Scenic Eclipse Expert Discovery Team

The Scenic Eclipse Discovery Team is at the core of our Expedition and Discovery Voyages. We have the top experts in their field, from historians and geologists, to archaeologists and photographers.

The Discovery Team will provide enduring insights and safely guide you every step of the way. They will ensure you get the most out of the places you visit. From on board lectures in the state-of-art theater, to guided kayak excursions and nature walks, to coasting on Zodiacs in front of enormous glaciers, the Discovery Team will share with you their passion for, and knowledge of, the magnificent Antarctic and South America regions.

Meet some of our Antarctica & South American Discovery Team experts:

Jonathan Fuhrmann

Geology, Glaciology, Lecturer, Assistant Discovery Leader

Jonathan’s love of the Polar regions and great mountain ranges of Earth has proven enduring. He has worked on expedition cruise ships on all seven continents since 2015 and enjoys speaking on subjects ranging from glaciology and geology to astronomy, volcanology and photography. Antarctica is a charismatic wildlife framed by a unique backdrop of mountains and glaciers. As a dedicated member of the Discovery Team, helping our guests immerse in the stories this beautiful wild landscape tells us about our planet’s past and present is why Jonathan enjoys returning to the Antarctic.

Dr. Terence Christian

Historian, Archaeologist, Discovery Leader

Terence is a conflict archaeologist and military historian. Bitten by the travel bug from an early age, he has traveled extensively, exploring a majority of the world’s continents and oceans as an expedition leader, expedition guide and Zodiac driver. Terence maintains active certifications in the expedition guiding and maritime industries including Certified Polar Guide status. According to Terence the Polar regions are some of his favorite places to guide guests. When you journey to the Poles, you journey where few have ventured before, where the climate provides unmatched artefact and preservation. Each day feels like a step back in time.

Scott McCormak

Kayak & Paddleboard Guide

Scott runs his own company Cape LaHave Adventures and has over 20 years of experience guiding paddling expeditions in Antarctica and South America as well as the Norwegian Arctic and Canada. As a certified canoe, paddle-board and sea kayak instructor with Paddle Canada, he is an expert in this field. Scott brings a wealth of experience to ensure a safe, enjoyable and insightful environment for all guests and skill levels. Having guided more than 60 expeditions in Antarctica over eight seasons, Scott is excited to share his love and passion for discovery as a kayak and paddleboard guide with Scenic Eclipse guests.

Alice Forrest

Marine Biology, Lecturer, Assistant Discovery Leader

Alice’s passion is the natural world and creatures who inhabit it. She has degrees in Conservation Biology, Marine and Antarctic Science and as a researcher she felt the best way to utilise this scientific knowledge is to share it. Alice has worked extensively in marine tourism, connecting people to the wonder and value of the ocean. Alice’s favorite experience is watching guests fall in love with nature as they snorkel with tiger sharks, kayak with dolphins, see eye-to-eye with humpback whales, or be breathed on by a minke whale in a Zodiac in Antarctica.
