SBA to start a Skeet/Trap Shooting Team! Team will be open to both males and females. If you are interested in being a part of this inaugural season, plan to attend an Informational Meeting on Wed, Oct 9 at 6 pm in DLC. All interested should bring a parent/guardian to the meeting with them.


SBA Notification System We will be testing the SBA Notification System this Wednesday, October 2, after school. This system will be used to notify families of any urgent message related to SBA. This Wednesday is ONLY A TEST.

Annual Fund Brochures All of our families should receive our 2013-14 Annual Fund Brochure in the mail this week. Please take a moment to look at it and consider a gift. In honor of our 25th Anniversary, we are challenging everyone to give $25 IN HONOR of someone who has had an impact on your years at SBA. Of course, if you can give more, that would be wonderful. We truly appreciate your participation and your consideration.


First Friday Adoration We are in need of parents to spend one hour in Adoration each first Friday of the month. October 4th is quickly approaching, and the 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. time slots are still vacant. Library News Please bring your student ID to school everyday. The library will be using a new scanning system to scan students in and out instead of having students write down their name, time in, and time out. This will ensure we know where students are at all times. This new procedure will begin October 1st, so please have your ID ready. If you have lost your ID card, please see Mrs. Miller or Ms. Cervetti in the main office. The cost for a replacement card is $10.

STUDENTS FOR LIFE ANNOUNCEMENTS 路 Those students wanting to go on the March for Life trip are reminded that completed forms and deposits are due tomorrow. Also, the Students for Life will be erecting the Cemetery for the Unborn tomorrow during activity period (if you have no other meetings) and after school until completed. 路 The Tree of Life will also be put up tomorrow near the dining hall and remain there for the month October. Please take a leaf and purchase the baby item written on it and bring the item back (unwrapped) with the leaf attached to the item and your name on it. This counts as one obligation to make the trip and may be used for other service hours if teachers allow. 路 SBA Students for Life will participate in the Life Chain on Sunday from 2-3 at Kirby & Poplar. HOME AND SCHOOL NEEDS YOU AND YOUR CLASS DUES! Your $40 donation to Home & School, not only benefits your school but your child as well. A portion of the dues is added to the class treasury that travels with your child through graduation, to help fund senior activities. ! A WEEKEND FOR HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMEN & SOPHOMORES

QUEST is a program, well-planned to meet high school freshmen and sophomores where they are, and lift them to a greater realization of their own self-worth and a deeper awareness of “the others” in their lives — both persons and God. It centers around a “three circles of love” theme — calling the young people to reflection and insight on love of self, love of neighbor and love of God. Shared activities, group exercises, talks and discussions, plus ritual expressions, are all brought together to give wholeness to this experience. It is important that the QUEST weekend is not an end in itself, but rather the beginning of a lifelong journey of love and relationship with Jesus Christ. QUEST is unique and is to be experienced only once!

FOR CHRISTIAN MATURITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS & SENIORS The SEARCH for Christian Maturity is a weekend experience in Christian Living. It is designed to help you, the young Christian, as you seek to develop and grow in relationship with Jesus Christ and with others. These goals are reached on the weekend through a process of talks, small group discussions, films, prayer and many other group experiences. The incredible thing about SEARCH is that it is a program FOR youth that is made possible BY the youth leaders who help make the weekend happen. It provides a unique opportunity for young people to come to know God as God works through the words, actions and lives of their peers. In this way, each SEARCHer is able to gain a greater understanding of the meaning of Christianity in his/her own life and in the world through the thoughts of others their own age who have already begun to find insights and meanings. Finally, it is important to understand that the SEARCH weekend is not an end in itself, but rather it is the beginning of a life-long journey of love and relationship with Jesus Christ.

2013 FATHER/SON PROGRAM For 12 - 15 year old boys

Must be accompanied by a parent or other supportive adult.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2013 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Saint Francis Hospital Auditorium 5959 Park Avenue The Father/Son Program explores God’s special gifts of human sexuality and fertility as well as the goodness and wonder of His plan for growing up and becoming a man of integrity. Topics include: the physical changes in a young man’s body as it prepares for fatherhood; emotional changes; acceptance of responsibility; the functions of the male and female reproductive systems; the sacredness of human life; appreciation and reverence for the gift of sexuality; the virtue of chastity; and a question and answer segment. Healthy dating relationships with a strong emphasis on friendship, respect and chastity are also discussed. The purpose of the program is to provide an atmosphere of love and learning to discuss the important topic of growing up and to establish a foundation for continued communication between parent and child. The program is presented primarily by male NFP Center volunteers who have set high moral standards for themselves. They will emphasize respect, strong character, integrity, understanding and appreciation for God’s gifts.

Pizza and refreshments will be served.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. Discount fee is $25.00 per family (non-refundable) if RECEIVED by October 23. AFTER October 23, the fee is $30.00 per family (non-refundable.) Rules of the Game 1. There will be ten rounds of ten questions. Most of the questions will be delivered orally. Some of the questions may be graphic or audio based. 2. A captain must be selected for each team.

 The Captain must insure the score sheet is printed clearly. the score table. 3. At the top of round 1 score sheet, please enter a prediction #. This will be used to break any ties. 4. You will have 2 minutes at the end of each round to turn in your answer sheet, at which time the door prize drawing will be held.

5. At the end of rounds 5 and 10, there will an intermission game to give the scorers a chance to finish scoring.

6. Correct answers will be given at the end of each round and the scores will be posted on the overhead. 7. Talk quietly with your team when discussing answers. Scratch paper is available on the tables to write and show your team mates answers.
