Saint Benedict High School is pleased to kick off our 2011-12 Lasting Legacies Annual Fund drive! You have probably already received your letter and brochure in the mail. SBA has set a few lofty goals that we will need your help to achieve. Because the Annual Fund helps us to sustain our campus programs and balance our school budget, we would like to raise $200,000 this year. With this goal in mind, we will also be able to contribute to our tuition assistance program and campus technology upgrades. In addition to the financial goal, another objective is to increase in contributors. We realize there are financial challenges facing many of us, but we urge you to give what you can. No gift is too small and every gift is needed and appreciated. 100% participation from our families would be terrific! Our Annual Fund helps us to keep our tuition cost one of the lowest in Memphis. To make your online contribution now, please click here. Thank you so much for considering a gift to Lasting Legacies. To take a look at the Annual Fund Summary for this past year, click here.

Red Ribbon Week This week, SADD will recognize Red Ribbon Week here at SBA. Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena, an 11-year veteran of the DEA assigned to the Guadalajara, Mexico, office. He was on the trail of the country’s biggest marijuana and cocaine traffickers. In Agent Camarena was extremely close to unlocking a multi-billion dollar drug pipeline. On February 7, 1985, he was kidnapped, (along with his pilot Captain Alfredo Zavala-Avelar) brutally tortured, and murdered by Mexican drug traffickers. His tragic death opened the eyes of many Americans to the dangers of drugs and the international scope of the drug trade. (http://www.justice.gov/dea/ongoing/redribbon_factsheet.html) As a way to honor his sacrifice, Red Ribbon Week was established. This brings millions of people together to raise awareness regarding the need for alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention, early intervention, and treatment services. It is the largest, most visible prevention awareness campaign observed annually in the United States. (http://www.redribboncoalition.com/index.php/history)
SADD activities for the week include: Posters promoting the drug free message posted around the school Drug free quote for the morning announcements Drug free prayers that the SADD students chose for use in the classroom A drug free chain for students to sign during lunch
