The Tree of Life is located near the dining hall and remains there for the month of October. Students may take a leaf, the baby item written on it and bring the item back (unwrapped) with the leaf attached to the item and with the student’s name on it. This counts as one obligation to make the trip and may be used for other service hours if teachers allow. Be sure to remind your child that these obligations must be completed by the end of October.

Governor’s School Governor's school applications are now available and can be picked up in the counseling office from Mrs. David or Mrs. Brannon. The deadline for Governor's school for the Arts is October 28. The deadline for all other schools is November 25th.

SBA Parent Connection News THANK YOU to everyone how volunteered and helped for last week’s 8th grade visit day. We have two more Visit Days October 23rd and 24th. Our admissions staff really appreciates your help in talking with prospective parents about why you chose SBA for your student. If you can provide a couple of hours of your time to help answer parent questions, they could use your help. You have the ability to make a difference. Referrals are often one of the deciding factors in why new parents decide to send their students to SBA. Our next Monthly Teachers treats day will be November 12th. We still need 7 more volunteers for this date. Our faculty and staff enjoy the efforts on their behalf. Homemade or store bought, your treats brighten their day and are a simple way of letting them know they are appreciated. Our Health Room is in need of volunteers as well. No medical experience is necessary. Just an hour (or more if you want to volunteer for longer period) of your time to help make our students a little more comfortable when they aren’t feeling well.

SAVE THE DATE for our next Home and School Parent meeting on November 12th. It will be from 8:009:00AM in the faculty dining hall. Many important events to discuss and volunteer positions to fill. Come learn more about how you can get involved and have your voice and suggestions heard about how to make our school even better. To make it easy for you to volunteer, we have set up many of our committees and volunteer opportunities at www.signupgenius.com. The links for the different volunteer opportunities are listed below. St. Benedict offers comedy for first production of the year

The Government Inspector is a classic blend of farce and satire, originally written by the great Russian dramatist and writer Nikolai Gogol, but adapted with a very modern comic sensibility by renowned American playwright Jeffrey Hatcher. This adaptation is only five years old, so this production at St. Benedict is among the first few to be performed in the nation. The story centers on a small Russian village around the turn of the last century, and begins with a crisis: the tsar has sent a mysterious inspector in disguise to evaluate the town leadership. As the mayor, his family and the rest of the town inhabitants scramble to hide their wanton corruption and incompetence, a bottom rung government clerk named Khlestakov is mistaken for the dreaded inspector. Khlestakov happily plays along with this error, enjoying the royal treatment, the bribes with which the townspeople shower him. The Minneapolis Star-‐Tribune called the play "... [A] clever, fearless script ... [The] characters feel contemporary in a show where official ignorance and incompetence are compounded by corruption and hubris." CityPages.com called it "A first-‐rate farce ... a mountain of fire-‐cracker witticisms." With a style inspired by the classic slapstick physicality of commedia dell arte, SBA's The Government Inspector will be a guaranteed laugh riot. Tickets are general admission -‐ $8 in advance in the office during school hours and $10 at the door. Performance dates and times are – Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 24-‐26 at 7:00 and Sunday, October 27 at 2:30.

COMMUNITY NEWS SECTION

! A WEEKEND FOR HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMEN & SOPHOMORES

QUEST is a program, well-planned to meet high school freshmen and sophomores where they are, and lift them to a greater realization of their own self-worth and a deeper awareness of “the others” in their lives — both persons and God. It centers around a “three circles of love” theme — calling the young people to reflection and insight on love of self, love of neighbor and love of God. Shared activities, group exercises, talks and discussions, plus ritual expressions, are all brought together to give wholeness to this experience. It is important that the QUEST weekend is not an end in itself, but rather the beginning of a lifelong journey of love and relationship with Jesus Christ. QUEST is unique and is to be experienced only once!

FOR CHRISTIAN MATURITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS & SENIORS The SEARCH for Christian Maturity is a weekend experience in Christian Living. It is designed to help you, the young Christian, as you seek to develop and grow in relationship with Jesus Christ and with others. These goals are reached on the weekend through a process of talks, small group discussions, films, prayer and many other group experiences. The incredible thing about SEARCH is that it is a program FOR youth that is made possible BY the youth leaders who help make the weekend happen. It provides a unique opportunity for young people to come to know God as God works through the words, actions and lives of their peers. In this way, each SEARCHer is able to gain a greater understanding of the meaning of Christianity in his/her own life and in the world through the thoughts of others their own age who have already begun to find insights and meanings. Finally, it is important to understand that the SEARCH weekend is not an end in itself, but rather it is the beginning of a life-long journey of love and relationship with Jesus Christ.
