ANCHORED by the iconic

Chromatic Gate created by artist, Herbert Bayer in 1991, and bathed in sunshine and ocean breeze is the quintessential public space loved by locals and visitors alike, the Cabrillo Ball Park.

The triangular shaped five–acre Cabrillo Ball Park is nestled by the East Beach Volleyball Courts and the Santa Barbara Zoo. The initial and lasting impression of the design is open, accessible, free play for all ages and abilities.

The Cabrillo Ball Park was acquired by the City of Santa Barbara between 1925 and 1927 after the land was initially used in World War II by the United States Armed Forces for housing, training, and recreation.

It has since evolved into a free and open place for play, inclusive to all, including 13 outdoor fitness equipment stations along the perimeter of the ball park. The Parks and Recreation Department has improved the site with ADA accessibility, as well as integrating Santa Barbara native landscape in borders where the community gathers to cheer on their favorite athlete, or join in a game of ball.

Regardless of age or ability, the Cabrillo Ball Park serves as a place of pride for our City.
