In Observance of Anniversary of September 11th, Shrewsbury Garden Club will provide a floral display in front of the Memorial Statue, at the 9/11 Gazebo, Municipal Complex, 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury.

Theme this year....Women in Gardening! The get together will be held outside at SGC member and Co-President Judy Bonanno’s home at 11 Samara Drive, Shrewsbury. Please bring an appetizer or dessert. Please RSVP by 9/10 to Toni Fiorello, Hospitality Chair. We will start off with SGC member Julie Brain exploring Judy’s butterfly gardens and teach us how to certify it as a Monarch Waystation. She will teach you everything you need to know; from how to attract these magnificent creatures, creating safe spaces for our invited guests and lots more. If mother nature cooperates we may have a butterfly release. We will then recognize our members who have been with the club 20+ years. Belle Giblon 30 yrs in the club and also celebrates her 100th birthday, Ellen Preissler 25 yrs., Terry Blake 21 yrs., and Maureen Kachinski 20 yrs. Last year we recognized Nancy Stewart 50 yrs, Nancy Schmaltz 35 yrs, Michele Rankin 35 yrs, Robin Blair 33 yrs and Sue Berdahl 30 yrs. Congratulations! A business meeting will follow to discuss the upcoming year: objectives, projects and trips. Due to the Covid 19 and social distancing guidelines, if there is inclement weather, it will be canceled. Monthly Day of Service - We will concentrate on dividing irises, and perennials for our fundraiser. We will meet at the Municipal Complex, then disperse to different gardens that need attention. Location: 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury.

Meeting/Presentation: October 20, 2020 (7:00pm) Beatrix Ferrand Documentary - We will see a presentation about Beatrix Farrand, America’s first female landscape architect. Program introduced by SGC member, Terese Blake. Short business meeting after presentation. Location: SHS, Municipal Complex, 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury, NJ.
October 24, 2020 (8:00 am) Monthly Day of Service - We will meet at the Municipal Complex, 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury. We will prepare the planters for the Fall. Bring your gloves and tools. RSVP as to your attendance.
Trips: Due to the covid 19, trips will have to be done on your own. On page 23 of this book there are many gardens to visit.
Meeting/Workshop: November 17, 2020 (7:00pm) SGC member Nadia Nigro will walk us through a design using mason jars for the holidays. Every member will go home with their very own design. To help defray the cost of supplies, please bring $5.00 and bring some clippings from your yard to accent your creation. Don’t forget to bring your gloves and shears. November 21, 2020 (8:00am) Monthly Day of Service
We will meet at the Municipal Complex, 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury. We will disperse to the gazebo, SHS and Municipal Complex to decorate for the Holiday Season. In coordination with Shrewsbury Recreation, the Municipal Complex with be all decorated with holiday trimmings. Bring your gloves and tools. RSVP as to your attendance.

Operation Sleigh Bells - A Family and Children Services signature program, started in 1909 by Long Branch community leaders, using their personal resources to buy toys for impoverished children. Our annual giving back to those in need project. Please bring a holiday gift for Family and Children Services (a new, unwrapped toy, books, clothes or non-perishable food item) to Judy Bonanno, 11 Samara Drive, Shrewsbury, NJ by Sunday 12/4/20.
Meeting/Holiday Celebration: December 15, 2020 (6:00-8:30pm) Please join us for our annual holiday celebration at a local restaurant TBD. More information at a later date. RSVP by 12/1/20. Please bring your $15.00 for wreath donation.
Members will to donate to GCNJ Wreaths Across America. “REMEMBER our fallen U.S. Veterans, HONOR those who serve, TEACH your children the value of freedom”.

Meeting/Speaker: January 19, 2021 (7:00pm) Growing unusual vegetables - Rachel Weston, SGC member, Master Gardener and author of New Jersey Fresh: Four Seasons from Farm to Table. In this presentation you will learn about new and exciting types of produce you can grow at home including ingredients that can be used in different international cuisines. Meeting/Speaker/Workshop: February 16, 2021 (7:00pm) Growing Native Plants From Seed - Carey French, SGC member, Master Gardener and owner of Dentro Del Sol Nursery (dentrodelsolnursurey.com). Carey will discuss the benefits of growing native plants and do a hands on tutorial on how to grow these beneficial plants. Business meeting to follow. Meeting/speaker: March 16, 2021 (7:00pm) Designing with Hardy Succulents - Alicia Vacchiano of Plant Design Events and President of Wall Garden Club. Succulents are all the rage but did you know that there are succulents you can grow outdoors and are hardy in our zone 7! Learn all about these easy care perennial succulents, how to plant them and how to grow them successfully. You’ll also see many examples of how to design with these plants in your garden, providing inspiration for your next outdoor succulent project. Business meeting to follow speaker. Kitchen Gardens - Lesley Parness. (lesleyparness.com) Presentation on the 1700’s kitchen garden and 18th century huswife which fed, healed and clothed early american families. Location: Shrewsbury Historical Society, Municipal Complex, 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury, NJ.
Trips: If the covid 19 regulations are lifted we will plan a trip to one of the gardens on page 23 of this book.

June 6-12, 2021: NGC National Garden Week

SPRING PLANT SALE
Our club’s longest running event is selling geraniums each spring to members, neighbors and friends. Over the years , we have expanded our selection to include other companion plants as well as the geraniums. This is a pre-order and pick up only.

Shrewsbury Garden Club Gardener’s Market will be held on Friday May 7, 2021 and Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Shrewsbury Municipal Complex, 419 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury. The sale will include annuals, herbs, vegetables and grab and go baskets for that special person.
MUM and PERENNIAL FUNDRAISER
Decorate your gardens with mums, grasses, ornamental cabbage and pansies for the fall and get ready for the spring and summer with these perennials. This is a pre-order and pick up only.
