EXAM INFORMATION To all our SBA Parents – Welcome to the final week of the 2010-2011 school year. I want to thank everyone for helping to make it as successful as it has been – hopefully for your family as well as for others. We really do need and appreciate each other! Thank you for all your efforts, kindnesses and support – not only of the events and activities that happen here at SBA but all of those that don’t really benefit anyone here on this campus – Japan, refugees, downtown Memphis. Thank you!!! We wanted to include some information about this final week that we hope will help everyone finish this 2010-11 school year as smoothly as possible. Exams – Exams will run Tuesday, May 24 thru Friday, May, 27 and will include two per day. The first exam of the day begins at 7:45 a.m. they will be administered in the following order: Tues – 8th period then 7th Weds – 6th period then 3rd Thurs – 5th period then 2nd Fri – 4th period then 1st Exam timeframe - Exams are 1:40 in length with a 20-minute break in between. To accommodate all our students, that break period will be held in the gym so students will not have access to drinks and / or snacks. Exam dismissal rules - Regardless of how long it takes a student to actually complete his/her exam, students are required to stay in their exam classrooms for the entire testing period with dismissal each day scheduled for 11:35 a.m. (Students may wish to bring additional study materials or a book to read if they think they might finish an exam early.)

PLEASE NOTE THE ONLY EXCEPTION- On the last day of exams, we will allow students who have finished their last exam to be dismissed at 10:50 a.m. However, so as not to interrupt any other students taking their exams, we are not going to allow students to go to their lockers until after the last exam is completed. They’ll be welcome to hang out in the Dining Hall – or what we would suggest most – would be there for them to take their stuff with them to that Final Exam. Uniforms - Students are required to be in regular uniform to take exams. Exam Weighting – For everyone’s information, these upcoming semester exams count 20% of the semester grade. 3rd quarter and 4th quarter grades count 40% each. Make-up exams (for illness or TSSAA state tournament athletes) These will be given beginning Tuesday, May 31st. Students should report to Dr. Elizabeth Brock beginning at 8:00 a.m. Lunch periods - No student need be present on campus for whichever period is their lunch period but if they need to be on campus, they can study in the Dining Hall. Library Hours – During exam week, the Library will close after exams at the following times: - Monday: 4:30pm - Tuesday-Thursday: 1:00pm - Friday: Not open after exams MBS Textbook Buyback Info - SBA will host a book buyback day for returning your textbooks to MBS Direct. This will take place on Friday, May 27th in the Dining Hall. The necessary details for the MBS Textbook Buyback are on the following page.

May 2011 MBS Book Buy-Back Guidelines SBA will host the annual MBS Book Buyback Day this Friday, May 27 from 1 – 4 pm in our Dining hall. Students can reuse their Bibles and MLA Handbooks each year, so you might want to keep those. There are a few steps to take PRIOR to actually turning in the books. IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND BOOK BUYBACK ON FRIDAY, MAY 27TH Please go back to www.mbsDirect.net a few days after EZ Drop buyback has ended. At that time, students can complete the traditional online buyback process, complete with free shipping. IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR BOOKS FROM MBS AND WANT TO UTILIZE THE LOYALTY BUYBACK BONUS: Please note that you only get one loyalty bonus, so be sure to put all of the books you want to sell back on the same quote. If a family has lost or misplaced their quote, it is important they access the ―My Account‖ section of the Virtual Bookstore to reprint it. To keep Customer Loyalty, they must reprint the quote and not create a new one. To maximize their buyback amount, families must only create a quote when it is absolutely necessary. If a family lost its Guaranteed Buyback quote, they must wait 24 hours to create a new buyback quote to ensure Guaranteed Buyback funds. Go to the SBA website—sbaeagles.org and click on Quicklinks and then Bookstore. 1) Click on Sell My Books. 2) Login to Online Buyback if you purchased the books from MBS---(you will need to know the email address and password that you used when you ordered the books) 3) You then click on the books that you want to sell back and follow the instructions until you print you buyback quote. 4) You need to bring the buyback quote sheets (two copies) and the books you want to sell to the Dining Hall on Friday, May 27, 2011, from 1-4 p.m. IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR BOOKS FROM OTHER SOURCES AND WANT TO SELL THOSE TO MBS: Go to the SBA website—sbaeagles.org and click on Quicklinks and then Bookstore. 1) Click on Sell My Books. 2) Click on New Customer and enter the ISBN numbers. Follow the instructions until you print your quote. 3) You need to bring the buyback quote sheets (two copies) and the books you want to sell to the Dining Hall on Friday, May 27, 2011, from 1-4 p.m. MBS has some guidelines that should be considered before you decide to sell back your books: 1) Both the front and back covers must be fully intact. The spine cannot be significantly weakened or torn. Normal wear associated with rounding of corners is acceptable. 2) No more than five pages may be written on in study guides. Excessive highlighting is not acceptable. Writing or drawing on the sides of the book is also not acceptable. 3) Books that are disfigured due to water or fluid exposure are deemed not acceptable. 4) Books with any missing or torn pages are not acceptable. Should you choose to buy your books from other sources/families: Below is a list of books that SBA will not be using during the 2011-12 school year: (MBS may buy these back for use with another school). These are the books we are not reusing: 1238 1300 1310 1322 1323 1367 1377 1358 1360 1333

May, 2011 Dear Parents, I cannot believe that another school year is ending. It seems like just a week or two ago that your children came to us with sharpened pencils and eager faces ready to begin a new school year, anxious for a new start. They grew, they learned, they poked one more hole in the cocoon in their effort to fly free. They took one step closer to becoming the person God intends them to be. You took one step closer to letting them go. You took that step in the right direction, you sent them to a Catholic school. I thank you for the trust you placed in us by ensuring that your child be educated in an environment of truth, academic rigor, moral values and love. The academic preparation received is a solid foundation for the future. The spiritual preparation is a solid foundation for eternity. Our world needs children prepared for both. Our world needs your children. I am grateful to you for your support and commitment. It is you, their parents, their first teachers, who first opened their eyes to the world around them, who opened their ears to truth, their mind to knowledge and imagination, their hearts to compassion and love and their soul to God. I am grateful that you have chosen us to assist you in the education of your child. I wish you a restful summer, but realize that it may not always be possible, now that school is out. Instead, my prayer for you is: May God give you the strength you need to endure the boundless energy of children on summer vacation. May God give you the wisdom of simplicity when you plan activities for your family and your summer vacation. May God give you peaceful times of solitude to pray, to dream or just to rest your eyes. May God give you the joy of experiencing just being a family. You have my prayers and best wishes for a wonderful summer. Sincerely,

Dr. Mary C. McDonald Superintendent of Schools
