Looking at The Dairy, you would be forgiven for thinking that you had stepped back in time. There is a raw beauty to the building. In summer, the shaded outdoor sitting area and the breezes offer a reprieve from our sunburnt land; in winter the buildings are shrouded in mist until a soft breeze and the early morning sun pokes through enough to send it on its way. There is a rich sense of heritage and like the homestead, Samantha and Kalvin have kept The Dairy as it was, where they could.

With the buildings restored, the purpose of the space has been given a different future to that of its past. The Dairy with its stunning bush setting as a backdrop is quintessential Australian. We cannot think of too many places that would be better than this bespoke location for photographic and video campaigns, location and product shoots and brand and corporate events. Where once brands needed to travel to the likes of New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania, there are now more options in Queensland, like The Dairy, to create sublime imagery.

Like a page of a well-loved book, they have earmarked The Dairy as a future Airbnb. This short-term accommodation requires approval by Logan City Council, which is a lengthy process, but it will be worth the wait. With alfresco living and spectacular Australian vistas at the heart of the dairy, it was made for reconnecting and enjoying the company of others.

The Dairy consists of a large, elevated bedroom, boasting a queen bed and two single beds. Each bed has its own mosquito net, offering practicality given the open nature of the room, but also a wonderful feeling of romanticism.

The original tin roof has remained, holes born from time and rain have been sealed with silicone, weather proofing the space but allowing spots of light to pass through, creating a beautiful disco ball effect during the day and the sense of being directly under the stars at night, that for the time being a lucky few can experience.

Whilst The Dairy is as off-grid as possible – no tv – there’s a port for charging one’s phone and camera gear, a refrigerator large enough to store food (and wine), cooking can be done on the Family Webber Q and a double gas bench top stove. This space was made for relaxing, for reconnecting. For surrendering to the sounds of nature. Create and capture great content until your heart is beyond full – this is The Dairy at Long Farm.
