Temples of Abu Simbel

Comprising the World Heritage-listed Great Temple of Ramses II and the smaller one to his wife Nefertari, the temples of Abu Simbel are among the most famous and spectacular in Egypt. In 1968, under threat from the rising waters due to the construction of the Aswan Dam, the temples were moved stone by stone to a higher location in one of history’s greatest feats of archaeological engineering.
