Hello Trojans, Wow I can't believe May just passed. I still feel that it was just yesterday when I got inducted as your Lieutenant Governor but all the activities in this month made May pass so quickly. In May, academically many took AP Tests, studied for SAT, and figured out the new Common Core Test. Socially, many attended their school Prom, celebrated Mother's Day, and spent time with their friends. With all of these activities, many took their time to serve our community, attend Officer Training Conference, and spend time with their fellow Trojans in our end of the year Banquet. This is incredible. I'm so proud of all of you! All that you are doing is preparing yourselves for college, the working world, and improving our community. This is what Key Club is all about: Inspiring the youth to become leaders in their community. Continue the good work everyone! As an ending statement if any need help on anything don't be shy to call, text, or message me. I'm here to serve you all. Alex Tellez

Hi Fellow Trojans! I hope you all had an awesome week of AP Testing and strived for that five! Regardless of all the stress that these tests have caused, I’m proud of all of you for continuing your service through Key Club. I am looking forward to being your new Divisional News Editor for 2014-15. It’s going to be an amazing year, I just know it. Although finals are coming up soon, it’s no excuse to stop volunteering. So make sure you try to attend all of the events and turn in all of your articles and visuals on time! Sarina Sylavong

Kiwanis One Day Recap

THE HOMES AND JOBS SUMMIT Sean Ezenwugo | Edison High School On April 26th, club members from Edison and Fresno High helped out at the 2nd annual Home and Job Fair held in the Fresno Fairgrounds. This event was enacted with the help of club member Omar Ceja, whose family hosts the event. There were over twenty different outlets, including “State Farm Insurance” and “AAA insurance. “Various members took part in tasks such as passing out flyers and making poster advertisements. One volunteer station at the fair that packed a punch was the registration table. The club members exemplified social skills by asking each entering participant about their personal information. Edison club member Angela Moreno was a stellar by translating for participants who spoke a different language. Later, the volunteers distributed food and drinks to every work station at the fair. Not only did the members help out the employers and house retailers; they were well-fed and experienced different types of entertainment, such as getting the opportunity to watch a Junior High drum line play a performance. The whole event was a success, and the volunteers are excited to help out at the Home and Job Fair next year.

Mother’s Day Marathon Sarina Sylavong | Edison High School On May 10th, a group of students from the Edison Key Club went to Woodward Park to volunteer at the eleventh annual Mother’s Day Run. The event was sponsored by the Greater Madera Kiwanis Club and featured a 10K run with a two mile walk/run. This marathon helped raise money that will benefit breast cancer research and many programs that serve the children of Madera County. Our volunteers like Nike Keovilay, Sidney Ezenwugo, Eric Reynoso, and Ruth Hann got up at six in the morning to help set up the water stations all around the park. At the water stations they provided the runners with water and Gatorade and cheered them on to continue their marathon with triumph. The helpers had lots of fun and helped raise money for their trip to ICON. They cannot wait to attend and hope to have the chance to volunteer again.
