Question:

Ed: Next year we plan to create a very versatile kitchen. This year I plan to buy/store the plumbing fixtures. Since we’re not sure about final details, do they make stainless steel kitchen sinks that can be both top- or bottom-mounted?

Answer:

Dual-mount stainless steel kitchen sinks are not only available, they can also come loaded with extra features.

Let’s start by talking about the special sink rim feature that makes top or bottom mounting possible. Instead of a standard round or raised rim, a dualmount kitchen sink has a wide, thin, flat rim. So the sink can attach securely to the underside of the counter, or it can mount on top of the counter, giving you a convenient low-profile sink rim.

Having that dual-mounting flexibility should take away any concerns of last-minute design changes.

Other options I suggest to include with your dual-mount stainless steel sink: low bowl divide for washing larger pots and pans in a double-bowl sink; offset drains for a smarter work area; and sound shield technology to help muffle sink noises.

Taking all that into consideration, you’ll find that a dual-mount stainless steel sink can be a perfect start to creating your very versatile kitchen.
