Camp at SBS is fun! Our coaches inspire campers to grow in their love and understanding of the sports they enjoy playing through balanced skills work, drills and competitions. Camp at SBS is unique! Our coaches genuinely love what they do, love God and are excited to get to know each athlete. Daily devotionals focus on how young athletes can live their lives with excellence on and off the field of play.

RAYNER NOBLE Coach Noble came to SBS in 2011 and has served as the Head Baseball Coach since 2019. Coach has over 30 years’ experience at the high school and collegiate levels. He has coached collegiately at Rice University and as Head Coach at the University of Houston. He played professional baseball in the Houston Astros organization and college baseball at the University of Houston. Coach Noble also serves in the SBS physical education department. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT SBS: Regional Championships: 4 State Tournament Appearances: 4 State Championships: 2

COST: $125 COACHES: Rayner Noble CAMP DESCRIPTION: The goal of baseball camp is to experience, firsthand, how the Second Baptist School baseball program teaches, practices and plays the game. Athletes learn what it takes to be successful in the game of baseball with focus on individual skills, baseball fundamentals, team strategy and team competitions in a fun, energetic environment.

CAMP DESCRIPTION: During Eagle softball camp, players receive instruction in all aspects of softball including throwing, fielding, hitting, base running and situational softball. Sessions highlight small group and team competition. Campers learn the fundamentals of the game while gaining confidence in their softball skills.
BRANDY MARDIS Coach Mardis came to SBS in 2016 and has served as the Head Softball Coach since that time. Coach has a number of years’ experience playing and coaching at both the high school and collegiate level. She played college softball at Dayton University achieving high awards such as Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. Coach Mardis also serves in the SBS physical education department. BOYS SOCCER CAMP
GUY CHALHOUB Coach Chalhoub came to SBS in 2018 and has served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach since that time. Coach has been coaching professionally since 2007, coaching multiple sports at the high school level and is NSCAA and THSCA certified to coach soccer. He played soccer collegiately at the University of St. Thomas. Coach Chalhoub also serves in the SBS upper school social science department.

GEOFF BROOKS Coach Brooks came to SBS in 2003 and has served as Head Women’s Soccer Coach since 2005. Coach has won multiple district championships and had many playoff appearances. He played college soccer at Oklahoma Baptist University. Coach Brooks also serves in the SBS AP science department. SUE BERG Coach Berg came to SBS in 1992 and has served as the Head Volleyball Coach since that time. She has over 20 years of experience and has won multiple district and state championships. She played college volleyball at the University of Texas where she was a captain and All-American on the 1988 national championship team. She led Texas to a combined 40-0 record in the Southwest Conference and ranks second in the longhorn record books with 3,204 career assists. Coach Berg also serves as Assistant Athletic Director at SBS. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT SBS: State Tournament Appearances: 9 State Finalists: 2

Volleyball camp focuses on important key volleyball skills: serving, passing, hitting, setting and team rotations. Athletes finetune their fundamentals while improving their effectiveness on the court. Instruction includes individual work on basic skills and team drills for players to gain a deeper understanding of the game.
During Eagle football camp, players receive instruction in all aspects of football including passing, rushing, receiving, line play, blocking and pass and run defense. Through our experienced coaching staff, campers learn the fundamentals and techniques necessary for each position. Sessions highlight small group and team competition. Campers are encouraged through a week filled with fun and fellowship while gaining confidence in their football skills. This is a non-contact camp.

TERRY PIRTLE Coach Pirtle came to SBS in 2013 and has served as the Head Football Coach since that time. Coach has over 30 years of experience coaching and has won district and state championships in multiple sports. He played college baseball at Sam Houston State where he received multiple awards. Coach Pirtle also serves in the SBS physical education department. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT SBS: District Championships: 7 Area Championships: 4 Regional Championships: 2

ANDREA SPENCE Coach Spence came to SBS in 2019 and has served as the Head Cheer Coach since that time. Coach has been a Head Cheer Coach since 2007, having experience at both the middle and high school levels. She is an AACCA certified coach and a staff member of the NCA. She cheered collegiately at the University of Houston. Coach Spence also serves in the SBS social science department.

Spirit Camp will focus on skills in both the areas of cheer and dance. Girls will learn from Varsity Cheer Coach Andrea Spence and Varsity Golden Girls Coach Madelyn Whitehead. The camp will allow girls to learn skills and routines in an energetic atmosphere and perform for parents and fans on the last day of camp. Varsity cheerleaders and varsity Golden Girls will be on hand to help with instruction and demonstration.

Coach Whitehead came to SBS in 2016 and has served as the Head Coach of the Golden Girls since 2017. Coach has been teaching dance since 2009. She started competitive dance when she was 5 years old and danced while in high school and college. Coach Whitehead also serves in the SBS Communications Office. KEVIN MOUTON Coach Mouton came to SBS in 2011 and has served as Head Men’s Basketball Coach since that time. Coach has numerous wins and accolades at both the high school and collegiate levels being named TAPPS Coach of the Year in 2018. He has coached collegiately at Oregon State University and Rice University. He played college basketball at Oregon State University where he won Most Inspirational and the Coaches Award. JOHN HERNDON Coach “CH” Herndon came to SBS in 2018 and has served as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach since that time. Coach has been teaching and coaching basketball across not only the Houston area, but across the country, for many years. He has coached collegiately at Rice University, North Dakota State University and Washington and Lee University. He is the summer basketball camp director for Rice University.
