el co me t o t hi s y ear ’s summer issue!! I hope you all like our spring issue. For this season, I want to show some our events and highlights. Another school year has passed and we are all looking to hit the beach and get that golden tan. We also looked forward to doing a whole lot of more service. We garnered a lot of attention this spring. April was packed with events and we were able to spread the name of Stony Brook Circle K more throughout campus and the community. This summer, we hoped to spread our name and our goals to other Circle K chapters by participating and cooperating in service projects in Queens, where a lot of Circle K members from surrounding universities gather together.
This issue also highlights the beginning of our Fall semester. We got a new meeting room, which is bigger and better and more inviting to new members. The involvement fair garnered a lot of interest from new students and in the first meeting, we had an attendance of over 70 students. With more members, we can brainstorm for more events, fundraisers and become a better Circle K club. This semester is also the time for us to spread our influence over the campus. So, stay tuned for incoming events and more news from us! Enjoy this newsletter and don’t forget to check out our website and Facebook page.

KTVSOCIAL After the Queens K-Family Event, a few SBU Circle K members planned a small meet-up to keep the feeling of fellowship within our club. This day also turned to be very special as it became a special covert mission to surprise our President, Amanda. Her birthday was only a few days away and we found that there was no other special way to celebrate but karaoke! The social was filled with laughs as our one member, Li Yi, shocked everyone with her rapping skills and performed an Eminem duet with another member, Ovaun. This was our first off-campus social and we hoped to do another one soon!

Walk for Kids
On June 20th, President Amanda and Editor Aprille volunteered to assist with a 5K run hosted by the Support the Kid Foundation. The run was held at a school close to campus which made it easier for our two members and four other friends to help out. The organization was created to support children with cancer and help ease the financial burden on these children and their families. With the
money raised, Support the Kid can help pay for the cost of treatment, lodging and meals. Amanda and Aprille were assigned with giving correct directions to the runners, ensuring that they all were on the right track and having fun. After that, we assisted with applying face paint on participants, adults and kids alike. This day was so much!! 15

DSSLP My experience at my first DLSSP was nothing short of amazing. As my first Circle K International event, I was surprised to see the variety of people that were involved with CKI at other universities. As soon as I arrived at Kamp Kiwanis, I instantly clicked with several people with whom I became acquainted. This carried on throughout the entire weekend, as I kept meeting spectacular people who shared a common interest: assisting a community. I felt the service projects that we completed connected us in a more significant way than just talking to each other, as they reminded us that the world is a big place and we should help those who cannot help themselves. That said, the service projects were not too strenuous, and there was ample time for hanging out and getting to know people without needing to work. I certainly enjoyed myself – from carrying picnic tables up a hill to the fashion show performance, to celebrating Katie’s birthday in our cabin with new friends. The people I met at Kamp Kiwanis are some of the coolest people I know, and I keep in touch with several of them on a practically daily basis. DLSSP was lit.
