OUR SPACE PSYCHOLOGY
With Louisa Honan And Fergus Trevethan
The phrase, ‘it takes a village to raise a family’ is as much of an acknowledgement as it is a statement. Within our modern communities, families can often struggle to find the support they need, which puts the requirement for professional support services such as counselling and psychology in high demand. Lengthy wait times prompted a local couple to open their own space, aptly named ‘Our Space Psychology’. With more and more families searching for the right psychologist or counsellor to work with, it was an obvious direction for Tamborine Mountain residents Fergus Trevethan and Louisa Honan.
Fergus and Louisa, along with their two therapy dogs Honey and Alby, have formed a unique practice that specialises in child and adult psychology and family counselling. ‘Our Space Psychology’ is a safe and caring environment for families catering across the entire lifespan (children to elderly), offering one on one sessions and family therapy.
“We offer a range of specialist assessments, which include autism spectrum disorder, behavioural, cognitive, education, functional and NDIS assessments,” says Louisa.
“Counselling can help people address their problems in a positive way, identifying their issues, exploring options, developing strategies and increasing selfawareness. Therapy and diagnostic testing can be an extremely helpful way of improving communication and enriching relationships”.
The psychology clinic, which resembles more of a family home than an office, provides numerous hangout areas; from the play area for children, with books and colouring in station, to the lounge room with bean bags, and tea and coffee facilities as well as an outdoor sitting area, there is a space to suit everyone. "Our therapy dogs add to the feeling of comfort and enhance the therapeutic process."
“We want people to feel as relaxed and as comfortable as possible, we want people to find their place at Our Space,” says Fergus. “At the end of the day, we want the best outcome for anyone who walks through our door, so they can live a happy and fulfilled life. We’re interested in tangible outcomes for our clients that have real life impact, whether that’s putting strategies, getting them back to work, building a child’s confidence at school, or gaining a formal diagnosis as child or adult. We are ultimately here to listen and help.”
