Baden-Baden is one of Europe’s most beautiful and stylish spas and this summer we will visit along with very special guest stars from the Metropolitan Opera in New York, including music director Yannick Nezet-Seguin and the world-famous sopranos Renee Fleming and Joyce DiDonato. The town is surrounded by the Black Forest and has magnificent parks, gardens and open spaces. The Lichtenaler Allee cuts through the town, a verdant and arcadian oasis of trees and shrubs along the River Oos, atributary of the Rhine. With its very smart and comfortable Festspielhaus, opened in 2000 in the town’s former ducal railway station, Baden-Baden is now firmly at the centre of musical Europe with performances of the highest international standard given throughout the year.
the itinerary
We stay at the 4* Hotel Roomers, perfectly located opposite the Festpielhaus. We will include a tour of Baden-Baden with visits to the Festspielhaus, transformed into one of Europe’s largest and most glamorous music venues, the house where Johannes Brahms spent many summer holidays and the Frieder Burda Museum with its collection of Classical Modernism and contemporary art. We make a visit to Schloss Rastatt, the oldest and grandest Baroque palace. Situated on the Upper Rhine, it was designed in 1698 by Domenico Rossi for the ruler of Baden-Baden. A visit to historic Strasbourg, with its charming canals, fine architecture and museums is also included.
