Theme this year....Propagation! The get together will be held outside at SGC member and Co-President Judy Bonanno’s home at 11 Samara Drive, Shrewsbury. Since the SGC has propagated our membership and won a GCNJ award for same, we would like to concentrate on propagation through seeds, cuttings, and other plant parts. We will also have SGC member, Emilee Carton, take portraits of our members. A business meeting will follow to present the programs, objectives, projects, and trips of the upcoming year. Due to Covid-19 and social distancing guidelines, if there is inclement weather, it will be canceled. SGC will provide light food and drinks.

October 16-20, 2021 “Blooming Art” Floral Challenge.
Club members will interpret either a painting or sculpture with a floral arrangement. The program is called Blooming Art. A reception will be held Oct 17th, 2-4pm. Location: The Guild of Creative Art, 620 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ.

“The Herbs of Halloween” - Join Herbalist Gert Coleman in this Zoom meeting to explore the fascinating, sometimes silly, facts and superstitions about the magical herbs of Halloween. From parsley to elder to mint, and beyond, many herbs have magical, healing and scent-sous characteristics. SGC short business meeting after presentation. Location: Virtual - The comfort of your own home.

We will meet at the Municipal Complex then we will disperse to the Allen House first to lift tender plants then on to the gazebo, walled/greenhouse garden, SHS and municipal complex to clean up the gardens. Meeting/Workshop: November 16, 2021 (7:00pm)
Ikebana Demonstration - Marina Kerber, GCNJ District 8 leader, a member of Ikebana International and Design and a floral designer will demonstrate techniques and talk about the history of Ikebana, an ancient Japanese floral art form. She will show us how to use a kenzan, also called a spiky frog, a specific device used in Ikebana to keep flowers in the container. Business meeting and disbursement of amaryllis bulbs after presentation. Location: Sunrise of Shrewsbury, 766 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ.
November 20, 2021 (8:00-10:00am) Monthly Day of Service
We will meet at the Municipal Complex to decorate the gazebo and planters for the holiday season in coordination with Shrewsbury Recreation. Afterwards we will rake the leaves and help the environment by placing the leaves in our beds to provide feed for the earthworms and beneficial microbes and to provide insulation from the cold for tender plants. Bring your gloves and tools. RSVP as to your attendance. Location: Municipal Complex, 419 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury, NJ.
November 27, 2021 (4:00pm)
Annual Shrewsbury Tree Lighting. Listen to music, sip some hot chocolate, enjoy the decorations, and wait for Santa to arrive on the fire engine. Location: 9/11 Memorial Gazebo, 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury, NJ.
November 27-28, 2021 Operation Sleigh Bells and Wreaths Across America
Operation Sleigh Bells is a Family and Children Services signature program, started in 1909 by Long Branch community leaders, using their personal resources to buy toys for impoverished children. Our annual giving back to those in need project. Also, SGC members participate in the Wreaths Across America Project to honor an American hero at the Presbyterian Church and Christ Church cemeteries. Please bring a holiday gift for Family and Children Services and your suggested $20.00 wreath donation to Judy Bonanno, 11 Samara Drive, Shrewsbury, NJ.

“Garden Under Glass-Terrariums” - Rutgers Master Gardeners of Monmouth County speaker Angela Juffey will present a fascinating slide program on how to create and care for a terrarium at 7:00pm sharp. Business meeting. Location: Sunrise of Shrewsbury, 766 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ.

“Zinnia Mania Seed Starting Workshop”- Available in a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes, this native of the Americas is easy to grow from seed; attractive to pollinators; deer and drought resistant and are excellent cut flowers. Zinnia seeds and soilless seed starting medium will be provided for club members to begin growing seeds for 2022 club projects and their own use. Bring your gloves. Business meeting to follow.
