OUR COMMITMENT TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Scenic’s Cherish the Planet ethos is more than sustainability… it’s a commitment to creating positive change, to sustainable practices and rich community partnerships. We aim to leave as small a footprint as possible.

We are committed to environmentally responsible tourism and protecting the places we visit. Our sustainability ethos, Cherish the Planet, was launched in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Scenic vessels now use the lowest sulphur grade fuel where possible. We have created exceptional carbon-friendly experiences in incredible destinations. Scenic is proud of the positive associations we have formed with the communities we visit. The provision of clean running water to the Chiro village in Kampong Cham Province Cambodia, the construction of sanitation blocks in Yandabo village along the Irrawaddy River; and the continued support of the Bread of Life Project aimed at reducing prejudice against Roma communities in Belgrade.

CHERISH THE PLANET

Scenic’s sustainability ethos has six key focus areas. 1. Leave no waste print

We have been working to eliminate single use plastics, including drink bottles and plastic straws, and introducing plastic-free bathroom amenities for guests. We are constantly looking at new ways to lower our waste print. 2. Rebalancing of CO2 emissions

We have concentrated our efforts on minimising our impact, and support causes aligned with rebalancing our CO2 emissions, including exceptional carbon-friendly experiences, with hiking and e-biking through Europe’s most idyllic regions now available on most itineraries. 3. Sourcing sustainably

As we meander through Europe, many of our exquisite dishes on board feature local produce. Wine from small vineyards along the Moselle, Rhine and Douro rivers. Local artisan cheese in Bordeaux, and fresh produce from farmer’s markets. Our goal is to source sustainably every step of the way. From produce to packaging, recycling, and our choice of suppliers. 4. Growing with communities

We are proud of the positive associations we have built within communities around the world. Our European itineraries include Certified Cherish the Planet experiences that ensure local businesses benefit from our journeys. In rural Holland, experience the familyowned Veldzicht Cheese Farm, and on a Seine 5-star river cruise you’ll meet with a local Calvados producer during a brandy tasting afternoon. 5. At Scenic, we have created an engaging workplace that supports the wellbeing of our staff, prioritising health and safety. We also want every member of staff to be fully immersed in the ethos at the heart of Cherish the Planet. To ensure this, Scenic staff will complete extensive training, that supports their wellbeing, and will ensure health and safety is prioritised.
