Dear Valued Members and Friends,

What a year this has been! There was so much good in this year, not just the headlines that have upended what we have always known. This year has ushered in so many highs—we welcomed the Sanibel Sea School Ryan Orgera Linda Uhler staff and Communications Director Barbara Linstrom to the SCCF family; we had a banner sea turtle nesting season; we played an important role in identifying and relocating box turtles stolen by an international ring of wildlife criminals; we received and now protect even more Gulf front land on North Captiva; and so much more. Until the pandemic ended our ability to gather, we enjoyed many events including world-renowned Dr. Sylvia Earle’s presentation at the Second Annual Paul McCarthy Memorial Speaker Series presentation. SCCF’s Fiscal Year 2019-2020 was so much more than just COVID-19. Our good nature marches on despite the derailments we are all living through. Our snowy plovers continue to be amazing parents—they did not get the memo that the world is different. Our beaches continue to house a record number of sea turtle nests, including six from the rare leatherback species. Our environment, however, continues to face challenges. The Caloosahatchee continues to experience harmful algal blooms. Our pollinators continue to be in crisis. Our natural world continues to need our efforts, efforts fueled by friends like you. There are so many reasons to run to our corners, to try to reinforce differences, but the beauty of Sanibel and Captiva, and the beauty of nature is that it brings us all together. It is truly the tie that binds. Whether you care more about economics, biology, tourism or health, no matter how you cut it, nature is the backbone of our Southwest Florida way of life. Without clean beaches, without clean water, without open spaces to filter our waters and give critters space to roam, none of our economic systems work here. A healthy environment is the primary engine for all that we hold dear—it is not abstract, the connection is not loose, it is directly responsible for the overall health of our region. Your continuing investment in SCCF is truly an investment in our islands, region, and state.

We are using the lows of the year, like COVID-19, to make sure we have the highest return possible on mission and investment. We work hard to make sure that SCCF is efficient and impactful. Part of achieving that is making sure we are as resilient as our nature is. We are creating an institution that can absorb bumps in the road, hurricanes, red tides, and now, even pandemics. We believe we owe it to each and every one of you to make sure our institution is ready for whatever may come, even the unexpected. As we look back on such an incredible year, and forward to an uncertain future, we take solace in the fact that we have such a true family of supporters who care for our natural world, who believe in SCCF, and who want a brighter future for our land, water, and wildlife. All our best,

Ryan Orgera Linda Uhler CEO President

Water Quality Research

Staff conducts maintenance on a wave buoy in the Gulf of Mexico.

Red Tide Events Captured

RECON Providing Nutrient Data

The Marine Lab led ten field campaigns to collect phytoplankton, oceanographic, and nutrient samples in the Caloosahatchee and Gulf of Mexico. Staff monitored two red tide events and several other harmful algal blooms. The results were presented at the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation conference in Mobile, AL, in 2019 and will be presented at the American Water Resources Association.

Through collaborations and successful grant writing, the Marine Lab ramped up its efforts to deploy nitrogen and phosphorus sensors that provide continuous nutrient data for the Caloosahatchee through RECON (River, Estuary and Coastal Observing Network). The estuary requires a balance of water flow, timed to maintain a salinity gradient that results in good water quality and supports the seagrass and oyster habitats along with other fish species and invertebrates. Continuous monitoring of nutrients enhances our ability to assess water quality with respect to flows.

Marine Lab Selected as Test Site

Mark Thompson measures water to be filtered for nutrients and chlorophyll.

The Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observation System (GCOOS) sent five nutrient sensors for field testing. Because of the reliability, duration, and track record of RECON, our Lab was selected along with the U.S. Geological Survey, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium, Dauphin

Island Sea Lab, and the University of Texas Marine Science Institute to carry out testing throughout the Gulf.

Water Quality of Ponds & Canals In collaboration with the City of Sanibel, the Marine Lab provided a water quality assessment of ponds and canals by sampling and analyzing water samples. Funded by the City, the project educates citizens on the water quality in their neighborhoods through the Communities for Clean Water website and initiative (sanibelcleanwater.org).

Oyster & Seagrass Collaborations The Marine Lab collaborated with FGCU (Florida Gulf Coast University) on a study of oyster larvae transport to identify potential restoration sites. This research project took advantage of Summer undergraduate interns assisted on a field study to determine the abundance of bivalve larvae and the settlement of Eastern oysters (Crassostrea virginica). The study included ten sites in Pine Island Sound, Matlacha Pass, San Carlos Bay, and the lower Caloosahatchee estuary near Shell Point.

Captiva Seeks Input on Water Quality The Captiva Community Panel and the Wastewater Committee sought advice again from the Marine Lab about how Captiva’s septic systems are affecting water quality. As Captivans explore plans to replace septic systems with central sewer, the Marine Lab collected samples from groundwater and surface water in 2010 to evaluate water quality. In 2020, the panel sought advice on how sea level rise and storm surges would affect water quality.

Funding Received for 9 Projects The Marine Lab staff successfully received funding for nine research projects focused on water quality monitoring, understanding the effects of water quality on seagrass, harmful algal blooms, and oyster reef restoration and monitoring.

Funded by the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), FGCU was awarded a $264K grant to collaborate with SCCF on mapping where seagrasses occur and relate to water quality. The Marine Lab will receive about $100K of the grant to fund enhanced seagrass and water quality monitoring in the Caloosahatchee estuary, from I-75 to the Sanibel Causeway.

FGCU Professor Felix Jose and a student collect bivalve larvae on the RV Norma Campbell.

Adapting to COVID-19 By following CDC guidelines, scientists were still able to conduct field and lab work despite impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, our new Lab facility offers twice as much space as our old building and allowed for safe social distancing. Although we had sensor malfunctions and two boat strikes on pilings with our equipment, RECON continued to provide critical water quality data. The equipment from boat-stricken pilings was successfully recovered on both occasions with some damage to the weather station at one site. Funding for a new weather station was approved for 2021 though a local grants program. A segrass map indicating manatee habitat on the eastern end of Sanibel.

Policy and Advocacy

A Fond Farewell to Rae Ann Wessel

Policy Progress Report EVERGLADES RESTORATION In May, we celebrated the career of Natural Resource Policy Director Rae Ann Wessel, as she retired after 14 years with SCCF. Her leadership, dedication, and ability to teach with compassion had a major influence on how our communities connect with our ecosystems and how policy makers view our natural resources. A final tribute came from the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce, which named Rae Ann as its 2019-2020 Citizen of the Year. Rae Ann’s talent and hard work guided the policy department from its origins at SCCF and led to a pinnacle in many areas from Everglades restoration projects nearing completion to the protection of wetlands at the local level. Our focus is to continue to build on those successes by using science and data paired with the art of communication as Rae Ann did so well.

4 | SCCF — SANIBEL-CAPTIVA CONSERVATION FOUNDATION

• Advocated for progress locally and regionally. The federal budget for Everglades restoration increased from $63 million to $200 million in 2020. • Followed the C-43 Reservoir water quality feasibility study scheduled to be completed in December 2020. • Reported on the removal of asphalt from the Old Tamiami Trail to restore historical water flow to the lower Everglades and Everglades National Park. • Tracked the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) storage reservoir “new start” designation that delayed the start of federally-authorized construction on the reservoir for at least one year. The design phase continues with project completion expected by 2028. The EAA reservoir is a part of the Central Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) and is designed to improve water quality and quantity in the Everglades. • Screened the film Troubled Waters at the first Evenings at the Homestead program in November 2019. A panel discussion followed, focusing on the Blue-Green Algae Task Force and public health issues. • Played a leadership role in organizing the 35th Annual Everglades Coalition Conference held at South Seas Island Resort with discussion topics that included progress on project funding at the federal and state level and the value of Everglades restoration to small businesses.

The opening plenary panel of the Everglades Coalition Conference, moderated by Rae Ann Wessel, featured a panel discussion with Adam Blalock, Chauncey Goss, Dr. Mike Parsons, Gary Ritter, and Marisa Carrozzo. Statewide representation at Everglades Action Day in Tallahassee.

From L to R: Ryan Orgera; Colonel Andrew Kelly, Commander of the Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Charlette Roman, South Florida Water Management District Governing Board member; Rae Ann Wessel; Lieutenant Colonel Todd Polk, Deputy District Commander, South Florida, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District.

WATER QUALITY • Produced weekly Caloosahatchee Condition Reports on behalf of local stakeholders. These reports inform policy makers on ecosystem-appropriate water delivery operations. • Submitted comments to the Blue-Green Algae and the Red Tide Task Forces advocating for storm water regulation updates, biosolid reforms, verification of effective Best Management Practices (BMPs) for agriculture, and increased funding for septic-to-sewer conversions, all of which were addressed in some form in the Task Forces’ first consensus documents. • Partnered on a petition to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to establish a science-based standard for cyanotoxins (blue-green algae toxins) on human health with regulations to include testing of water, air, and sand to understand the range of toxins and their dynamics during blooms. • Participated with water quality stakeholders to impact SB 712, the Clean Waterways Act, the session’s successful comprehensive water quality legislation which also contained elements of the recommendations from the Blue-Green Algae and Red Tide Task Forces. The groundbreaking for the C-43 reservoir was held in October 2019 and construction has finally begun after a multi-decade fight to get some relief for the Caloosahatchee and its estuary.

GROWTH MANAGEMENT • LEGISLATIVE PROGRESS — Rallied support for funding of the Florida Forever land acquisition program and opposition to the anti-growth management bill, SB 410, which was ultimately vetoed by the Governor. • EDEN OAK — Coordinated with neighborhood advocates and presented evidence to the Lee County Hearing Examiner to oppose the destruction of wetlands in the coastal high hazard zone. • MID-STATE TOLL ROAD — Joined the No Roads to Ruin Coalition to actively oppose the unneeded, prohibitively expensive, and environmentally destructive project. Its impacts would be disastrous for our state's water quality. • SKY GLOW — Initiated “Dark Sky” changes to municipal land development codes to mitigate the increasingly bright night sky glow that leads to sea turtle hatchling disorientations. While the City of Sanibel has already adopted sea turtle protection ordinances, others have not. ANNUAL REPORT FY2019-2020 | 5

Sea Turtles and Shorebirds

Volunteer Allen Dunham reaches deep to inventory a leatherback nest. The smaller "spacer" eggs at the bottom of the photo are unfertilized eggs.

Sea Turtles - Six Decades of Conservation After encouragement from J.N. “Ding” Darling in 1959, Charles LeBuff expanded his sea turtle monitoring and research program, paving the way for decades of sea turtle conservation efforts on Sanibel. When the program was transferred to SCCF in 1992, 133 loggerhead (Caretta caretta) nests were laid on Sanibel and 75 nests were laid on Captiva. Fast forward to today, and the nest counts are now up to a record-breaking 660 and 266, respectively, in 2020. This amazing 396% increase on Sanibel and 255% increase on Captiva is likely the result of over 60 years of concerted conservation efforts both on the beaches and at sea.

2020 Season Highlights • Juniper, a leatherback, nested on our beaches six times! Our colleagues at Florida Leatherbacks, Inc., placed a satellite transmitter on her, and for the first time ever an endangered leatherback was tracked after nesting on the Gulf coast of Florida. • Our annual tagging project was very successful, with 139 new turtles and 49 returning turtles identified. These data are an important way to learn more about the behavior of our nesting population. • The Florida RESTORE Act Centers of Excellence program funded a large-scale, 2-year research project to study how the 2018 red tide event may have affected the health and reproductive success of loggerheads nesting on Sanibel. • We entered the final stages of a research project looking at the effects of groundwater on the nest incubation environment and hatchling sex ratios.

Charles LeBuff 1973

Volunteers Appreciated More than Ever Out of an abundance of caution, our extremely passionate and dedicated sea turtle team, assisted by other SCCF staff, handled the first several weeks of nesting season without volunteers due to COVID-19. Thankfully, our 100 volunteers were able to rejoin us in late May to help mark and document nests, protect the eggs from predators, monitor each nest throughout incubation, and evaluate success rates after hatchling emergence. 6 | SCCF — SANIBEL-CAPTIVA CONSERVATION FOUNDATION

• For the first time ever, three loggerheads were satellite tagged after successfully nesting on Sanibel. Junonia, Periwinkle, and Pepper will be part of a study to learn more about the post-nesting movements, migratory pathways, and foraging grounds of loggerheads that nest on the Gulf coast of Florida. Since all three nested here during the 2018 red tide bloom, the data will also inform a research project investigating the long-term impacts of red tide events on the health and reproductive success of nesting sea turtles. • We hired two full-time biologists this year. Sea turtle conservation is becoming increasingly complex in the face of coastal development, climate change, rising seas, ocean plastics, habitat loss, and a wide variety of emerging and worsening threats. SCCF is committed to addressing these challenges through research, education, training, and advocacy. Our goal is to protect these animals through targeted on-the-ground measures that reduce pressure on sea turtles and their habitats, improving their chances of survival. We look forward to continuing the success of our long-term program into the future!

A 12-day-old snowy plover chick.

Shorebirds Increasing Monitoring Efforts SCCF’s Shorebird Program started in 2002, when staff began monitoring nesting snowy plovers on Sanibel and Captiva. The program expanded over the last 18 years with the help of staff, interns, volunteers, and several partner agencies. In that time, hundreds of shorebird nests were protected, and hundreds of chicks monitored until fledging. Recognizing the ever-increasing threats facing shorebirds and declining populations worldwide, SCCF enhanced monitoring efforts. In 2017, staff resumed a bird banding and resighting program, and began a year-round program to assess the status of resident and migratory shorebirds on the Gulf beaches of Sanibel, Captiva, and North Captiva. COVID-19 complicated things for the 2020 nesting season, but staff were able to continue monitoring and research, while following recommended protocols.

Snowy plovers are banded for research purposes.

SHOREBIRD NUMBERS Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus) (Sanibel) • 5 nesting pairs • 5 chicks fledged • 6 nests • 5 hatched • 1 failed (canine predator)

Least Terns (Sternula antillarum) (Sanibel) - First colony failed due to crows - Second round failed due to coyote predation - Birds abandoned

Least Terns (North Captiva) - Predation from canine predators and crows - Remaining nests washed over by Tropical Storm Cristobal - Birds abandoned

Wilson’s Plovers (Charadrius wilsonia) (Sanibel): - 2 nesting pairs - 0 chicks fledged - 4 nests - 1 hatched - 3 failed (1 washover - 1 crow - 1 canine predator) Wilson’s Plovers (North Captiva) - 2 pairs - 2 nests - 1 chick fledged - 1 failed (unknown cause)

Environmental Education

Virtual Hugs for Doc Bruce Staff and supporters of the Sanibel Sea School shared their love and appreciation virtually for Bruce Neill, co-founder of the Sanibel Sea School, when he retired from his 14-year role as Executive Director in May. Doc Bruce, who founded the innovative educational organization in 2005 with his wife, Evelyn, relocated to California to be with his family. A big fan of hugs, it was a tough time for him to leave, but he carries the mission close to his heart, as well as his love for the Sanibel and Captiva community. He was grateful to hand off leadership to Nicole Finnicum, who began as an educator in 2013, as she stepped up to the role of director, and to Shannon Stainken, who came on board in 2017, as she took on a bigger role in leading education.

Island Skills Camp 2019 In 2019, over 1,000 kids and teenagers from Florida, the Midwest, New England, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland attended our Island Skills camp. We had a summer filled with exploration, beautiful Gulf waters, and lots of ocean memories made for our campers.

Upgrades to Heart of Sanibel Sea School In fall of 2019, our beloved Richard C. Kennedy building, the heart of Sanibel Sea School, underwent some much-needed improvements to enhance the safety of our classroom space and to preserve our building for years to come. Through generous donor support, we replaced our roof, upgraded our electrical systems, refinished the Florida pine hardwood floors, and refreshed the exterior paint. To celebrate the upgrades, we hosted a fun, festive Luminary event in early December that also served as a celebration of joining forces with SCCF!

A Lesson in Adaptation COVID-19 had significant impacts on Sanibel Sea School, financially and programmatically. The education team at Sanibel Sea School took

this challenge head-on and quickly pivoted to creating virtual programming for kids and adults. By launching Nature Near You — a weekly e-newsletter that featured activities to encourage backyard exploration and discovery — our creative educators shared engaging activities, art projects, and experiments that kids could do safely at home. Marine Science Educators also pivoted to virtual camp in June 2020 and engaged 92 participants by quickly adapting to distance learning.

SCHOLARSHIPS - OCEAN EDUCATION FOR ALL More than 25% of our participants received scholarships, and we granted 100% of the scholarship requests we received. OUR DONOR-SUPPORTED SCHOLARSHIP FUND MADE POSSIBLE: ■ scholarships for our day programs. ■ scholarships for our weekly summer or winter camps. ■ Field trips for school children in Lee, Collier, and Hendry counties. ■ Meaningful experiences for landlocked children. ■ in financial support for teens to participate in coral reef expeditions to the Florida Keys or Belize. ■ in financial support for all summer camp locations. ■ Monthly Community Camp Days on school holidays for children. ■ Scholarships for adults to attend programs.

Restores Mangroves

No Child Left On Shore

By partnering with the City of Sanibel and MANG, a high-performance apparel and gear company dedicated to coastal restoration, Coastal Watch planted 250 red mangrove propagules to fortify existing mangroves along a section of Woodring Road that is subject to shoreline degradation and erosion.

SCCF has partnered with Captiva Cruises on No Child Left On Shore (NCLOS) since 2010. This hands-on program gives the children of Southwest Florida an informative and fun way to learn about the ecology of our marine environment. Due to COVID-19, we weren’t able to conduct as many NCLOS field trips this year. However, we were able to take highly enthused students from Gulf Middle School and Southwest Florida College out on the water to experience our coastal habitats.

SCCF & The Sanibel School SCCF continues to support the environmental curriculum at The Sanibel School by conducting field trips to SCCF’s Pick Preserve, located across the street from the school, as well as classroombased activities focusing on the ecology of Southwest Florida. Mike Mills shows the kids how he tracks box turtles (Terrapene carline bauri) with radio telemetry.

The Launch Raises Funds for Coastal Watch Coastal Watch held its third annual fundraising event, The Launch, on November 16, 2019, raising funds for conservation initiatives that will preserve our oceans and estuaries for future generations.

BYOB Decreases Single-Use Plastic Bags Since the beginning of the BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) program, Coastal Watch has given away more than 20,000 reusable bags. Our BYOB bags can be found at Bailey’s General Store, Sanibel Siesta, Sanibel Moorings, and MacIntosh Books & Paper. The Sanibel Shell Festival even switched away from single-use plastic and distributed the BYOB at their annual event in March 2020! Hands-on learning in the bay.

Land & Wildlife NATIVE LANDSCAPES & GARDEN CENTER Transforming landscapes, one plant at a time. The Native Landscapes & Garden Center’s role is to help people convert their landscapes to be more sustainable, and by doing so, better appreciate our local native plants, the role they play, and the wildlife they support. Our goal is to teach people how to make deliberate and thoughtful alterations that will result in a greater diversity of species, for the health of our islands, Florida, and the planet. Our Native Landscape demonstration gardens offer a living laboratory of how to transform your own property. At five years old, the gardens showcase native species and their growth rates, companion plantings, and how wildlife depends on them. Our Garden Center offers a place to start making those changes, whether by planting one wildflower or transforming your whole landscape. Expert staff can assist you in picking out plants appropriate for your particular situation. Our Landscaping for Wildlife consultation program is a way to learn exactly what is in your own backyard by meeting one-on-one with our native plant professionals who offer practical steps in transitioning to a living landscape. As change is constant, our efforts to reach our residents, visitors, and supporters adapted to the necessary constraints of the pandemic. This spring, the Garden Center moved itself to a virtual space, setting up an online store and offering contactless deliveries and curbside pickups. The convenience of perusing our plant selection and ordering online has been popular, and we anticipate continuing the online store to better serve our members.

Innovative Educational Offerings We challenge you to look at plants in a different and closer way. This year’s educational programs focused on doing just that. Ellen Zachos delivered a fascinating presentation and taste of local plants in cocktails and mocktails. Bryon White gave us insight into the burgeoning Yaupon Tea industry. And, Jackie Vitale led a hands-on demonstration on fermented drinks and their benefits. Learning about the smallest of our residents — native bees — gave a glimpse into the intricate relationship between plants and their most important pollinators. We partnered with the Sanibel-Captiva Art League on two local art shows within the

historic Bailey House, focusing on the themes of “Island” and “Native.” A series of art-meets-science workshops invited participants to explore drawing and painting in nature. Sanibel School students enjoyed a “gallery opening” at our pavilion for the photography they created under the guidance of Sallie Rich, the recipient of the 5th Annual SCCF J.N. “Ding” Darling Brush of Excellence Environmental Art Award. Weekly botanical walks, led by a group of volunteers called Weeds & Seeds, allowed participants to immerse in our botanical wonders. For the coastal lovers, weekly beach walks explored our shorelines.

concern. SCCF has supported the formal petition to make bycatch reduction devices (BRDs)

Productive Year for Restoration The Wildlife & Habitat Management Program made sizable gains with restoration thanks to last year's addition of a larger John Deere tractor and a skidsteer. Staff were able to remove ten acres of buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus) from previously open wetlands. They also thinned or removed several small monocultures of cabbage palms (Sabal palmetto) where open canopy landscapes once occurred. Due to weather conditions and COVID-19, no controlled burns were conducted. But, several spartina marshes were mechanically treated and mowed to reduce the fuel loads. Annual chemical treatments of exotic plants on conservation lands approached 550 acres, including retreatments.

Rescuing Trafficked Turtles Terrestrial turtles took the spotlight as the largest turtle trafficking bust in Florida occurred. SCCF Herpetologist Chris Lechowicz helped identify, process, and assess the health and fate of over 600 turtles confiscated from a poaching ring. Most of these turtles came from the Fort Myers area, including Sanibel. Chris led the relocation of 275 Florida box turtles (Terrapene carolinabauri) onto conservation lands. They were marked and many are being tracked to assess their relocation.

Diamondback Terrapin Monitoring and research for our Diamondback Terrapin Project (Malaclemys terrapin) had a delayed start due to COVID-19, but with safety protocols, we started in May. Sanibel populations appear to be recovering after the large red tide event of 2018. The 2020 sampling efforts have shown terrapins using these sites again and some recruitment occurring after a void in 2019. Early assessments have shown higher-than-average boat strike scars in the last year in recaptures.

mandatory on all crab traps to prevent substantial terrapin losses due to drowning.

Wildlife Cameras Capture Diversity

Tracking a Chicken Turtle We began 2020 with the rare sighting of a nesting Florida chicken turtle (Deirochelys reticularia chrysea) that we are tracking with radio telemetry. This unusual freshwater turtle lives in ephemeral wetlands and spends most time underground. Our nesting provided the first data ever on south Florida barrier islands.

Wildlife cameras placed in preserves documented a high diversity of mammals in the Johnston Tract and Frannie’s Preserve. The two largest mammalian predators on Sanibel, coyotes (Canis latrans), and bobcats (Lynx rufus), regularly visited the same burrows, which are also used by gopher tortoises (Gopherus polyphemus), ninebanded armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus), Virginia opossums (Didelphis virginiana), marsh rabbits (Sylvilagus palustris), and cotton rats (Sygmodon hispidus).

Eastern Indigo Snake Update Eastern indigo snake (Drymarchon couperi) sightings were their lowest since our Pine Island Sound Eastern Indigo Snake Project started in 2012, with just one recapture and one new snake. Reduced encounters were also reported by other researchers in Florida.

WGCU (NPR) came out to do a piece on the SCCF Box Turtle Project.

Special Projects Manager Justin Proctor, a part-time Special Projects Manager, was brought in to manage SCCF’s Trail Reinterpretation Project at the Erick Lindblad Preserve. With over four miles of walking trails on the 212-acre preserve, Justin was tasked with reinventing the educational aspects, including signage and interpretive areas, as well as improving the flow of the trails. He also assembled an extensive and interactive Story Map of all the facilities and trails at sccf.org.

Donor Recognition Please take a moment to review the names of all the donors who supported our work in so many ways during FY2019-2020. For the first time, the donors recognized on these pages made gifts to SCCF as well as to the Sanibel Sea School, which became part of the SCCF family on January 1, 2020. These generous gifts made all the difference for maintaining cash flow, assuring that budgeted expenses could be covered, and demonstrating matching funds for public sector grant proposals.

“As the oldest locally owned and managed community bank in Lee County and on the islands, Bank of the Islands/Edison National Bank cares deeply about the natural beauty we all value in Southwest Florida. Now more than ever, it is a great comfort to know SCCF stands strong in its environmental stewardship for the place we call home. For more than five decades, SCCF has been a leader in fighting to keep Sanibel, Captiva and this entire region so special. We are honored to be one of their partners in making that happen.”
