Editor’s Note Redial is about looking back and recognizing the past. Appreciating the good, bad, and the ugly of our history for what it’s worth. And what we can do to remember our past experiences, by bringing them to life, all while staying current and relevant. We believe that our mistakes and mistrials have curated and molded us all into who we are today. Lessons will never forsake us, nor will they ever keep us from surviving and thriving into a better future. We are the trailbazers that will pioneer the way for future generations to come. Our guided path towards a better quality of respect, love, and life for each other and mother earth, will keep us bound and sane. It is our hope that Redial brings light, education, and fashion into your mind. Here, you can explore who you are, and who you can become. But always remember, reflection is a good thing, as long as you keep moving forward. Editor in Chief

is ever changing. Trends that used to change from season to season, have now shifted into a week by week switch up. So to keep up with the fast paced fashion lifecycle, we suggest acquiring timeless pieces that can easily be incorporated into your wardrobe. Accessories like belts and handbags have always been an easy way to spice up any look. However one piece that has stood the test of time, and is quite frankly one of the most versatile accessories is the silk scarf. With a strong history of artistry and luxe background, silk scarves have been beautifully crafted and have stood through the wear and tear of time, allowing them to be handed down through multiple generations. Throughout fashion history there have been infinite ways the fashion conscious have utilized this coveted accessory. In this editorial we’ve chosen iconic ways to incorporate your favorite silk scarf into a look that is perfect for the pool.

you have a more elongated scarf, try wearing it as a head wrap. Place the scarf on the upper center part of your forehead, and tie the two ends off in the back. You can secure the tie in a knot or bow, the choice is up to you; however, we suggest pairing it with glasses and chunky earrings to give off a cool vibe. Cowboy up and transform your scarf into a bandana style neck tie. Create this look by: Folding your scarf into a triangle, followed by folding the base of the triangle (straight side) towards the tip of the triangle, until you’re left with a smaller, triangular shape in the front. Tie around the nape of the neck, leaving a western-esque vibe, to rock at the pool. Are you diggin’ this Silky Silk vibe yet? If not, try wrapping your favorite, fun-patterned scarf around your bust, creating a bandeau top, that’ll keep you cool, while lounging by the pool.

FRANCISCO QUIROBA ILLUSTRATION & DESIGN
INTERVIEW BY: VICTORIA HOLLAN
MAY 18, 2018
SCAD ALUMNAS, Francisco Quiroba, is a twenty-five year old illustrator and designer, from Caracas, Venezuela. I recently had a phone conversation with the talented artist about his featured illustrations, and what inspired him to create such superb works of art. ON “BRKLYN” : With every piece I make, my intention is to spark a conversation between the piece and the viewer. With this piece I wanted to portray a moment of truth and intimacy. It’s almost an animated sequence where the subject shifts from vulnerability to empowerment. Particularly in this time in our culture where things are beginning to take a turn and women are claiming their rightful place and standing for what they deserve, I chose to portray a subject that asumes control of her body and her sexuality.
ON “BEAUTIFUL” : For the second piece I just wanted to reduce sensuality to it’s minimal expression. Beauty is so hard to define. It can have many names and shapes and meanings. But there’s something about the lips that imply so many things. Stripped out of everything else, and without saying a word, our lips alone reveal so much.

-YOUR DAD
HEY, HAVE YOU SEEN MY SHIRT? I WANNA TAKE IT TO FLORIDA.
Not Your Dad’s Tourist Shirt WORDS BY: VICTORIA HOLLAN
We all remember a time when we used to sneak into our mother’s closets and try on all her nice clothes and shoes. But seldom do I recall a time when snooping into my fathers wardrobe, was an exhilarating experience. Flash forward to present day, and everywhere I go I see not only college boys dressing in “Dad” attire, but I see more and more females, who look as if they took a dip into their father’s closets. New Balance sneakers, high white socks, and high rise khakis have been spotted in street styles for months; but one trend that is on the rise, and yet to be adapted by the mass public, are tourist shirts. Short sleeved, button down, fun-printed tops; that have anything from road maps, to fish, to flowers, and postcards, and pretty much anything eccentric, is acceptable on these old school garments. Layer your tourist shirt, over tanks, bikinis, or wear an oversized one alone; the styling choice is up to. But when you’re dad asks if that’s “his shirt,” you can simply reply, “Not anymore.” P H O T O G R A P H Y : A N D R E A R A M I R E Z REDIAL 37

inside MAD HOUSE INTERVIEW BY: VICTORIA HOLLAN
MAY 22, 2018
I sat down with recent SCAD graduate, Madison Muhlbaier, over coffee at a local Savannah cafe. We talked ceramics, fashion, and art inspiration, giving us all a little peak inside the brain of the MADHOUSE creator. What got you started in ceramics? Thinking back, I can remember the first bowl I made. I was in my middle school art class & it certainly didn’t turn out pretty. It wasn’t until I had a free elective at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) that I decided to try my hand again. Now, here we are today, 4 ceramic classes later and totally in love with the world of clay. What has influenced you as an artist or as an individual? I think having the opportunity to be at SCAD and being able to surround myself with insanely talented people on an everyday basis, has extremely influenced me as an artist. There is a constant flow of inspiration here and it allows me to push my creative limits and really think outside of the box. What made create, and
you want to be an artist?
Creativity doesn’t come easily to everyone, so I find myself very lucky to be able to express myself through art.
You do both ceramics and fashion marketing and management, how do the two relate for you? Obviously my marketing brain is always thinking about how I’m going to market and sell a piece I’ve created; but, honestly, they don’t really at all. correlate atcorrelate all. That’s what I love so much about what I do. Fashion marketing is a lot about problem solving and organization, so it’s nice to be able to take a break from that and get my hands dirty. Fashion has always been my main focus but my ceramic work allows me to step away from the What happy
makes about making
you work?
No handmade piece is ever perfect and there’s a certain sense of beauty in that. I love looking for the imperfections because they add character. Finger prints on a finished piece often annoys people but I enjoy leaving my little mark behind. REDIAL 58
How would you describe the themes of your work? I don’t like to use a lot of color but I think my work still embodies a fun and youthful feeling. What do you think are the most important things happening within the fashion or art industry today? I think there’s something to be said about the level of consciousness consumers are gaining. The fashion industry is one of the largest polluting industries and we as consumers are becoming educated enough to ask questions, challenge big businesses and demand change. Anything else you’d like to add? Don’t be afraid to do something different or a little bit out of your comfort zone, you may totally fall in love with it!

I’LL BE IN THE POOL WORDS BY: MEGAN BOYNTON
Spice up your poolside wardrobe this summer by adding a sprinkle of unexpected. Some may say a denim jacket in the pool is impractical, we say do it anyway, bc cute. Hack off the bottom for a raw hem and a cropped fit to show off just how high the leg of your suit sits. Finally, throw on a pair of your slimmest sunglasses to finish off the look.

Body Positivity WORDS BY: DARBY SIMKINS
All natural and no Photoshop, companies are jumping on the bandwagon of thicker models. I believe that is the best thing that can happen for the fashion industry. Why you may ask? Well because the average size in America is 16-18 which is large, compared to models sizes of 00-2. There is a new size in the fashion world with plus size models joining runways during New York Fashion week. Not only are we seeing more plus size models on the runways but there is so many new ad campaigns that are body positive. There are two main reasons why I believe more plus size models should be on the runway. First thing is its changes the way fashion is viewed. By being more inclusive it creates a positive image for the viewers. People are so use to seeing tiny girls on the runways so to have this change of scenery on the runways is amazing. Secondly, it helps the problems of eating disorders in the fashion industry. Girls are struggling to stay thin as bone to be able to walk the runway. More and more media articles are coming out about models dying because of malnorment, or they are passing out backstage.
This is a serious concern, even France have made laws about models having to meet a minimum size so they can walk on the runway. Coming from personal experience, eating disorders are not a joke and are very serious. I struggled with it and being able to look up to beautiful women who weren’t toothpick skinny, that had a little meat to their bones made me feel more comfortable with myself. Seeing plus sizes models on the runway helps create a more body positive side to fashion. Making it more open and inclusive gives many little girls role models that are completely diverse.

summer MUST HAVES Sunglasses, Bold Earrings and Dad Sneakers WORDS BY: DARBY SIMKINS
Why Dad Sneakers?
Believe it or not those shoes your dad was wearing 15 years ago are now a fashion statement for the summer. Paring dad sneaker, mom jeans and a graphic tee, maybe add some cat shape eye wear and BAM you have a trendy outfit for the summer! This shoe styles are being revamped into a more modern high fashion version. With brands like Balenciaga, FILA, Nike, Yeezy pushing the boundaries of the shoe design to create a one of the kind look for a dad sneaker. The most common color for the classic dad sneaker is white with black lines but designers are pulling an array of colors to combine within their shoe designs.
Get Bold with your Accessories Look for pieces that play with graphic art, plastics and organic shapes. Using colors of the summer to be the main inspiration, like bold blues, bright yellows and fun pinks. Keep your eye out for styles that look like fun fruits or red lips! If you don’t want to have to go out and buy new earrings well I got a solution for you! Mixing and matching is the new best thing to do with your earrings. Maybe grab a stud earring and combine that with a hoop earing and you just created a different vibe for your outfit.
Cat Eye Sunglasses Sunglasses are starting to become more popular with the bright sun rays beaming down on you. Frames like cat eye, thin cat eye, Foster, are all coming back from the 70s 80s and 90s. These frames are iconic but the designers are taking them and add their own twist to them, like exaggerating the thinness of the lenses or frames. Modernizing the lenses with colored glass like pinks, yellows, and light blue instead of the classic black lenses. Brands like Versace, Prada, MiuMiu and many more are innovation the classic frames and making them their own.

GEN Z
Generation Z is known for being screen addicts but I see it as they are brand managers of their own personal brand. They are constantly on their phones which is perfect for the retail industry, cause it opens the door to advertising. Gen Z will have a huge amount of power by 2020 since they will be around 40% of the population. Not only that but Gen Z is interested in causes for the world, they feel they have a vote in what goes, which isn’t good for the industry. SO this is where the problem starts, Gen Z have different “wants” in a retail space than most generations. Now we understand what is wrong here, let’s talk about their “wants and needs” in a retail space.
WORDS BY: DARBY SIMKINS
Gen Zers as we know are screen addicted, so in a retail space they must be mobile friendly. That is from free wifi, to store apps that help you, to just having the ability to price compare online before buying an item. They use their phones to their advantage and if the retail industry doesn’t get ahead of them then they will lose clients. Mobile friendly brands help improve the process by making it easier, more efficient, and improves the experience. REDIAL 88
PHOTOGRAPHY: AUDREY O’DONNELL CREATIVE DIRECTION & STYLING: DARBY SIMKINS EMILY ECKARD
Next we move into the realm of customization and control. Gen Zers want to be in CONTROL of everything they could possible have a say in. They want to control where things are sourced from to the color of shoes laces they can get. It’s a wide range and it cause problems that take time for the retail industry to work with. Gen Zers have learned that as a group they have a say in what goes and that is a difficult thing to work around for the industry. If the retail industry takes the time to enhance their experiences in any way shape or form they will be one step closer to the “wants” of Gen Zers.

Accidental Icon: Iris Apfel WORDS BY: Emily Eckard
Blending in never fit the life style of fashion icon Iris Apfel. The ninety-six yearold is still going strong with her fashion choice no matter what they look like. Iris’s iconic style is to pair different layers of bright colors and huge oversized glasses with large over the top jewelry together. With this she became someone that many people look up to as an inspiration not only for fashion but in life as well. Iris was born in New York and was an only child as she grew up she married her husband and they started a textile company together called Old World Weavers. During this time, she and her husband Carl Apfel worked on many projects which included work on the White House for nine different presidents. Through their business the couple started to travel the world to find textiles that would work for their business the couple started to travel the

Why Don’t You Shave?.......... why don’t you fuck off? WORDS BY: Emily Eckard
REDIAL 96
Throughout time, women have begun to claim their bodies as their own again, and with they have decided body hair is natural. In today’s day and age, we are seeing more and more women rebel against what we as a society is the norm-they are not shaving anything. Women were commonly known to shave everything on their body- from their arm pit hair to the legs, arms, and most commonly vagina. Society made it seem that if you didn’t shave you were gross and not sexy to the male counterpart. Women decided enough was enough and relived they didn’t need to shave to be beautiful. Beauty comes from within and that truly says a lot about how someone thinks and goes through life. Women are feeling empowered when it comes to their body and they should. It is our bodies and we should be the only ones that determines what should be done to it. Life is hard enough without the judgment of society and
how women should be perceived. No women should feel uncomfortable and should love who they are, no matter if they have baby smooth shaved skin or long braided arm pit hair. Us women are truly amazing and are resilient to what the world thinks of us and that does not stop us from shaving or not s having, running for office, or become the first female creative director in a fashion house’s history. As women we need to stay strong and stand for what we truly believe in and yes that may differ from each other, but as women we should respect the choices of each other and not judge or comment on the body type, hair length, color, or if we shave our legs or not. 12 Reasons to Rock A Full Bush By: Rachel Krantz Evolution Gave you Pubes For a Reason You’ll Be Less Likely To Contract An STD ... History has a way of showcasing men and everything that they accomplished over the years, but little is really showcased on the women that are helping make the world better and brighter every day. As a society we have lost sight of how important it is to showcase not only the accomplishments of men but also women. Women are not just people that stay at home and produce children to carry on their husbands last name, women are here to make a stand and show that they are very capable of being more that what society expects them to be. Throughout this article I have decided to showcase different women that mean something to this world and what they have done to make it better. These women include former First Lady Michelle Obama, award winning author Toni Morrison, human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, a female Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and CEO and Chairman Mary Barra. Former First Lady Michelle Obama, is married to the forty fourth President of the United States of America. She is from Chicago Illinois and was the first African American First Lady. Michelle graduated from Princeton University and then Harvard Law School. During her time as the First Lady she became a role model for young women and women in general. he also advocated for poverty awareness, education, nutrition,
physical activity, and healthy eating. Award winning author Toni Morrison is known for her Pulitzer Prize winning book Beloved. Toni was born in Lorain, Ohio. Growing up Toni experienced a lot of hardship growing up for example, her landlord set fire to her family home because her parents couldn’t afford the rend. As time went on Toni attended Howard University and Cornell University. Beloved was a very strong work of art that stood for what occurred during slavery and how it affected the slaves. Toni also stood as a symbol of African American awareness as well as a feminist. Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education. She stands for the rights for young women in Pakistan mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the Taliban had banned girls from attending school. As a young girl Malala was an activist for girls attending school and one day in October her and two other classmates were shot by the Taliban in retaliation for activism. After the shooting she became even more interested in the right to education. She founded the Malala Fund to help young girls attend school.Sandra Day O’Connor was the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She was appointed by Ronald Reagan. Before being appointed to the Supreme Court she was the first Majority Leader of a state. She was considered a federalist and moderate Republican. As time went on she was REDIAL 101
As time went on she was considered one of the most powerful women in the world. In 2012, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor in the United States. General Motors and Chairman Mary Barra is the first female CEO of a major global automaker. Marry was born in Royal Oak, Michigan. She attended Kettering University, Sandford University, and Duke University. Mary started to work in the automobile industry when she was only eighteen years old. In 2016, she was listed as one of the most powerful women in Forbes for the fifth time. She has also been featured in Fortune as one of the most Powerful Women and Time’s as “100 Most Influential People in the World.”

Coachella being a weekend long
music festival, fashion is a major factor that also takes place during this weekend. The fashion for Coachella is fun and bright and very boho. Lots of shorts, printed tee and tanks, lace tops, oversized metal necklaces, fun sunglasses, booties and sandals. Lots of tie die and bandanas with hair being braided. Large hats are also a major staple when it comes to Coachella. Since the music festival is in the hot desert in California having fun and flowy clothing is the main objective. Being fun and out of the box is also very important when it comes to the fashion at Coachella. WORDS BY: Emily Eckard
