TRAD Hire & Sales A 20-Year Success Story

Solutions, systems and people are still the driving force behind the ethos of a group celebrating two decades of excellence in service.

The scaffolding industry may have changed considerably in the past 20 years with a much greater emphasis on health and safety. But in terms of Trad Hire And Sales, much remains the same in the most positive fashion imaginable. This of course, is the secret of their success according to CEO Des Moore (pictured) who told me: “As well as offering some innovative products and systems, we can also give clients first class advice based on our in-house depth of knowledge and experience. This is why the vast majority of our customers return.” Des Moore has brilliantly guided the company for more than 25 years. And what’s more,TRAD Divisional Directors have more than 75 years’ service between them and 100 years’ combined experience in the access industry. Their hire and sales department has the resources and capability to meet every demand from under pressure clients. It’s this attention to detail that really makes the company stand out from the rest.

Since joining the ALTRAD Group almost five years ago, the TRAD Group has received substantial investments totalling £10 million, resulting in a staggering 70 per cent growth rate to date. They began life as a small concern with depots in London, Stockport and Cardiff, with the latter eventually being closed down. But new depots emerged in Scotland, Leeds and Birmingham, enhancing their presence across the UK. The rest as they say, is history.

Two decades of continual progress, a strong client base and the emergence of some world class products. Des explained: “There’s been a constant drive to modular scaffolding systems, and this will certainly continue well into the future. And of course, health and safety is getting much better all the time, though we still have a way to go. Our industry has many more highly skilled workers, and stronger confederation membership has ensured standards remain at their highest.” This forward thinking CEO has also been instrumental in the push for greater emphasis on both mental health, and a strategy to get more women into senior posts. ‘Inspiration’, is the key word here, and something felt by the company workforce on a daily basis. “Taking the whole group into consideration and not just the sales and hire area, we actually have a small but knowledgeable team overseeing a large organisation. In real terms, there’s a small group of people managing everything. But it works, largely because we’ve been able to retain the staff who have grown with the company.” It’s true to say you don’t become of the highest reputable names in the business over-night. The winning formula for the success enjoyed by Trad Hire and Sales lies in returning clients, wonderful testimonials and the provision of a service that still remains second to none. Des added: “Our diversity is a key strength, as it’s not good business sense to be overly reliant on any one area of the marketplace. The staff and clients are a company’s greatest assets so we continually invest in our people,

“Being the President of the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation ( NASC), is a great honour and I aim to drive increased mentoring and training for staff and operatives within the scaffolding sector, while also encouraging more women into senior positions within the industry in general.” Trad Hire and Sales refuse to stand still in an ever changing world, and it seems the next 20 years promises to be even more exciting as technology advances further. It’s also clear, this is a people company with an ethos held up as an industry beacon. SM
