Re-Enrollment An email was sent to current families on February 14 with the online 2014-15 Enrollment Form for families to re-enroll and reserve your child's spot for this fall. Please look for this email! If you didn't receive the email or could not open the Enrollment Form link, please contact Ann O’Leary, olearya@sbaeagles.org, and we will make sure we have the correct email address, etc, and re-send another email with the enrollment form link and information. Please Note: Tuition Assistance: Limited funds are allocated based on need and are offered to families of registered students. To be considered, families must 1) complete the Enrollment process and 2) complete an online application through FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment at www.factstuitionaid.com by April 1, 2014. Again, our funds are limited and the award amounts typically range from $500-$600 per year.

SBA is hosting District Attorney Weirich Wednesday, Feb. 26, 8:30 am – PUBLIC INVITED She will present a video about abuse of prescription and illegal drugs to adults at 8:30 am. There will be a separate presentation for our SBA students at 10:00 am. Amy P. Weirich District Attorney General Amy Weirich became District Attorney in January of 2011. She was appointed by Governor Bill Haslam and then elected on August 3, 2012, to continue serving as Shelby County’s first female District Attorney. General Weirich is a veteran prosecutor who started serving in the Shelby County D.A.’s office in 1991. Over the past 20 years, she has served in many leadership roles in the office, including Deputy District Attorney, Chief Prosecutor of the Gang and Narcotics Prosecution Unit and Division Leader for the Special Prosecution Unit in criminal court. General Weirich has received many honors for her skills in the courtroom, including the Board of Directors’ Trial Award for Outstanding Advocacy in Capital Cases from the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation. She has been a frequent lecturer at training seminars for the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference and the National District Attorneys Association. She is a recipient of the Bobby Dunavant Public Servant Award for non-elected officials from the Rotary Club of Memphis East as well as the Association for Women Attorneys Marion Griffin-Frances Loring Award. She serves on various boards including the Memphis-Shelby Crime Commission, the Western District of Tennessee Multi-Agency Gang Unit, The Family Safety Center, the Memphis Child Advocacy Center and the YMCA. A graduate of Germantown High School, General Weirich earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a law degree from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis. General Weirich and her husband, Chuck, have four children. She is an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church. On February 6, we will hold an Elective Fair during all 3 lunch periods for students to inquire about their elective classes for next fall. That evening, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., we will have an AP/Honors Fair. All students and parents interested in AP or Honors classes should attend.

Project Graduation Graduation may seem so far off, if you are the parent of a freshman, but it is really amazing how that event comes barreling towards you with each year completed. Even if you are the parent of a sophomore or junior, it may be one of those events that you decide can be tackled when it is on your doorstep. To some extent that is true, but thinking ahead to the festivities that surround that event, and the safety that you desire for your child's celebrating is the stuff of our prayers today. Many of you are familiar with Project Graduation, but you may not be aware of the planning that must be done in order to supply the celebrating and safety that your child will enjoy when that time comes. We have been blessed to have a couple that have headed up this event for several years, and it has operated like a well oiled machine. They have left us with a wonderful structure and detailed instructions for the 2 fundraising events and the grand lock-in which follows graduation. Would you consider stepping up for next year and leading a team to ensure that Project Graduation continues to serve the upcoming graduating classes? Ideally a team of 2 or 3 could divide leading in the responsibilities of Trivia Night and Project Graduation. If at least two of those parents come from the freshman or sophomore class, then only one leader needs to be replaced each year and the experience of the remaining chairmen assures a smoother operation each year. Please consider serving in this role next year, but don't wait until next year to get involved. We could use your help now, and the experience will provide some confidence when the senior parents that are serving this year rotate off. Contact Beth Jackson, aubreyandbeth@att.net Donna Moore, dmoow@bellsouth.net, or Shannon Schuhlein, shineserf1@aol.com to get more information or learn how you can get involved now.
College Information for Juniors Your junior families are cordially invited to attend the Memphis Area Case Studies event! This event will be an invaluable opportunity for students and parents to sit on a mock admissions committee and learn how college admissions counselors really make decisions. Each “committee will be led by a college admissions representative who will help navigate the participants through this decision-making process. The event will conclude with a mini college fair. Here are the details: Sunday, March 2, 2014 3:00-5:00pm (check-in begins at 2:30pm) Rhodes College 2000 N Parkway Memphis, TN 38112 To register and for more information, please visit www.macsmemphis.org or email macsmemphis@gmail.com.
