Sudoku puzzles appear on the Diversions page Monday-Saturday and on the crossword solutions page in Sunday’s Life section. to form the surprise answer, as suggested by the above cartoon.
ARIES — Squabbles may come up between you and a sibling or neighbor, Aries. Your ability to compromise is definitely called for here. If you aren’t careful, this could turn into a battle of wills. The minute the disagreement comes up, try to talk it out and turn it into a win/win situation. Otherwise, things may be said that shouldn’t be, and feelings could remain hurt for a long time.
HOROSCOPE
Fill in the grid so every row, every column and every 3-by-3 grid contains the digits 1 through 9. that means that no number is repeated in any row, column or box.
SAGITTARIUS — If you’ve been having trouble reaching a romantic partner, Sagittarius, it might be a good idea to stop trying. Your friend is having a rough day and might not make the best company. In fact, your beloved could view a call from you as an unwelcome interruption and be short, if not downright rude.
THAT
TAURUS — Money matters might cause you a few headaches, Taurus. You could be torn between the desire to put money aside for the future and the impulse to buy something that you’ve wanted for a long time. There may be a way to have it both ways. Save a little less and try to find a bargain price for your item.
LIBRA — Matters involving communication seem to be fouled up, Libra. Messages may not get delivered, emails may not go through, and people might misinterpret your words. This could create a mess that brings everything to a screeching halt. You need to speak to people directly, give detailed instructions, use simple language, and make sure they take notes.

CANCER — breakthroughsSpiritualmayhave you feeling a little disconcerted, Cancer. Clearing away deadwood, such as past traumas, might tell you a few things about yourself you’d rather not face. It’s vital to release them in order to progress as a human being. Even if tears are involved, this is a positive development.
SCORPIO — Your values could oppose those of a business or romantic partner today, Scorpio. One of you may be overly pragmatic and the other too idealistic. One seems callous, while the other seems to be living in a dream world. This could be a milestone in your relationship if approached properly.
Codeword is a fun game with simple rules, and a great way to test your knowledge of the English
CAPRICORN — You may feel a bit restless and unsettled without really knowing why, Capricorn. Stresses on the job could churn up repressed resentment from the past that you need to release. Try to discern exactly what these stresses remind you of. If you’re unable to do this, however, you’ll probably still reap the benefits of the release.
“To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved.”
LEO — A virtual conference of some kind could touch upon some pretty volatile issues, Leo. People could disagree to the point that the meeting turns into a shouting match. You probably have strong opinions on this as well, but don’t get involved. You won’t be able to stop the argument, and it can only cause you stress.
VIRGO — Is your significant other caught up in family problems and unable to spend time with you? Don’t let your insecurity get the best of you. Your partner needs to deal with family now. Relax, do what you want to do, and have confidence that you’ll be spending more time together as soon as possible.

GEMINI — Too much rigorous exercise over the past few days might have you feeling a little sore and tired, Gemini. Your nerves may be on edge, and you could be more likely than usual to snap at those around you. Try to ease both nerves and muscle aches by soaking in a hot bath. Herbal tea might also help.
AQUARIUS — Too many people could be vying for your attention today, Aquarius. All of them want advice or help. This could be flattering, and you’ll probably want to help them, but it can also be unsettling and make it hard to focus. Don’t let this set your temper on edge and cause you to snap at your friends.

Assembly Bill 1287 seeks to eliminate the “pink tax” within California — a phenomenon where products marketed toward women are more expensive than the same products marketed to men.“Gendered pricing or the ‘Pink Tax’ is systemic devaluation of women’s economic wellbeing,” the bill’s author, Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan wrote in support of the legislation. “These higher prices, especially for necessities, augments existing gender inequalities in pay and wealth.”
Under the bill, businesses in California would be prohibited from charging a different price for two goods that are “substantially similar” if those goods are priced differently based on the gender the goods are marketed toward.
Madison Hirneisen covers California for The Center Square.
The bill defines “substantially similar” as goods that have similar intended uses, similar functional design, no substantial differences in material or production, and the brand of the product is the same or owned by the same entity.
Other measures signed into law include Assembly Bill 1706 requiring courts to resentence or dismiss certain cannabisrelated convictions and Senate Bill 1326, which allows California to enter interstate agreements to transport cannabis across state lines.“For too many Californians, the promise of cannabis legalization remains out of reach,” Gov. Newsom said in a statement Sunday. “These measures build on the important strides our state has made toward this goal, but much work remains to build an equitable, safe and sustainable legal cannabis industry.” Madison Hirneisen covers California for The Center Square.
“In California, once this takes effect, most employees will not be subjected to pre-employment urine testing that can determine that they’ve used cannabis days or weeks beforehand before applying for the job, and those already employed won’t be subject to that testing post-accident or for other reasons,” deputy director of the advocacy group California NORML Ellen Komp told The Center Square. “It’ll bring about more equity, more fairness and I think a better workforce.”

Skepticism about the accuracy of the figure remains, however, since there haven’t been attempts to update the numerical figure since 1994, according to Investopedia.“Itishighly unlikely that this figure is still accurate, and simply adjusting it for inflation wouldn’t make it accurate either,” according to Investopedia. “Changes in product prices based on supply and demand, along with campaigns to neutralize gender discrepancies, have certainly altered the amount since then.”

Similar to other cases involving discrimination, however, it could be very hard to prove that an applicant wasn’t selected for a job or an employee was fired based on a urine drug test unless the employer outright says so, California Employment Lawyers Association Policy Director Mariko Yoshihara told The Center Square.
New York, Arizona, Minnesota and Illinois have enacted laws to require employers to require medical cannabis accommodations, according to a billABanalysis.2188was opposed by the California Chamber of Commerce as it moved through the legislature, landing a place on the group’s “job killer” list
2188 will make it unlawful for an employer to discriminate against or penalize an employee for cannabis use away from work. The bill also prevents employers from discriminating against workers and job applicants based on a drug screening test that detects “non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites” in hair, blood or urine. The bill, signed by the governor on Sunday, specifies that employees are not permitted to be impaired by cannabis at work and notes that the law does not apply to building and construction trades or employees hired for federal government positions that require a urine test.
California could abolish ‘pink tax’ under bill awaiting Newsom’s signature
“If a person thinks that they were not hired because of their race or their sex, you have to have some sort of evidence, whether it’s circumstantial, to try to prove that it was that protected status that was the reason for the discriminatory act,” Ms. Yoshihara said. “But I think if you have evidence that the employer required this test that also tested for these non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites, that’s pretty strong evidence that that was a factor.”“Since those tests can no longer be used to make an employment decision, it would be wise for employers to simply stop using them,” Ms. Yoshihara added.

(The Center Square) — Charging more for pink razors, fruit-scented deodorants and other products marketed toward women that are “substantially similar” to products marketed to men would be outlawed in California under a bill sitting on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.
The bill faced opposition from Kern County as it passed through the Legislature.
Supporters of the legislation say the measure will allow employers to transition away from urine
The tax exclusion was set to sunset on Jan. 1, 2025. The bill’s author, state Sen. Robert Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, argued that the incentive should be extended through Jan. 1, 2027.
(The Center Square) — A new California law extends the sunset on an existing property tax exclusion for newly constructed active solar energy systems by two years, a measure that Gov. Gavin Newsom acknowledged has a “direct impact” on property tax revenues for local governments.
Kern County said the solar tax exclusion has cost the county “$110 million over the last 10 years for what was –15 years ago — a new and emerging industry.”

“I believe this two-year, temporary extension strikes an appropriate balance between ensuring that these delayed solar projects are brought online quickly, while recognizing the impacts to local governments,” the governor wrote, noting that this year’s budget includes $300 million in bridge funding for county governments advancing climate resilience projects.
