TECHFEST 2017
TECHFEST 2017 // NOVEMBER 8 PRESENTED BY SECOND BAPTIST SCHOOL
WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE? Leaders with a clear purpose make an impact in our community. This is a purpose outside oneself that is strong enough to prompt action. Forty percent of adults have a clear purpose in life. What could the other sixty percent of adults achieve with the right coaching? Ross Wehner spent a great deal of effort researching purpose and its association to leaders and student learning. Wehner, a founding partner of World Action Teams and founder and director of the World Leadership School, empowers young leaders to find new and innovative solutions to the world’s pressing problems.
Wehner’s research indicates that students with a purpose form emotional connections to learning. Yet, only twenty percent of students have a clear purpose in life. Kids with a purpose manage learning and stress better than those that are just goal-oriented. What could be achieved if classroom leaders developed and fine-tuned their purpose in education? What if we could impart that same passion for purpose to our students? Our goal today is that you spend time reflecting on your purpose in the classroom.

Joseph Miller and Anderson Ta TxRx Labs Suggested for all levels Design Thinking is a methodology used to solve complex problems. It requires identification of a problem, but is solution focused, asking students to collect information about parties affected by the intended product before designing a solution. Although it was originally used to create objects and products, the design process can be applied to theoretical and academic problems. At TxRx Labs, we use the design process for the creation of physical objects, and utilize prototyping tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters to design low-cost solutions that can be analyzed, modified, redesigned and recreated repeatedly until the best solution is obtained.

More and more, it serves as a platform through which students develop and share original content with one another, as well as a broader, global audience. With the support of various Web 2.0 and software technologies, teachers now have the opportunity to encourage, guide and critique students as they create authentic products, the kinds of outputs they might encounter outside of school in their personal or professional lives.
