Uglich Founded in the 10th century, Uglich’s magnificent positioning along the Volga River only serves to enhance the city’s myriad of beautiful historic monuments. On the river’s high bank, Uglich Kremlin is a fascinating ensemble of buildings, most recognizable by the five-domed Transfiguration Cathedral. Visit the Princely Chamber and the Church of St. Dmitry on the Blood, boasting spectacular frescoes designed in memory of Ivan the Terrible’s son, as well as the Slavy Alley monument to the ‘Defenders of the Fatherland’, the Epiphany Monastery and the Alexey Monastery.

Kirillov The town of Kirillov is alive with history and heritage, home to one of the oldest and most famous monasteries in Russia. Founded in 1397 by St. Cyril, the impressive Kirillo-Belozersk Monastery is located on the shores of Lake Siverskoye and Lake Dolgoye and is a fine example of a well-preserved northern Russian fortified monastery, sure to have a profound effect on the senses as you learn all about its captivating history.

Yaroslavl With its UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic center, Yaroslavl is a delight to explore. Founded by Peter the Great, the city was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than 200 years. Nicknamed the ‘Venice of the North’, the historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site, threaded with canals and dotted with Baroque bridges. Day 2 St. Petersburg Today you will visit the Hermitage Museum, one of the largest and oldest museums in the world. Formerly the Winter Palace and home of the Tsars, the museum’s collection comprises of almost three million exhibits, including the largest collection of paintings in the world and early collections dating back to Catherine II. Following lunch in the city, your guided coach tour will take you along the Spit of the Basil Island. Pass by the Senate and St. Isaac’s cathedral, and drive along Nevsky Prospect, the main boulevard of St. Petersburg. Day 4 Mandrogi Your next stop is the picturesque village of Mandrogi, located on the River Svir. The charming landscape is dotted with colorful ‘izbas’ – wooden houses with finely carved roofs and window frames. The village also offers many opportunities for you to admire Russian handicrafts, such as pottery and the famous ‘matryoshka’ dolls. You will also have free time to enjoy some of Mandrogi’s other attractions, like the Vodka Museum, which contains thousands of different varieties of one of Russia’s most famous exports. Day 5 Kizhi Today you will cruise Lake Onega before arriving at the small island of Kizhi. Enjoy an insightful walking tour through the Open-Air Museum of Architecture, home to a collection of restored 18th century Russian wooden buildings, including the breathtaking Church of the Transfiguration. Built in 1714, the structure of the church was built without using a single nail and is a fine example of expert carpenters pushing their craft to the limit. In the nearby town of Kirillov, a short drive from Goritsy, discover the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. Legend has it, Saint Cyril of Beloozero, one of the most honoured saints in the Russian Orthodox Church, founded the monastery in 1397 in his search for a remote place to be closer to God. Welcome to Moscow, Russia’s capital city situated on the banks of the Moskva River. The city’s architecture is a reflection of its 860-year-old history with many reminders of both its Imperial and Soviet past. A sprawling metropolis, Moscow is the financial and political center of Russia with a population of around 13 million.

Immerse yourself in Moscow’s rich history on a visit to the Kremlin grounds. The former seat of the Russian government and a unique historical, architectural and artistic reserve, for many people the Kremlin is the symbol of Moscow and indeed Russia. Visit the Armory Chamber before enjoying a stroll, during which you will see Cathedral Square which still retains its original form, as well as the Palace of Congresses, Senate Square, including the Arsenal and Senate buildings, and the residence of the President of the Russian Federation. Later, enjoy some free time to continue exploring Moscow, or visit the Museum of Cosmonautics.

After breakfast, it is time to say farewell to your fellow guests and disembark the ship for your transfer to the airport.

During today’s guided coach tour, you will drive along Leningradskaya Street and Tverskaya Street, with the opportunity to see many of Moscow’s highlights, including the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Novodevichy Convent, before enjoying some free time to explore Red Square.

Stop off for a visit to the iconic GUM department store, before enjoying some free time exploring Red Square. After lunch in the city, you will head to the Kremlin grounds. Throughout its 1000year history, the town has been used by various Monarchs, including Ivan the Terrible, as a base for attacks on the Tatars and Poles. On your walking tour, you will get to see the renowned green-domed Transfiguration Cathedral, as well as the Church of St. Dmitry on the Blood, which was built on the site where Dmitry, the youngest son of Ivan the Terrible, was murdered.
