SCANIA PERFORMANCE
Powered for productivity. Driving a Scania for the first time is quite a sensation. The chassis is perfectly balanced, the steering and controls are precise. Handling and stability are outstanding, letting the driver focus on traffic, not the vehicle. The high-torque low-rev philosophy has always been a Scania trademark. This lives on in the new Scania Euro 6 engines, meeting the toughest emission legislation in the world with uncompromised operating economy and performance. The Scania global engine platform leaves you close to unlimited options. In combination with your choice of gearbox and gearchanging system, you’re bound for maximum productivity. All Scania engines and transmissions are designed and developed inhouse at Scania to ensure technological synergies and optimised performance.
Scania V8 engines With output levels ranging from 500 hp to the impressive 730 hp V8 with 3500 Nm, Scania is the undisputed leader in this prestigious segment. In addition to the inspiring driveabillity of a Scania V8, these engines also offer outstanding reliability, durability and an impressive fuel economy. See the full V8 engine range on page 35.
6
Environmental options for every demand The uniquely wide Scania engine range offers options in every emission level, such as Euro 6 and EEV, using both Scania EGR and SCR technologies. Most Scania engines run perfectly well on biodiesel. There are also ethanol and biogas versions. For operations with even higher environmental demands the Ecolution by Scania concept delivers profitable CO2 performance with a combination of vehicle specifications and services. Ecolution by Scania is available for every application. Learn more on www.scania.com.
Inline engines The Scania 5- and 6-cylinder inline engine range offers a unique freedom of choice, providing perfect performance for all long-haulage applications. From the compact 9-litre 5-cylinder engines starting at 230 hp to the 480 hp 13-litre inline 6-cylinder. They offer a magnificent torque-topower ratio even at low revs, building the foundation of the legendary Scania driveability and fuel economy. See the full inline engine range on page 35.
SCANIA PERFORMANCE
Scania Opticruise The Scania Opticruise transmission system is available in a fully automated version or with a classic clutch pedal, according to your own preference. The shift strategy adapts gearchanges to the style of driving, the load and to the inclination of the road, making it possible to keep up the speed all the way to the crest – without fuel penalty. It changes gears faster and smoother, giving outstanding comfort, control and fuel economy. Several parameters in the control software can be adjusted to tailor the characteristics to your specific needs. For more transmission options, see page 35.
Millimetre precision It isn’t close until it’s really close. The fully automated Scania Opticruise is a wonder to manoeuvre in standard mode. And if you switch to the manoeuvring mode, it’s all about millimetre precision. The Scania Opticruise excels in hilly conditions. Starting is a breeze, since it automatically picks the right starting gear depending on inclination and load.
8
Scania Retarder The Scania Retarder is a highly efďŹ cient auxiliary braking system, completely integrated with the service and exhaust brakes. It is now available in two performance steps, giving you the option to choose the right retarder for your operation. The classic version offers great all-round performance with maintained fuel economy, while the newly introduced version, with a higher retarder gear ratio, improves braking performance at low speeds. The Scania Retarder provide a precise and effortless downhill speed control, easily manageable via the brake pedal or lever, or via the speed control buttons on the steering wheel. This technology saves time and money by keeping average speeds up and brake wear down.
In perfect balance It’s a special feeling to drive a Scania truck. The excellent handling and overall stability are combined with precise steering feedback and balanced suspension comfort. ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is available as an option.
SCANIA FUEL ECONOMY
Better fuel economy from every angle. Stepping into a Scania truck, you are surrounded by more than 100 years of experience and expertise in fuel economy. We know that the critical factors in the equation boil down to three cornerstones: the vehicle, the driver and the service. Within this approach we are exploiting a multitude of possibilities to improve fuel economy and minimise the environmental impact for our customers.
10
Fuel CO2
Driver – save up to 10% Even an experienced driver can improve his or her fuel economy by up to 10% with driver training supplied by Scania. With new technology like Scania Driver Support the skills and technique are maintained at a high level.
Vehicle – save up to 10% The powertrain is a crucial first step to improved fuel economy. Aerodynamics, weight optimisation, tyres and various driver support systems are other important factors.
Service – save up to 10% Your Scania workshop helps you to keep an eye on axle alignment, tyre pressures, air deflector adjustment and lubrication in order to keep your Scania just as fuel efficient as it was on delivery.
11
SCANIA FUEL ECONOMY
Scania Opticruise Automated gearchanging ensures that gear selection is always optimised for best fuel economy.
Aerodynamics The aerodynamic design of your Scania is carefully wind-tunnel tested to ensure maximised performance. By adding sideskirts together with roof and side air deflectors, you can reduce air resistance even more.
Scania Fleet Management Scania Fleet Management is a set of services that delivers useful information and statistics wirelessly from your fleet – to wherever you are. This means great possibilities to increase efficiency for the entire fleet as well as for an individual vehicle or driver. Scania Fleet Management consists of three straightforward service packages: Monitoring, Analysis and Control. The functionality ranges from easy-access vehicle overviews via mail to advanced fleet positioning services with full digital map display. Use the packages separately or as an integrated solution to unleash the full potential of modern telecom support.
Scania Driver Support system The Scania Driver Support system gives the driver individual hints and feedback on the driving with safety and fuel economy as key parameters. It works in real time during driving and delivers a summary after a completed assignment. The system is designed to work in line with the Scania Driver Training program in order to maintain the results after training. Results and feedback are displayed in the central instrument, making it fun and safe to challenge yourself to keep the fuel consumption as good as possible. With Scania Driver Support even more drivers can improve their driving performance.

SCANIA DRIVER FOCUS
The place to be. Many drivers regard the driver’s seat of a Scania truck as one of the most desirable workplaces in the world. Everything is within sight, within reach and easy to control. The styling, materials and finish ooze of quality as you let your eyes and fingers discover the interior. Notice how smart the storage facilities are arranged. Try out the comfortable bed. Adjust your seat to perfection. Then turn the key and the fun really begins.
15
SCANIA DRIVER FOCUS
Intuitive and ergonomic The driver station of a Scania is easy to understand, operate and interact with. All the information needed is displayed in the instrument cluster, while steering wheel controls for cruise control, instrument navigation and audio are all within thumbs’ reach. Storage is always logically placed and easy to reach while driving, letting the driver focus on the trafďŹ c.
Active safety approach Scania has an active safety approach. By providing the driver with maximum vehicle control, handling, brake performance and a sound working environment we focus on preventing accidents instead of just minimising their effects.
Safety support systems One part of the active safety approach is supporting the driver with high-tech systems, such as: • Adaptive cruise control – keep a constant gap to the vehicles ahead. • Lane departure warning – warns the driver if the vehicle is about to cross road markings. • Electronic stability program – this active safety system reduces the risk of overturning and skidding.
Let your Scania reflect your personality You can have your Scania truck reflect your own taste, personality and corporate identity in a multitude of ways. The interior can be specified with a broad choice of textiles, upholstery materials, colours and trim details and the Scania multicolour concept opens up for individual paint schemes.
17
