Artists & Aesthetes

Numerous art galleries throughout the Chautauqua-Lake Erie region showcase work from locally, regionally, and nationally known artists in a variety of artistic mediums including, bronze sculpture, glass, ceramics, fiber, photography, and paint.

During Chautauqua Institution’s summer season, the Chautauqua Visual Arts (CVA) presents 10 exhibitions in the galleries of the Strohl and Fowler-Kellogg Art Centers, as well as the Melvin Johnson Sculpture Garden. These diverse spaces give CVA the ability to host a variety of shows from nationally recognized artists, focusing on contemporary work in a wide range of media. Visiting and resident artists discuss their work, process and inspiration during the Visual Arts Lecture Series. The CVA program also offers classes for the general public, allowing beginners through advanced students (18+) to study with professional staff and create art.

ART Cloth + Craft, located in the heart of Jamestown, offers a unique experience of a boutique carrying a collection of eclectic and meaningful handmade gifts combined with a gallery featuring local artists in all mediums. Participate in the Chautauqua-Lake Erie Art Trail Open Studio Tour held each year during Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekends, and the juried Wild America Nature Festival held by Panama Rocks Scenic Park.
