A note from Mrs. Morris: I would like to thank everyone who came out for the blessing of our new bleachers on Friday night. We apologize for the unfortunate microphone malfunction, but at least it started working in time for the most important part of the evening -‐ the Blessing! We thank Father Robert Marshall, Pastor, St. Francis of Assisi Church, for his inspiring words and for blessing the bleachers for us. We also would like to thank Mrs. Janet Donato, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Mr. Chris Koch, Chief Operating Officer, Diocese of Memphis and Mr. Bill Hecht, Diocesan Director of Facilities and Risk Management for joining us for our special evening. I would like to share a few words that I had planned to share on Friday evening prior to the Blessing. “This Bleacher Expansion is a gift from God as are the many gifts that He has given each of us. We will ask Him to bless this structure so that all of us – players and fans alike – might be reminded each time we gather why we are here and how blessed we are to be able to do what we love to do. The St Benedict story is a relatively brief one – one just sending out our 25th graduating class in the Spring of 2013. But from its inception, it has been a story that has been full of people stepping up to make us better. We’ve been blessed by individuals and families who had the resources and generosity to help – some in large ways and we’ve also been blessed by those who help in smaller ways and some in prayers and sweat equity. The Home Field Bleachers is a project made possible by MANY people – you know who you are – some who have made this possible will never have a child play on this field nor will they ever sit in these bleachers. But, they saw the need and helped. To all who made a gift for this project, we thank you.” We appreciate all you’ve done to get us off to a great start and look forward to seeing everyone at our Meet the Teacher night tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 27. This year, we will all go straight to first period instead of gathering in the gym first. Classrooms will be open at 6:45 pm and first period will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. Schedules will be emailed out tomorrow, Tuesday morning, as well as a map of the campus. Have a great week, Sondra Morris SBA

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED! Dear Families: St. Benedict will be hosting two exchange students from Germany this year, and they are looking for two families to host them for the 2013/14 school year. Mathis Farwick and Florian Pundmann are coming to the United States to experience the American way of life first hand, learn about the American culture, spend their senior year at St. Benedict, and graduate with the Class of 2014. They are travelling under the auspices of Christian Youth Exchange, a non-‐profit organization based out of Huntsville, Alabama. We encourage host parents and siblings to include their students in all family activities and assign the same chores to them as they do to their own children. Mathis and Florian have had at least 6 years of English in school. They communicate fluently -‐ with a neat German accent, of course. They have full medical, dental, accidental, and private third party liability insurance with no co-‐pay or deductible. Their parents in Germany are responsible for paying tuition and school related fees. The students have a checking account with BBVA Compass Bank and will have their own spending money to cover all their personal expenses, such as clothing, cell phone usage, entertainment, school supplies, and similar expenses. They will be expected to buy their own lunch at school, or they may pack a lunch before they leave for school, whatever is customary in your home. We ask that host families provide their student with a room and regular meals. All other expenses are the German student's responsibility. We hope that your family will consider hosting one of these two students that are still without a home. Please visit the CYE website to learn more about Florian and Mathis. You will find the answers to all the questions we have ever been asked in the FAQ section. To access Mathis' and Florian's personal information, please enter the following user ID and password combination: Here's the link: http://en.cyegermany.com/index.php?goto=students/2014/portfolios For Mathis Farwick User ID: far Password: pxt8k3 For Florian Pundmann: User ID: pun Password: e1x236 Once you have successfully logged on, you will find a PDF file called "Student Portfolio" in the blue menu bar on the left of the screen. Download that PDF file to your computer for easy future access. It contains a lot of information about the students, including a picture album, several questionnaires, writing samples, letters of recommendation, and a school transcript from their previous school. We hope that your family will prayerfully consider inviting one of these wonderful students into your home for the 2013/14 school year. Please do not hesitate to contact CYE Student Coordinator David Burbank (256-‐714-‐1508) or CYE Program Director Martin Schulz with any questions you might have. Mr. Schulz be reached by e-‐mail (justschulz@web.de) or on his cell phone: 256-‐655-‐5514. You may also contact Ann O'Leary at St. Benedict at Auburndale High School at 901-‐260-‐2875. Thank you!
