President’s Report Jenny Merritt The Fall/Winter issue of Staff Status marks the end of another year. Looking back, it was a pretty good year. A lot of activity, a national specialty in Pennsylvania, huge accomplishments in performance from coast to coast, new members joining the club, some fun times, and some loses, (both human and four legged), and some disasters from hurricanes to devastation from fires, the remarkable thing is how our small group sticks together and supports one another. This is my last report as president, and I’m excited to report that our club elections have yielded two new board members in Lorelei Craig as president and Jennifer Rice as Area 1 Director. A big thank you to Jill Tice for her work as Area 1 Director, and a big welcome to Lorelei and Jennifer! Looking forward, the 2019 National will take place in Kentucky in March (see ad in this issue). Monica McGrew (show chair) and Christine Edwards (performance chair) have pulled together what will be a terrific show. They have a great team of members all participating in a variety of ways. Whether you are attending or not, be sure to show your support with a trophy donation, purchase of show collectibles, or participating in on-line auctions, every little bit helps. Jodie Berry and others are in touch with the AKC Canine College and are in the beginning stages of forming a committee to work specifically on Canine College educational materials and hopefully have a presence at the 2019 National. Stay tuned for updates on what is happening with these efforts and thank you Jodie for taking this on.

we often do not have enough mentors, or the mentor is showing and cannot do it. Please check it out and see if you would qualify as a mentor and consider applying!

Junior’s Report Kate Holmen

I’m hoping to see the new board take on the idea of having open board meetings! This would allow members to see the inner workings of a club and see how business is conducted. It also allows members to participate. There is a huge pool of talent in our club, and it is important to tap into it.

Hello everyone! I’m happy to report our juniors continue to be super active with their Staffords! There is a lot of talent there, and a great combination of experience and new blood. But the members also need to provide input, join committees so no committee is just one person, attend events, and promote the club and our breed. Several members are always there – and to those, a big thanks! It is the members who carry the club and you are very much appreciated. JEC (Judges Education) is looking for some new committee members – Dana Merritt has stepped down as the JEC Chair and will stay on, along with a few of the current members, as part of the committee, but this is a great opportunity for others to step up and take on these challenges, bring new ideas and new vision for the committee. Again, watch for information as this moves forward. By the way, whether you are on Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a this committee or not, there is a need for safe and prosperous new year. mentors for our breed. The club has been contacted by aspiring judges from time-to- Jenny time looking to be mentored at shows, and

Public Education Lucille Perry About a year ago I approached Dana and Jenny about breeding Lola (Ch. Distaff Galaxina). My reason was that she was such a quality Stafford that it would be a shame to let these blood lines go. They told me the best way was for them to lease Lola and they also insisted that I would be on the lease contract, too. Because of that I now have “breeder” in my resume/. I asked Dana to finish the PEC report by writing about how leasing works. A lot of dog owners do not know how to temporarily own/co-own a dog or bitch using an AKC lease agreement. The advantage is it has a specific start and ending date, avoiding the hassle of filling out registration papers to change ownership on a dog and then having to do it all over again to restore the ownership back to the way it was. Most leases are used for the purpose of owning/co-owning a bitch for breeding. That is what we did with Lola. We put the effective date of the lease for about one year to make sure that we had ownership from breeding to 8 weeks after the whelping, so we wouldn’t have renew it. It worked out

beautifully with 6 lovely pups. At one time we used to co-own what we thought would be good potential in the future. Co-ownerships come with particulars spelled out in a contract. (FYI: I was told that a dollar amount (value) should be included to collect on a breach of contract). This method gives the breeder more control, but after awhile multiple co-ownerships can become very time consuming. So we now, if we think there is a future in one of our pups, do a “Lease Option” contract, again spelling out the particulars. All contracts must have willing parties and there is a risk it may not work-out. The good of co-ownerships and lease options is all parties tend to stay in contact which gives the dog a better support system. Also the dog is in its own loving home and not oversharing with a pack or in a kennel run and the breeder get s to extent their breeding program and possibly mentor a new enthusiast into the breed. Another use for leases is to be put on dog that is going to be campaigned. or for the purpose of ownership during an important show cluster or National. As evident, leases can be very useful in the world of dogs, serving a purpose but keeping it simple.

The first order of business was the vote for the Delegate Standing Committees. Chief Financial Officer, Joseph Buffuto, gave the August 2018 Financial Performance Report. The AKC is still in very good shape financially.

The following proposed changes to the Rules Applying to Dog Shows were voted on at the meeting. The proposal was approved by the AKC Board of Directors based on a Delegate Dog Show Rules Committee recommendation. Read on Chapter 11, Section 8, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows I am in favor of this change. Chapter 11, Section 8-A, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows – Dog Show Entries, Conditions of Dogs Affecting Eligibility, requires permanent identification for a dog that is disqualified if it is ever to be considered for reinstatement. Additionally, a photo of the dog must be taken in the ring. The amendment was approved by the Delegate Dog Show Rules Committee and unanimously disapproved by the AKC Board at the May 2018 Board meeting. The Dog Show Rules Committee is demanding that this amendment go forward to the Delegates for a vote as per the AKC Bylaws. Read on Chapter 11, Section 8-A (DQ Changes), of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows I am in favor of this change; however, there is a huge amount of controversy on this one. I doubt that it will pass.

Chapter 11, Section 8-A, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows – Dog Show Entries, Conditions of Dogs Affecting Eligibility, puts the reinstatement process into the rules and removes the possibility of a reinstatement occurring at events. AKC currently provides a list of dogs that have been disqualified but that list does not include the owner's name or contact information as that would be a breach of the Disclosure of Information policy. The amendment was approved by the Delegate Dog Show Rules Committee and unanimously disapproved by the AKC Board at the May 2018 Board meeting. The Dog Show Rules Committee is demanding that the amendment go forward to the Delegates for a vote as per the AKC Bylaws. Read on Chapter 11, Section 8-A (Reinstatement), of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows I am in favor of this change; however, the section concerning the owners contact information appears to violate the Disclosure of Information policy. Chapter 14, Section 5, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows – Measuring, Weighing and Color Determinations When Factors of Disqualification in Breed Standards or Eligibility Under Conditions of Class or Division of Class Cancellation of Awards, requiring the Event Committee or Superintendent/Show Secretary to provide digital scales in addition to wickets. Additionally, changes were made to consolidate language and change italics to become part of the rule. The proposal was approved by the AKC Board of Directors based on a Delegate Dog Show Rules Committee recommendation. Read on Chapter 14, Section 5, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows I am in favor of this change. Chapter 16, Section 1, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows – Championships, provides the Best of Winners the opportunity to earn one championship point if the combined number of regular class dogs for both sexes is the minimum required for one point (usually two competitors total). The proposal was approved by the AKC Board of Directors based on a Staff and All-Breed Club, Dog Show Rules and Parent Club Committees recommendation reviewed at the June Delegate's meeting. Read on Chapter 16, Section 1, of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows I am in favor of this change. Chapter 14, Section 12, 12A, 13, 13A, and 11A of the Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedure for Pointing Breeds. – Section 12 collar clarifies that the handlers in the current Open Gun Dog Championship are entitled to ride horses. Section 12A clarifies that the handlers in the Amateur Gun Dog Championship are entitled to ride horses. Section 13 adds a new Open Walking Gun Dog Championship stake. Section 13A adds a new Amateur Walking Gun Dog Championship. Section 11A clarifies that the current Amateur Championship is an All Age stake. The proposal was approved by the AKC Board of Directors based on a 24 recommendation from the American Brittany Club. Read on Chapter 14, Sections 12, 12A, 13, 13A, and 11A, of the Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedure for Pointing Breeds I don’t have a firm opinion on this change, but I’m open to input from PKC members. Rally Intermediate Title. So fun to watch these two! We wish to extend HUGE Congratulations again to Christine Ann Edwards and her girl Racer for their amazing performance at the AKC Tracking National Invitational!!!! I asked Christine to tell us about it.... “Some photos of Racer and me during the AKC National Tracking Invitational held In Kentucky. She was the first ever Stafford lucky enough to make the draw to attend. Racer was very focused throughout the duration of the track and never stopped working. I heard lots of muttering about how impressed people were with Racer’s tracking skill & ability. I think we did a good job representing our breed” We think you did a fantastic job too! It is nearly impossible to even win the Invitational Draw, something akin to winning Power Ball, and you two really made the most out of your opportunity and did us all proud! Fast Cat had a lot of action, with several members and their dogs not only getting to play, but earning their BCAT Title! Area Five Angie Vaughn Hello Everyone. This issue I really do not have much to share. I am sure members in Area 5 have been busy with their dogs, but also with the holidays arriving, I am sure they have many things on their minds. So for this addition I want to share with you some personal thoughts.

people from so many different walks in life. The time spent with friends doing what we loved and doing it our way. Looking back on all the old pictures has flooded my mind with so many different memories and so many fun times. I am amazed at how much impact my dogs have made in my life and the decisions I have made because of them. We all know the dog world can be frustrating at times, and we all know you can meet those few people that you could have gone an entire lifetime without meeting. But the truly amazing and wonderful people that I have had the pleasure to meet and the wonderful times and adventures we have shared makes those few vanish from the picture. It has brought me friendships that have been built and truly bonded with love and trust. I am so very thankful for them being a part of my life. Then there are the amazing dogs that I have had the privilege to share my life with and the absolute contentment that they have brought to my world. We have done and seen so many things in this world together that I would have had no reason to explore without them in my life. Some people say they are just dogs, and that makes me sad that those people never had the opportunity to learn the valuable lessons that mine have taught me. Some of those important lessons have been that sometimes people don’t need words from us, just sitting quietly next to them can be of more comfort then words could ever be. The heartbreak of lose from the amazing dogs I have had to say goodbye to over the years, has helped teach me how to let go, even though it hurts, but also that love and memories do last forever. I am still amazed by everything when I look back at where I started, where I am today and everything in between. Isn’t life an incredible journey? If I had to do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing. For those of you who are just starting out, remember to open up and be yourself, because that is the very best you. Spend time with as many of the other Stafford people as you can, you will be astonished by all the things that you learn. Don’t forget to take lots of photos and hold on tight. Because you are in for one hell of a ride!!

I spent most of my morning reminiscing about my life filled with dogs and how grateful I am that this was the path I had chosen. I don’t know if it’s the holiday season that has caused me to be so nostalgic, or maybe it’s just that I am getting old and I know there is only so much more time to accomplish the things I would like. But I think we should all take time now and again to reflect and remember. I have thousands of pictures; however I wish I had taken more. I have thousands of memories and adventures and things that I will cherish forever. But on this path one of the most Area Four important things I have learned, is that it is Brenda Holmen not about the ribbons and wins. Don’t get me wrong, those are wonderful, but they are not the things you will carry and take with Hello members! you in the years that come. What I have I would like to start by thanking everyone Enjoy the Holidays for their votes during the recent election and carried are the things I have learned, even the opportunity to serve the members for when I believed I was done learning. The Angie Vaughan one more term. It has truly been an honor to laughs and the conversation shared with

Trugrip since 1969 We want to acknowledge those that were/are part of our journey, keeping it interesting and fun including: Bill and Judi Daniels (Starzend), Jim Davenport/ Rob Phillips (Davenhill), Ralph Trenka, Lucille Perry, Julia Vea (Agincourt), Mike Proniuk and Lisa Daum, Lynn Heimbuch (Classy Staffy) Dave and Karen Assimes (BC), Doug and Christine Dawson, Keith and Donna Mckinney (Rockin’), Randi Taormina and Tom McPeters (Lancerstafz), Doug Ferrin (Imperium), Mary Cornelius (Quicksilver), Jolene Lee Snowden (Roxee) Eddie and Marci Day (Redline), Ron Schwab (Rakstaff), Thornton Alberg (Irie) Joan Ganz (Camelot), Toni Pawson (Manorview), Paul and Trudy Hansen (Distaff), Linda Robinson (Beoulin) Jim and Cassie Malloy (Maddenduff), Corrinne Minnard (Shasta Staffies), Ron and Connie Torres, Lorain Able, Cindy and Gary Brunk (Hard Knox), Debra and John Cone (WonCru), Jessi Lemler (Sassafras), Linda Bortles (Funagin) and Chuck and Patricia Wardlaw (our parents). There are many others that we have enjoyed meeting, working with and we looking forward to sharing the journey with many more. One of the things folks notice about naming our pups is that many have duel kennel names (i.e.: Trugrip BC or Trugrip Redline), that is because of the naming of Ch. Silverzend Satan. He was a stud dog fee and so the stud dog owners took the naming rights which was the norm back then, but the breeders (us) got left out. So, we made a rule: Any co-bred litter will have the option to have all of the owners’ Kennel names as part of the pups name. The Trugrip story started in 1969 when Jenny (age 16) earned the promise to get a dog (good grades) and she asked for a Bull Terrier. The L.A. Times had an ad for SBT pups located in the upscale area of the Hollywood Hills. We took the 2 hour trip from Lancaster and came back with a female pup (Ch. Constables Billy Club of Silverlake) and a 6 month rescue name Raynin Jamima. It’s now 50 years later and we are now celebrating the years of success and (currently) 138 Trugrip champions. We are looking to the future of : Breeding, Showing and having Fun with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It’s Not Just Grain-Free: An Update on Diet-Associated Dilated Cardiomyopathy

by Lisa M. Freeman, DVM, PhD, DACVN You may have read my June 4 post, “A broken heart: Risk of heart disease in boutique or grain-free diets and exotic ingredients.” This post had more than 180,000 page views in the first week and continues to get more than 2000 page views a day. So, I’m pleased that people are interested in this important issue and trying to learn about it. But I’ve also found a tremendous amount of confusion and misinformation in the past 5 months including people who doubt that this is a real issue, some who still haven’t heard about it, and people who mistakenly think it’s just grain-free diets or that it’s only related to taurine. As a result of the continued confusion, some of my cardiologist colleagues and I wrote an article which was published in the latest issue of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. This article provides a summary of our current understanding of diet-associated dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), how to recognize it, and a recommended protocol for veterinarians to follow when they see dogs with DCM. To be sure this information reaches as wide an audience as possible and to clear up confusion, I thought I’d provide some updates to address the most common misconceptions I’m hearing: It’s not just grain-free. This does not appear to be just an issue with grain-free diets. I am calling the suspected diets, “BEG” diets – boutique companies, exotic ingredients, or grain-free diets. The apparent link between BEG diets and DCM may be due to ingredients used to replace grains in grain-free diets, such as lentils or chickpeas, but also may be due to other common ingredients commonly found in BEG diets, such as exotic meats, vegetables, and fruits. In addition, not all pet food manufacturers have the same level of nutritional expertise and quality control, and this variability could introduce potential issues with some products. Most dogs being diagnosed with DCM do not have low taurine levels. Some owners continue to feed a BEG diet but supplement taurine thinking that this will reduce their risk for heart disease. In our hospital, we currently measure taurine in all dogs with DCM, but more than 90% of our patients with DCM in which taurine has been measured have normal levels (and the majority are eating BEG diets). Yet some of these dogs with DCM and normal taurine levels improve when their diets are changed. This suggests that there’s something else playing a role in most cases – either a deficiency of a different nutrient or even a toxicity that may be associated with BEG diets. Giving taurine is unlikely to prevent DCM unless your dog has taurine deficiency. And given the lack of quality control for dietary supplements, you can introduce new risks to your dog if you give a supplement without evidence that she needs it. Raw diets and homemade diets are not safe alternatives. Out of concern, some owners are switching from BEG diets to a raw or home-cooked diet. However, we have diagnosed DCM in dogs eating these diets too. And raw and home-cooked diets increase your dog’s risk for many other health problems. So, forego the raw or home-cooked diets and stick with a commercial pet food made by a well-established manufacturer that contains common ingredients, including grains. If your dog requires a home-prepared diet for a medical condition or you feel strongly about feeding one, I strongly recommend you consult with a Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist TM (acvn.org). However, because home-cooked diets are not tested for safety and nutritional adequacy like good quality commercial diets, deficiencies could still develop. Current thoughts on DCM

Currently, it appears that there may be three separate groups of dogs with DCM (although this may change as we learn more). I am listing them in the approximate frequency that we are currently seeing them in our hospital: Diet-associated DCM with normal taurine levels. While this form of the disease was first identified in dogs of breeds not predisposed to DCM that are eating BEG diets, it appears to also occur in dogs of typical DCM breeds that are eating a BEG diet. Primary DCM in predisposed breeds that is unrelated to diet. This is the traditional, genetically-related DCM in typical breeds, such as the Doberman Pinscher, Boxer, Irish Wolfhound, and Great Dane. Diet-associated DCM with taurine deficiency: This is the least common form we are seeing in our hospital. This appears to happen both in breeds predisposed to DCM and breeds that are not predisposed to DCM.

contiuned

Common questions We still have a great deal to learn about diet-associated DCM. However, I’m providing answers to some common questions I’ve been getting based on what is currently known: What’s causing diet-associated DCM in dogs? For the vast majority of dogs, we do not yet know what is causing this disease. There are definitely some dogs with DCM that have low taurine levels, many of which will improve with taurine supplementation and change of diet. For dogs that have normal taurine levels, however, other nutritional deficiencies may be present. Some nutritional deficiencies can affect the heart’s normal function, so an insufficient amount of these nutrients (or reduced bioavailability) in the diet could cause heart disease. Diet-associated DCM could also be due to an ingredient in the food that is toxic to the heart. The FDA and many researchers are actively studying this issue so that it can be solved as quickly as possible. My dog was diagnosed with DCM. What should I do? Ask your veterinarian to measure taurine levels and give heart medications as directed by your veterinarian. If your dog is eating a BEG diet or other unconventional diet (including vegetarian, vegan, or home-prepared diets), I recommend following the steps outlined in my previous post, including switching to a non-BEG diet. Three updates to my previous post are: Taurine supplements: Consumer Lab is expected to release a report on independent quality control testing of taurine supplements in late 2018. Given the lack of quality control for dietary supplements (human and pet), having these results will be very useful to find good quality products for dogs that require taurine supplementation. Your veterinarian or veterinary cardiologist can help you determine an optimal dose for your dog. Other dogs in the household: We are now recommending that other dogs in the household of dogs with DCM that are eating the same BEG diet be screened by their veterinarian since their hearts could also be affected (even if they are showing no symptoms). Outcome: Not all dogs with DCM will improve and improvements in the echocardiogram, when they do occur, can take a long time (often more than 6 months). If my dog is eating a BEG diet but has no symptoms, should I test for DCM or switch to a different diet? It’s unlikely that most dogs eating a BEG diet will develop DCM. However, given the fact that we don’t yet understand why BEG diets are affecting some dogs and because DCM is a life-threatening disease, I recommend you reconsider your dog’s diet until we know more. Contrary to popular belief, there are no health benefits of grain-free or exotic ingredient diets except in the rare case of food allergy. If your dog is a part of your family and you want to feed him the very best, be sure to base this important decision on more objective factors than marketing and the ingredient list (see our post). Be sure to watch for early signs of heart disease – weakness, slowing down, less able to exercise, shortness of breath, coughing, or fainting. If you notice any of these, get your dog checked out by your veterinarian who will listen for a heart murmur or abnormal heart rhythm (although not all dogs with DCM have any changes that can be heard with a stethoscope). Your veterinarian (or a veterinary cardiologist) may do additional tests, such as x-rays, blood tests, electrocardiogram, and ultrasound of the heart (echocardiogram – the test of choice to diagnose DCM).Tell your veterinarian what you’re feeding your dog. You can help your veterinarian by bringing a list of everything your dog eats to every appointment. If your dog has no symptoms, additional testing is really up to you. Some owners have measured plasma and whole blood taurine levels or scheduled an echocardiogram to check their dog’s heart size and function. However, given the cost of an echocardiogram, other owners have elected to have their veterinarian do a blood test called NT-proBNP, which goes up when the heart is enlarged. While a normal value doesn’t guarantee your dog has no heart disease, a high level suggests your dog’s heart should be evaluated further. Has diet-associated DCM been seen in cats? The association between BEG diets and heart disease has only been reported in dogs so far. However, that doesn’t mean cats are immune. If your cat is diagnosed with DCM and is eating a BEG, vegetarian, vegan, or homeprepared diet, I recommend following the same protocol as described for dogs with DCM. Lastly, if your dog has been eating a BEG diet and has been diagnosed with DCM, please don’t feel guilty. I’ve talked to owners who feel terrible because they wanted to provide the finest care for their dog by feeding them the best diet possible. They often spent a lot of money buying an expensive boutique diet and now that same diet may be associated with their dog’s heart disease. Trying to decide what is really the best food is confusing and difficult because of the many different products available, nutrition fads, and compelling marketing. My hope is that the one bright side of this serious situation is that it will shine a light on the complexities of making safe and nutritious pet food and the importance of nutritional expertise and quality control, rather than just what is new and trendy.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed Standard General Appearance The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a s mooth-coated dog. It should be of great strength for its size and, although muscular, should be active and agile. Size, Proportion, Substance Height at shoulder: 14 to 16 inches. Weight: Dogs, 28 to 38 pounds; bitches, 24 to 34 pounds, these heights being related to weights. Non-conformity with these limits is a fault. In proportion, the length of back, fro m withers to tail set, is equal to the distance from withers to ground.

Head Short, deep through, broad skull, very pronounced cheek muscles, distinct stop, short foreface, black nose. Pin k (Dudley) nose to be considered a serious fault. Eyes--Dark p referab le, but may bear some relation to coat color. Round, of mediu m size, and set to look straight ahead. Light eyes or pink eye rims to be considered a fault, except that where the coat surrounding the eye is white the eye rim may be p ink. Ears--Rose or half-pricked and not large. Fu ll drop or fu ll prick to be considered a serious fault. Mouth--A bite in which the outer side of the lower incisors touches the inner side of the upper incisors. The lips should be tight and clean. The badly undershot or overshot bite is a serious fault. Neck, Top line, B ody The neck is muscular, rather short, clean in outline and gradually widening toward the shoulders. The body is close coupled, with a level top line, wide front, deep brisket and well sprung ribs being rather light in the lo ins. The tail is undocked, of mediu m length, low set, tapering to a point and carried rather low. It should not curl much and may be likened to an old-fashioned pump handle. A tail that is too long or badly curled is a fault. Forequarters Legs straight and well boned, set rather far apart, without looseness at the shoulders and showing no weakness at the pasterns, from which point the feet turn out a little. Dewclaws on the forelegs may be removed. The feet should be well padded, strong and of med iu m size. Hi ndquarters The hindquarters should be well muscled, hocks let down with stifles well bent. Legs should be parallel when viewed fro m behind. Dewclaws, if any, on the hind legs are generally removed. Back feet point forward and should be well padded, strong and of medium size.

Coat Smooth, short and close to the skin, not to be trimmed or de-whiskered. Col or Red, fawn, wh ite, black or b lue, or any of these colors with white. Any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with wh ite. Black-andtan or liver color to be disqualified. Gait Free, powerfu l and agile with economy of effort. Legs moving parallel when viewed fro m front or rear. Discernible drive fro m hind legs. Temperament Fro m the past history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the modern dog draws its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity. This, coupled with its affection fo r its friends, and children in particu lar, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, makes it a foremost all-purpose dog.

In-coming President’s Report Greetings Membership, I know most of you got the Board email that went out recently and those of you who did not were personally contacted to explain what you would be missing if you did not want or could not receive emails. Thank you all for the support and kinds replies. My vision today is one toward better communication and transparency, healthier finances, and education for everyone (not just the judges). There are numerous ways to pursue these goals. The current SBTCA Board seems up for and is enthused about the challenge. Change is usually hard and often disruptive but change can be good because it is how we move forward. One question on my mind currently is in regards to a club’s function. What does the club do for you? What should we do? How can the club attract pet homes? How do we attract and keep members through good times and bad? I would love to hear all your thoughts. I feel one of the reasons for the club is to participate in ensuring the breed lives on by keeping people on the same page as much as possible and through education. Is that worthy enough on its own? Are we doing that? I would like to see more club impact in the SBT Performance world but we need performance members to help us. I would like to see more education for pet homes and new owners, as well as breeders and those who wish to rise up to become judges. We need the volunteers to bring the ideas, and the creativity to make this happen. We especially need participation in the club publication. The Staff Status needs your support more than any other piece of the club right now. In its current state it threatens to take the club down financially. We can lower the cost of ads but then we need even more ads to stay in the current state. Our magazine should be of interest to pet homes, performance homes and breeders and enthusiasts. Moving it online is a real option but that also has costs associated and may disappoint some people. We also need members. Membership is low now, just over 200 members. I would like to see 50 new members this year with only a very small percentage leaving. Ask your friends to join. Membership dues are the lifeblood of the club. We just need to ensure that we provide enough bang for the buck. I do hope this finds everyone well. Please know that my door is always open to chat or listen. I may not always say what you want me to say but I will always be responsive. In closing, I would like to say that we still need trophy sponsors for the National in Louisville KY, this March. We are still looking for committee members for the Judges Education, Health and Legislative committees. Sincerely, Lorelei Craig SBTCA President Editors Report Although a little late, your 2018 magazine was finished after weather delays (power outages) and just general busy life that everyone has from time to time. Thank you for your patience, and your support. Enjoy your magazine. Dana

The Due Date for the Top Stafford Issue is March 1st. This issue includes Gallery Of 2018 Champions
