SOMETHING BLUE JOURNAL DALLAS

ISSUE O1 1

MEET OUR EDITOR With years under her belt as a wedding stationery business owner and marketing guru for wedding vendors across the country, Hannah Bargas, the Something Blue Dallas Journal Founder & Editor, decided to transform her knowledge of, and passion for, the wedding industry into a source of inspiration for North Texas brides. She breathed life into the idea of curating the cream of the crop of Dallas, Fort Worth, and North Texas wedding vendors with the intention of providing not only inspiration, but also greater ease and enjoyment into the wedding planning process. Hannah currently calls Harker Heights, Texas home, and when not thumbing through new content for the journal, she can be found spending time with her soon-to-be husband and their German Shepard, Ziva.

UNEXPECTED COSTS OF A WEDDING BY VERONICA ROEMER WITH SPEEDWELL EVENT CO.

Transportation Consider the cost of transportation for your bridal party to the ceremony, to the reception (if at a different place) and to your final destination after the reception. If you’re having a destination wedding or your wedding is in a more remote location, you may want to get shuttles for your guests as well.

Accessories and Alterations In addition to your wedding jewelry, veil and shoes, your perfect dress may require some extra $ to make it the perfect fit. Plus, if you want a bustle, it’ll need to be added during alterations. If the groom is buying a suit, that 24

may require alterations as well. And don’t forget his tie, socks, cuff links, tie clip, etc! Pictures of the two of you will probably be your most cherished photos, so you’ll want to make sure all your details are in place and everything fits just right! You can find a seamstress/ tailor in your budget, but make sure to find a reputable vendor with good recommendations – they’re handling THE dress, after all.

Hotel Rooms Don’t forget about a hotel room for you and your new spouse the night of your wedding! You may need a room for more than one night, and separate rooms for the night before the wedding. If you’re getting married in the city

tight budget. But having a planner for your wedding will make your day smoother, more fun, less stressful, and all around better! If you don’t have someone you can trust to run all the behind the scenes of your wedding, you’ll find yourself doing it instead of what you should be doing – getting married and having the best day/ night with your spouse, bridal party, family and your guests! There are countless issues that inevitably occur at a wedding, so rely on a trustworthy planner or coordinator to handle it all! You can 100% find a planner in your price range, call Speedwell Event Co to talk about packages.

you live, you can definitely skip this expense and go to your house, but I recommend making it a special night and getting a hotel room! Talk to the hotel you’re setting up your room blocks with – sometimes they’ll offer the Bride

and Groom a special or a free room if a certain number of guests book with them!

Bridal Party Gifts Typically, you want to get your bridesmaids and groomsmen something special to say thank you for standing up next to you. Often, it’s a good idea to get something meaningful or that they can wear on the day of the wedding, like jewelry for the girls and socks or ties for the guys. Budget approximately $50-$125 per person.

Wedding Planner / Coordinator You may not think of this as a necessity for your wedding, especially if you’re on a E DI TOR IA L

STUMPED ON WEDDING VOWS? BY HANNAH BARGAS | Vow Books by Write This Way Calligraphy

38

E DI TOR IA L

Of course, we know you could whip up cute text to your soon to be partner in crime, but your vows will be something treasured to you and your spouse for a lifetime. You don’t want anything that would be anything but your best. But, you have A LOT going on. Between working with your vendors to make sure everything is in line for your big day, we took the initiative and wrote down our favorite pieces for the perfect vow exchange!

USE THE LOCATION WHERE YOU MET, YES EVEN IF IT WAS BUMBLE. Did you meet at a park, a bar, or as the 21st century singles know it, ‘ by swiping right’? No matter where you met them, we are sure that it is a story worth telling. Think about how they made you feel that first night you met, even if you weren’t too fond of them at first (this can lead to some audience laughter - which is great for pictures!). Did you buy the first round of drinks, or did they? What was the most awkward point in the conversation? Did you know right then they were your person for life?

MAKE A PROMISE TO PUT UP WITH THEIR(ANNOYING) QUIRKS. You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again. Marriage is about compromise, a lot of compromise. With that being said, does your significant other always have to have the TV volume at a number ending in five? Do they insist on not washing their favorite football jersey because they swear it can bring bad luck? Do they leave their dirty clothes right next to the hamper? Whatever that quirk is, you love them through it all - and they’ll love you back for it. E DI TOR IA L

TAKE TIME TO REFLECT. What have you conquered since you’ve been together? Has there been separation between you two, where you had to go long periods without seeing one another, if so, how did that shape your relationship? At what point, did you realize you wanted to marry them? All of these sweet moments are massive talking points when constructing your marriage vows. Not only do they hold some of the best memories, but your guests will be elated to hear how your story has evolved to your big day.

TH I NK ABOUT TH E F UTU RE. Are you planning a family in the near future? What traits of your spouse do you hope are passed down to your future child(ren)? Are you or have you bought your home with your significant other? What parts of the house can you just not wait to work on together? Maybe, it’s the backyard where you’ll both host future family parties. Or, the bathroom that needs some new tile. Whatever that project is, what excites you the most about being able to do it with them? Also, it’s definitely valid if the only thing you’re excited about is watching them do all the work, while you drink a cocktail or couple beers!

We hope these writing tips have guided you through some writer’s block. Now, get to writing!
