appropriate selections for nightly dinners, casual gatherings, + special occasions. Each situation requires an understanding of the appropriate wine. It can be a confusing task.

WINE STORAGE
What varietals of wine have you enjoyed in the past? Is there something that appeals to your palate when drinking your preferred wine? What have you read?
Wine is ideally stored at 55 degrees + a relative humidity (RH) of 50 – 70. No UV light should interact with the horizontally stored bottles. How long wine can be aged and held is always important to remember. There are several options to store wine
BUDGET The cost of keeping a proper selection of wines is always a consideration. Having 10 or 12 varietals in a collection is not uncommon. This can add up quickly, so having a budget before you begin is always a good idea.

SPOTLIGHTS The James Lane Post Curated Wines and Cellars was honored to be featured by Hamptons Premier Magazine, The James Lane Post. They discussed their origins in high-profile event production and their unique vision for curating personal wine cellars. Here's a peek at what they had to say, “It’s kind of like one stop shopping for wine,” said Paitchel, as she explained how they wanted to make it easy for clients, so that they can simply enjoy the wine selection that has been curated for them. “Having had a home in the Hamptons for more than 30 years, I understand the lifestyle and what people want in their homes and how they entertain,” said Paitchel. During the time of Covid-19, when many people are entertaining in their homes for small groups, they also make sure to have the go-to wine for every night, so that clients can always “experience the culture of wine.”
